AIUI LIDO only generate a chart when a airline customer requests one which results in airports with Jeppesen charts but not LIDO. Now I may be wrong about this, but if anyone can find LIDO charts for KMRJ for example I'd very interested to see them (in this case the FAA and Jeppesen have approach charts for the 4x RNAV approaches plus Jeppesen has an airport layout chart) It’s not just airline customers who use LIDO charts. Lufthansa also supplies charts to general aviation biz jets and smaller GA. Our company (corporate flight department) subscribes to Jeppesen, (via Honeywell) but the annual subscription form also offers Lufthansa as an option. The ability to access charts directly in the simulator with no additional purchase is another step (and a big one) in offering a "full package" to flight simulation novices. That was a major point of failure for all previous simulators. Amen. I do hope though someone will find a way to enable access to the charts in the various systems, like for instance the G3000. I'd prefer to have the charts there instead of in an EFB. But then again: afaik nowadays EFB's are quite common, even if you have systems that can offer things like charts, so using an EFB is quite realistic. BTW The Navigraph charts often look like total (low resolution) word not allowed on my G3000 screens: quite often I can't even read them without having to zoom in, so in the end I might even prefer using the EFB...! Anyway, this news made me very happy. I surely won't mind ending my Navigraph subscription. The less addons we need, the better, and that certainly goes for subscriptions...!!! BTW I do wonder if the MSFS2024 EFB is some sort of realistic rendition of a real world device...? Edited November 6, 20241 yr by mistolip
November 6, 20241 yr Author Remembering Navigraph's CEO being....well...a little bit sharp to the aviaplanner guy during his presentation at FSExpo 24? Not only I wasn't amused at the style of the NG CEO, but I also thought: "I'd better be VERY cautious...if a two-guy-business is able to acquire some form of a LIDO sub, what if Mr. Neumann just asks LH systems...?" 'It is better to be silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.'

February 5, 20251 yr I use lido charts with aviaplaner and in general the coverage is very limited compared to Navigraph at small airports. If I am not wrong Jepssen provides charts and data for Garmin. I am one of those who refuse to pay 100 euros a year to Navigraph, but in MFS you have a problem and that is that most study level aircraft depends on Navigraph data, this is something that developers should see and give the option to use MFS data as most Xplane developers do.

This will not happen, because the MSFS navdata format is very incomplete. Many leg types cannot be modelled at all with it. So anyone wanting to do a study level aircraft needs to use Navigraph. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

February 5, 20251 yr With the free MSFS 2024 flight planner receiving frequent updates, the LIDO charts, and the fact that the Honeywell avionics now contain an in-avionics chart viewer, I can finally put an end to the monthly Navigraph money-suck out of my pocket. I still use simbrief, of course, but simbrief flight plans are easily transferred to the in-game EFB.

Of course it gets updated for free once a year in March with the AIRAC from the previous year, so the AIRAC will never be older than 2 years, but still, it could result in a few things not working correctly. And some addon planes only work with a Navigraph AIRAC. (Luckily I don't have planes like that.) Having said that: I also ended my Navigraph suscbription, also because the new AIRAC in MSFS2024 seems to be identical to the Navigraph one. (The LIDO charts however are a bit limited... but I never use charts anymore, really.) I did quite a few tests with >2 year old AIRACs in SB and I only got some problem once in MSFS2024 (and BATC) but nothing that couldn't be solved easily. So yeah, bye bye Navigraph!

It will use the navdata you can install in the community folder though just like any other aircraft using the default data Edited February 5, 20251 yr by Tuskin38

Also you are mixing up the base navdata (which is *always* MSFS format, even if Navigraph is installed -> they just put their own data into the MSFS format then) and the custom Navigraph data which you install separately for study level addons like the PMDG and Fenix. Only the custom format can do certain stuff that is required for a study level aircraft. For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

No, they are simply not interested in doing more than needed for their target sales (let alone a study level simulation) and therefore have no need for an appropriate navdata. PMDG is study level, but I don't really feel like discussing this with you leads to anywhere, so I'll just leave it at that.
