Derogatory? So gamers and newbies are "bad" people, that's what you mean?

Because i've been there (not in the sim, in IVAO with actual people - I made my "career" there with actual exams online, etc), thus my lack of interest now because i was a newbie back then and i have well over 25k hours in sims today.

Either you got the wrong message or cannot accept an opinion.

I will accept the fact that I'm the bad guy because of my opinion but its OK, i'm tough not like some others around here.

Although I personally have little interest in avatar creation or career mode, as a pilot and lifelong AOPA member, I wholeheartedly support anything that inspires new or younger generations to embrace

  • Some people loved the elitist, insular, basically dead flight simulation community that existed before MSFS. It gave them a way to feel "special" I suppose, superior to all these "normal" gamers.

  • You definitely haven't been following what the career mode is all about. @Bobsk8 It's funny that you liked that post when you use A Pilot's Life V2 lol.

Hardly the bad guy, some people have strong opinions (heh, me) and sometimes i also exceed myself with some opinions. It's all cool :)

Point taken but in reality most of my post are done with a "grain of salt" and not to be taken seriously. I'm just having fun here. People can enjoy the sim/game as they want and I am good with it. Seems to be to much stress here for some reason though.

No, and I have no idea where you got 'bad' from.  His use of the terms was used in a derogatory way towards a feature in MSFS 2024.

My wife and I own a Labrador dog who we love. That fact doesn't stop me using 'dog' in a derogatory way.

I was London Chief for the London area on SATUK, the predecessor to VATSIM. Myself and others created many of those ATC courses in the early days.  I'm sure you would defend those exams if somebody described them only for newbies/gamers, just as I defend a career mode in 2024 described only for newbies/gamers.

Man, the mods must be on vacation to let this BS go on for multiple pages.  -eyeroll-

Can we get back to talking about career mode without it devolving into snobbish gatekeeping idiocy? If you don't like career mode, fine. Don't suggest that those who are interested must be "gamers" or "newbies" or jobless. Did I take a wrong turn and end up on Reddit?

I have likes and dislikes about the career system. I made a post about it after the Tech alpha:

Lots of unknowns that will be answered when I try this again tomorrow.

Stuff like this will never be 100% true to life. The PPL and certifications part I mean. The actual flights I was able to take were just like any other I could have done with out the career addon but this added a bit more immersion for me. Might not be for everyone but at least you can skip it if you don't.

Why would i defend them? It's the same and i was a newbie back then.

Something did definitely got lost in translation here.

As I said above, I do plan to use it, but just because I like the concept and look fwd for one of this days having something with a "lot" of AI powering the interactions, in all sorts of ways, in flight simulation.

It's actually here already, with some ATC products, but I believe it'll grow exponentially in the next few years, in quantity and quality.

One day, probably while I am still able to seat at the desktop and use a PC and a flight simulator, we will be hapily interacting with AI agents since we enter the airfield and walk to the operations / tower / ... for our flight planning / declaration / briefings, meet there with the rest of the crew, specially if it's a commercial / airliner flight, and keep interacting with the ground personnel, maybe even with passengers if we walk along the cabin during a long flight, or they're allowed into the cockpit, with the cabin crew, etc...

I would love being able to play that way, as much as I am reluctant regarding the "future" we face in the light of the "AI domination".

Having started my career as an AI research student working in my PhD many moons ago, far from even dreaming I would "end my days" working at a metoffice, very close to aviation, and yet far enough to feel that sensation of unfulfillment and lack of will and perseverance to try to follow an airline pilot career, whenever I see just in front of my office an airliner taking off or arriving, I will surely entail in such career modes with AI if they become available while I can still play these flight simulation games 🙂

Just as although still being active flying gliders IRL, even if just to keep the minima to be able to have my EASA SPL license valid, I keep playing speed and ATT tasks online in Condorsoaring, now v3, and actually learning and keeping proficient through it !

Playing a game can be good for your brain ( ** I'm a Poet !!! ** ) !!! Don't be afraid of calling it GAME because that's what it is, even though we can make use of it that actually helps developing skills for our real lives, activities, jobs...

Later today I'll try to push MSFS 2024 🙂
