Scenery Data Dreadfully Out of Date

Featured Replies

I thought they had gotten much newer and up to date aerial imagery for FS2024.  Checking out NYC i noticed that an entire outlet mall that started construction 10 years ago and was complete at least 5 years ago is still the parking lot that was there before they ever broke ground.  It's a pretty big mall, visible from NY harbor.  My own home in NYC is also at least 10 years out of date.  This is likely the same imagery from FS2020, at least in the NYC area.  Anyone out there notice newer better PG areas?

Did a quick tour of Montreal Last night and it was pretty good.

Did not pay to close attention, but it is no older the 5 years and probably less then that.

New Haven, CT is at least 5 years out of date, possibly more. It shows a lot of I-95 construction that was completed I don't know how many years ago, including the old Quinnipiac River bridge that has been gone forever...

One day the scenery data could be streamed live from dedicated bing satellites and ground cameras directly into your sim.

It won't, I hope, because that would mean the sim is just a huge global surveillance network.

It's so blurry even with decent internet.

Philadelphia is still eleven years out of date. The Comcast Technology Center, a 1,120ft tall skyscraper that started construction in 2013, and complete in 2018 still doesn't exist at all in the sim.  It's literally the symbol of the city and nope.. Adobo can't be bothered

This one point about Scenery Map is Most Disappointing aspect of this release.  I thought Asobo/Msfs heads had said that this sim would boast updated maps and the experience would be like no other... one flight proved to me (YTMD) that these talking heads are stuck in 2015ish. Me..... I mean I would have paid over 200 dollars to have the latest in map details.   Wallet.... you did!!!!!!     On a side note,  the map in preflight is updated to todays standards, How can i get access to that one,  the one i prefiled with?

My house is finally in this one. It wasn't built in 2020.

real shame, lots of hype on the scenery but same old stuff.   Really shocking that NYC is so out of date, I would have hoped to see some of the hype photogrammetry or even lidar stuff.

I will say that I noticed my mothers house, which was built in the last 2 years, has an AI building placement in the new sim.  It's a whole new community so based on which houses are actually constructed she could tell me how old the aerial imagery is for that area.  So they DID put new satellite images in the sim.

It does seem like the PG hasn't been touched though and it does look dreadful in many places.  NY looks dull flat and lifeless.  The samscene3d NY times looks pretty great in 2024 and gets the city pretty up to date.

In fairness to Asobo, if you go to Bing maps and explore NY in 3d..... it's exactly what you see in MSFS 2024.  So depending on which way the data flows either Bing hasn't gotten around to updating their PG data so Asobo can't get anything newer or Asobo hasn't finished working on updated PG data for the existing areas and therefore Bing can't get updated either.

More likely, they are prioritizing getting PG for new areas so existing stuff will have to wait, regardless of how old it is.  I highly doubt they will let major metro areas like NYC get 15+ years out of date so I'd expect a refresh before the next version of the sim.  Probably as a WU.
