2024 Reviews (without owning it yet)

Featured Replies

I understand the disappointment of some... seriously! Not being able to fly on day 1.

Some folks don't like the UI. There are streaming issues.

But I've also seen so much from folks on Twitch and YouTube that looks **amazing**

I watched someone take a bush plane into Alaska, land in a meadow, then walk and stand next to the river during sunset. Holy word not allowed that was awesome!

Im hearing wide reviews that the flight model feels more alive, taxiing feels more realistic, the clouds and lighting look legit (with exceptions of course)

I felt like another fresh thread was warranted for folks who haven't bought it and are waiting for reviews we can compilate, good and bad.

The rest of the board is getting murky with people who have 5000k or more hours in the sim looking at small stuff... maybe more big picture?

Thanks!

If the bigger picture is whole of Netherlands blurred when you fly over with bandwidth/atc live error and half cockpit blurred out....

Yes then it is an issue big time.

Bridges are "still cardboard cutouts and you can't fly under them" ... had to laugh at that one ... Jay's gonna loose millions of subscribers, ok maybe hundreds of thousand, ok maybe thousands of subscribers, ok maybe a few hundred, ok maybe 10.

Maybe this was a mistake...

"Never buy this!!!! Lol"

This doesn't bother one bit as I said in multiple threads before release I would not be switching from 2020 anytime soon. Good decision on my part. But you guys enjoy MSFS 2024 with all the issues so far. I want no part of that problem with the little I have time to fly right now.

I cant unsee what I have seen, so no going back to 2020 for me. I will be in for the ride with bugs and all. A VR flight in grand canyon and some bush flying in Alaska convinced me:p. The future looks bright once all the bugs get sorted:)

Ha ha, desperate. you purchased the same game again.

Its the iPhone generation when few minor tweeks aren't the thing, the thing is people being able to say they have the latest thing....that is so so sad. And that isn't traditionally how 'simmers' are, they like to fiddle to mod etc they will play driving sims 10 20 years old, they become ingrained in the scene. This is just a bunch of children who want the latest thing till someone tells them the next latest thing... its really sad to see.... MSFS will be a mobile game in 6 months and we'll see why the UI looks like it does...

I grew up with commodore 64 so dunno if i qualify for the “iphone generation”, but whatever…

For me the ground handling alone was worth the upgrade. And for a bush flyer this new sim cant be beaten by anything…

I follow Jay's you tube channel and i think he should stick on Hardware reviews and benchmarks. His review for MSFS 2024 sounds more a promotion to X-Plane which is out of topic and unfair

Anyway when this storm is going to calm i am sure 100% everyone will enjoy this new masterpiece. There are already some great videos on you tube which shows the new era of MSFS2024.

V1 simulations pilot made a flight with the default A330, and his review was ultra positive.

Indeed the A330 is a masterpiece like A321 as well. I love them already.

However, TCAS does not show any aircraft with A321LR I tested all modes BLW/THRT/NORM. Nothing??🤔

He is right though. The whole launch was abysmal, and on top of that there are so many bugs... the first 2 aircraft I tried had no working electrics so I couldn't start the engines. One of them had no sounds as well.

Once most of the bugs are solved this is going to be a great sim. The damage is done though, many new users will be put off by the negative comments. It isn't very good for the reputation of Microsoft and Asobo which will mean some beancounter may decide it's not worth it.

Some of it seems to be Geo related as people have been telling me to use a VPN.

Other than the better moving mini-map, flight planning, some improvements to trees, better scenery on the ground...

I am not seeing all these improvements people are talking about. They barely touched the orthoimagery, it looks basically the same or worse, they just added color filters for different months which does nothing for me. I mean it might be ok looking in certain areas, but so far all I have seen is a slight downgrade in overall graphics fidelity.

The clouds aren't any sharper looking, slightly different, but this is basically FS 2020 with a different UI and enhanced ground imagery when you are 20 feet above the ground.

Jay does have a point, 4 years and for most people they’ll not see a difference between 2020 and 2024.

Even if the early teething issues are resolved, we’re still left with the same:

1.  Solid wall of Bridges

2.  Melted buildings

3.  Waiting for scenery to load

4.  Docks and objects under water

5.  Short LOD radius

6.  Ships moving over land and road traffic floating

7.  Trees in objects/building

Sure, one can get just the right angle at a detailed location wait for the scenery to load and then take a screenshot and it can look good.  But if actually flying and it’s same issues as are in MSFS 2020.

So either the development team is VERY small (sorry just don’t see 4 years of development here) due to budgets which are based on sales revenue and marketplace revenue … implication is sales and marketplace revenue is not that great or else we’d see a LOT more improvement than what MSFS 2024 presents.

Jorg’s marketing spin is they “under estimated the demand” … sorry but that is complete BS.  They have all the sales/usage data over 4 years, they have the experience of 2020 release, they know exactly what the demand will be … the reality is they elected to NOT provide sufficient server bandwidth/support because they didn’t have the budget to spend on it and knew that it would eventually “resolve” over time as people moved on or away from their MSFS 2024 purchase.

The Steam reviews have MSFS 2024 at “mostly negative”.  This is NOT good news for 3rd party devs and why some of us have elected to be “on hold” and wait and see.  It’s disappointing but I entirely expected this from the pre-release dev alpha builds I worked with.
