Tobii eye tracker

Featured Replies

In current version Tobii cause a CTD, when you try to adjust sensitivity. For anyone who is interested, there is a workaround on official forum. Works great for me.

Thanks for posting that. It works well except I'm behind the seat. Cannot work out how to set eye tracking reset and toggle. If you could help me with that I would be grateful.

Thanks

I'm using open track with the Tobii. Works great. In fact, better than the in game UI.

Even when the fix comes out, I'll be sticking with open track.

It's infinitely more adjustable.

There's a very good YouTube video on how to set it up.

There are two commands in control options : "EYE TRACKING RESET", which reset your view and "TOGGLE HEAD TRACKING", for switch on or off.

Thanks very much

:cool:

I find that using the OpenTrack software allows me to properly set it up, something I didn't have or used in 2020 and actually like it.

I'm on the fence about moving from TrackIR to Tobii. I've read that there's no way to freeze the Tobii in position to click on buttons without it reverting back to the default view in MSFS. Does OpenTrack or anything else solve that?

You just toggle off tracking, done. Do it, you'll never look back. I used TIR for 11 years and within a week or less didn't miss it.

Also, when using opentrack, the view will lock at what your looking at when use pause it. The tobii app reverts to the forward view when you pause. Very handy.

To get both head and eye tracking working, I just setup my Tobii 5 to work with 2024 using native support

This YT video by Jonathan Beckett got me started: Configuring the Tobii Eye Tracker for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

There are a couple of things not covered in the video. First, if you use Steam, the config files for Tobii are located here:

       C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\2518512\2537590\remote

The names start with 'inputprofile_' then a number.

Second, the axes in the config file are in the same order as the axes listed in 2020's Tobii sensitivity settings:

AxisName=”0”        Eye vs Head Tracking Ratio
AxisName=”1”        Eye Tracking Responsiveness
AxisName=”2”        Head Tracking Sensitivity: Pitch/Yaw
AxisName=”3”        Centre Stabilisation
AxisName=”4”        Head Tracking Sensitivity: Roll
AxisName=”5”        Head Tracking Sensitivity: Position
AxisName=”6”        Head Tracking Auto-Centre

These are the settings that worked best for me:

<Axis AxisName="0" AxisSensitivy="85" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>
<Axis AxisName="1" AxisSensitivy="40" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>
<Axis AxisName="2" AxisSensitivy="150" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>
<Axis AxisName="3" AxisSensitivy="20" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>
<Axis AxisName="4" AxisSensitivy="100" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>
<Axis AxisName="5" AxisSensitivy="75" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>
<Axis AxisName="6" AxisSensitivy="0" AxisSensitivyMinus="0" AxisNeutral="0" AxisDeadZone="0"/>

When experimenting, you don't need to quit the sim. While in the sim, change the settings in the config file and save it. Then change the profile in Tobii 'General controls' to the default profile and save, then change the profile back to your one, save, and the sim will use the new settings.

Remember you have to bind the 'TOGGLE HEAD TRACKING' and 'EYE TRACKING RESET' functions in MSFS. I used the same buttons as OpenTrack.

Finally, make sure you prevent MSFS from finding OpenTrack by renaming the 'NPClient64.dll' file in the 'C:\Program Files (x86)\opentrack\modules' folder. To make this easier, I created a couple of batch files to enable/disable OpenTrack.

@flyingscampi   An excellent guide.  Thanks!

Those settings work good for me with the eye tracking totally turned off, as I don't like it.  Just the head tracking is fine for me.

Unfortunately, Steam version keeps reverting to the OLD version of the Tobbi file and I'm right back where I started. It's about time to shelve this thing until the idiots can get Tobii working as it does in 2020. Not sure where their head is, butt, I have a pretty good idea. 🙄

If you don't need eye tracking, OpenTrack works fine. You only need Tobii Experience with OpenTrack, don't bother with Game Hub.

Yes but OT takes over everything and is definitely more FPS hungry than TE is. I keep my eye tracking very low in MSFS2020 and it's perfect. These guys should have taken their coding from it, not sure what they were thinking about.
