First Ever CTD in 2020

Featured Replies

I know some of you may find it difficult to believe, but I have never had a CTD in 2020 in the four years of flying....until today! Having read other guys posting similar experiences in 2020 over the past few weeks, I thought I'd share my experience. No new addons, no 2024 installed, soooo....?

  • If anyone remembers, when the servers went bonkers after 2024 was released, many got CTDs. When the servers were fixed, that went away. Don't believe that your PC suddenly went bad and then fixed itse

  • Mine went to word not allowed after that micro update  we had for msfs 2020. A few days ago.

I am with Bob on this one with respect to graphics drivers. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Nope, I believe it as I had my first one the other night as well.  First ever.

They closed the thread as resolved in the official forums but it appears some people were saying they were still having the issue when they locked it.  It was a server issue causing the CTD.

What were you doing when it happened and did you get an offline message?

No Paul, the only thing I had done, was to leave the seat, returned two minutes later, put on my headphones and then it all froze, ah yes, and the sound went to loudspeakers. When I went to the task bar and selected sound properties, to select my headphones, they weren't showing. Then 2020 just disappeared. ATC continued to play, as I'd expect, but sure, as for 2020, it just crashed!

I had one, too. Flying my first A380 flight from EGLL to KBOS and just 65 miles from KBOS, after some 7 hours - CTD. Screen froze, sound stopped and after some seconds I was staring at my desktop. I have a nice piture there, mind you, but still I'd prefer to finish that flight! 🙂 Otherwise my 2020 is rock steady.

The computer burped. It happens.

I am very disapointed either. I allready assumed that MS will little by little throttle down the download speed for MSFS2020 to save money or switch performance over to their new sim or force users to buy the new (Still-Beta)-Simulator - but I did honestly not believe that they do it so rapidly.

They allways said that the life-cycle of 2020 is not yet finished by the 2024 release.

To lie has unfortunately become fashion in postmodern life culture.

Yes. When 2020 has problems it's 2024's fault. When X-Plane has problems that's also 2024's fault. Prepar3D having issues? 2024. Dang 2024 is just the scapegoat for all the world's problems these days!

Hmm, unsure why 2024 would have any effect, as I don't have 2024 installed. Also, I fail to see why a reduction in speed from their servers would create a CTD. I'm happy to be enlightened though. Having said all that, it does all seem very suspect

Well I just had my god word not allowed first ctd snd then pc shut down.

offensive initials not allowed???

Never had this prior to that micro update.

Mike

There is in no way, shape or form that an update would cause your PC to shut down. That is a problem with your PC being unstable in some form or another.

Me too, never had a CTD before with MSFS2020 and just got one after about 15 minutes into a flight. Nothing changed or updated on my PC since the last time I used it about 5 days ago.

Sorry

That is bs ,bc it was running fine prior and ran all night doing some other work on it.

But with msfs it shut down after 3hrs

Did some stress testing

All os fine with hardware.

No, that's simply not how it works. It just exposed an instability in your system. Stress testing is not something you do with a piece of software and then it's stable. Stress testing is a multi-faceted approach of a lot of high insensitivity applications and a lot of low impact programs, like games, that hit your hardware different due to not just hitting the highest end of the spectrum. Overclockers see this constantly, you can run Prime95, OCCT and Y-cruncher for days and it be stable but play a game for a few hours and suddenly the PC can crash and reboot because a lower range instability was exposed. It's a tale as old as time.
