2024 controls total confusion

Featured Replies

I'm trying to set up a UNIVERSAL control set for each of my controls: Stick, Pedals, Mouse, Keyboard and Bravo Quadrant. I do not need any variations as I want each controller to be exactly the same for any aircraft except for the Bravo which just needs slight changes between TwinJet, Props and glider. All the rest need precisely the same controls for views, zoom, panning etc. This is the best way as I don't have to keep remembering different schemes.

So I copy the default setups, and rename/save them then enter my preferred universal settings. I also click APPLY TO ALL AIRCRAFT. But that doesn't work. I know this because when I load an aircraft I haven't flown before all the controls revert to something else.

For example I loaded the CAP tail dragger for the first time and immediately all the views reset to defaults and when I push in the mixer lever, it pops out again. I then searched for mixture controls in keyboard, stick and mouse and they were completely different from those I set. So I cleared them all but still the mixture control pops out after I push it in, with NO controls assigned to mixture. This is totally confusing as I now cannot find the reason.

Does anyone please have any advice about what it going wrong? Thanks.

Maybe start with just something simple like a single view first (ie. turning the view right inside the cockpit).  Map that to an input that should be  the same for all aircraft. If the popup comes up asking you to save the profile, use the same name for the profile and check the "Apply to all aircraft" checkbox. For example, if it's a General profile, use the same name, "General profile bindings" and make sure you don't make any typing mistakes - if you make a typing mistake when saving the profile, you end up creating a new profile, which is not what you want.

Now test this for multiple aircraft, to see if you can turn the view right inside the cockpit, for the input you have bound. If it works, then next time, maybe bind 5 more inputs. And then test all 5 inputs on different aircraft. If that works, then you can bind 10 inputs the next time, etc.

If your profiles are really messed up, you may want to start from scratch and delete the previous profiles you setup.  I only use a Thrustmaster 16000m, but it was pretty fast for me to set it up so that I had the same camera views that I use in MSFS 2020. I made a thread on setting up the controls/inputs for MSFS 2024, you can read more about it here:

It's a bit of a mess but once you get accustomed to it ...

Your interpretation is correct, regarding "Apply to all..." and so on, but there are nuances because:

1) Profiles propagate only within the same class of aircraft (Airplane, Glider, Helicopter, Lighter than Air);

2) Tunning of the main control axis, such as curves and dead zones for the pitch, yaw and roll axis, are always inherited by all Profiles, meaning that as far as I could tell, there is no chance to create specific curves, dead zones or neutral points for specific aircraft, which, IMHO, is completely inconsistent with the otherwise complex but acceptable logic of this new controller definition "logic" (it's French, don't forget that..., it's like a croissant, tasty but twisted... 😜)

3) Default applies locally only to each tuple (aircraft, controller, profile);

After my initial bad experience with this new system I spent some time deleting all of the profiles I had created and then started from scratch (thinking to myself that I love XP12's solution best than anything else including DCS and IL2...).

I then created for the keyboard a "GENERIC FW Keyboard" (FW for Fixed wing) under the General tag, and stayed with the default FS 2024 Transversal profile for the Airplane controls tag, and hit Apply to all aircraft, and for each of my controllers, T16000, Saitek Rudder and Hotas module of Saitek X52 Pro, I followed pretty much the same principle, by creating a GENERIC FW T16, GENERIC FW T16 Controls, ...

Whenever I load a new aircraft sometimes for a given controller I have to chose the generic profile I had created and propagated to all aircraft because it's not shown by default BUT! I then mark the "Make Default" option, and from there on that profile remains selected every time I chose that aircraft.

Thanks both for those replies. The problem I am seeing is this. I use the second column down after saving and renaming default 2024 scheme. So let's say I name it:

"RY Basic Stick"

So I should now have a control set which I should be able to clear, then add controls to. I do that. So for example I now add Elevator Up and Elevator down then Trim Up then Trim Down, but it IMMEDIATELY creates ANOTHER category named "my new controller" or something similar. BUT I DON'T WANT IT TO DO THAT!!!! I want it to stay with what I named "RY Basic Stick"

I want it to save what I did to what I previously named ie: "RY Basic Stick"

So every time I choose a new control it creates ANOTHER control set named "my new controller"

I was given to understand that once I create a new control set (second column from the top), then each time I add another button/Axis then press SAVE/ESC it will incorporate my added button into the already existing control set.

Sorry. Maybe I'm being thick but I just don't get it!

Forget about the default FS 2024 profiles - you have to create a new one from scratch, so:

1) use the cogwheel to "Duplicate" one of the default profiles and name that "RY Basic Stick";

2) with this new profile selected in the correct section (General / Airplane controls ), start making the necessary assignements and at the end select "Apply to all" and "Make default" again under the cogwheel options;

3) Whenever you need a variant, say "RY B350 Stick", duplicate the "RY Basic Stick" with the B350 aircraft selected, and name it "RY B350 Stick" and start from there with the most specific assignments.

4) The "Specific" section will only show entries when aircraft developers create those specific properties for their models.

Yes. You must first duplicate a profile and then rename it to whatever you want. Thereafter, any changes you make in that new profile will remain. Very confusing in the beginning but once you get it, it's magic 😁

BTW Rob, are you the guy who did flight dynamics way back in the good old days of PSS?

Thanks JComm. Two things however. Almost all my settings are the same for each category of aircraft. I'm trying to get a UNIVERSAL set of controls. If occasionally I need a slightly different control set I understand that I copy and rename that set. Yes?

BIG PROBLEM: I have searched every key binding and there are no mixture controls assigned. So I try creating a mixture axis (either -100 to100 or 0-100) but the red mixture control moves then quickly moves back again as though something else is controlling it. Also the button on the mixer control can be moved by holding the mouse against it but if I push the lever it always returns to zero. Any ideas?

(Auto mixture is set to OFF in Assist settings).

BTW I really appreciate your help! Thank you.

Mixture controls are there Rob, both under the "keyboard 2024 traversal" default profile and through assignment to joystick controls, but are probably tricky to search for.

Other stuff is bugged like for instance helicopter throttle which I haven't managed to properly assign and ends up always working as yet another collective 😕

I am far from my sim desktop now until around  1900 UTC, but, I'll check when I get back home !

Yes I did a few PSS aircraft.

Couple of suggestions for you. Try inverting the binding you have and maybe also try using Mixture 1 Axis (-100 to 100%).

System 1: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X @ 4.2GHz, 2x16GB DDR4 2600MHz CL18 RAM, EVGA RTX 3090 FTW, Samsung 840 Pro SSD 1TB, Samsung 840 Pro SSD 512GB, Seagate 2TB HDD, Windows 11 Pro 64bit, Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog.

System 2: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D @ 5.7GHz, 2 x 32GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 RAM, ASUS ROG ASTRAL RTX5090 OC, 2 x 4TB Lexar NM790 M.2 PCIe 4.0, Crucial T705 2TB Gen5 M.2, Samsung 840 Pro SSD 1TB, Moza AB9 with Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog Flight Stick, Winwing Orion Rudder Pedals, Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog Throttle Quadrant.

Also, one thing to note if you have problems with things not working right on an input, constantly flicking back and forth. Click the little cogwheel next to the bind and disable "input repetition", which is default enabled on every single bind. Works like a turbo button and that keeps repeating the input, which can cause problems on some binds.

[MSI MPG X870E Carbon | 9800X3D (PBO +200Mhz / -20 Offset) | Corsair 64GB DDR5 (Custom Timings) | RTX 4090 Founders Edition (Undervolted) | WD SNX 850X 4TB + 4TB | Antec Flux Pro]

I've had the exact same problems.  I've gone through the videos and learned the new system.  I set things up in my 172, set as default, apply to all.  Everything works in my flight.  I close down and try again the next day and often the defaults are wrong again.  Sometimes I make a small change that never gets saved and I have to do it again.  Sometimes it loads correctly, sometimes certain devices get the correct one while others do not, etc.  One of the default commands has engine shutdown to a common button, so I'm regularly shutting my engines down in the middle of taxi.

It might still be me doing something wrong, but I don't think so.  I've spend 99% of my time in the 172 anyway.

What I've learned is that before every flight, load in and check that the correct profiles are selected for every device.  Sometimes they are, sometimes they are not.

This is so disappointing to see that this game/simulator is in such bad shape.
The primary issue is the fiasco with the flight controls interface. If this is a "flight simulator," the core function of adjusting the flight controls, unfinished settings in respective menus, and losing many saved settings when you restart the program indicates a lack of quality control and the poor qualifications of the programmers. After so many years of experience with MSFS2020, this MSFS2024 shouldn't have these kinds of issues unless they hired some rookie programmers. UNACCEPTABLE RELEASE FOR ALMOST THE SAME GAME/SIMULATOR AT THIS STAGE. IT DOES NOT DO ANY GOOD FOR CERTAIN NICE FEATURES OF THIS SOFTWARE.

Hi Sethos,

Thanks. Yes I did see the "input repetition" boxes. Unfortunately on some bindings the tick is stuck and I can't seem to disable it. But the mixture lever is actually pulsating back and forward when attempt to control it, as though another controller is influencing it, but when I check, there are no other mixture bindings.
