PMDG Upgrade Path

+1 as I just wonder how many of these folks who expect free upgrades would actually do the same, put in some kind effort (extra work) for their employee and expect no compensation for it.

I honestly don't blame PMDG one bit for, it has nothing to with other developers and their upgrade policies. People can grumble all they want, either except the upgrade fee or not, decide with your wallet and just move on from there.

If you'd like to scope it in to just PMDG, be my guest.

The answer is the same.

The question you asked was literally

Let's review, since keeping track of threads seems to be hard for you:

That's the great thing. PMDG are no longer King of the hill and other developers don't charge for upgrades. So we can vote with our wallets

YukonPete, to whom I'm replying, is implying that PMDG does charge for updates, and stating that others don't.

So i'm not sure what you're angle is (and I'm not sure you're sure, either), but...

The point of the question is that PMDG does NOT charge for upgrades. They charge for new versions re-built for new sims.

And since you like the "whataboutism" red herring, the above is what the vast majority of other developers do, as well.

Is that clear enough for you? I hope so. Now, how about a cogent response...?

Nah! PMDG loves opening your wallet for updates. That's why I will no longer support them after 20 years. We have better developers to choose from today.

they dont miss a trick, they could charge 100 dollars for an update and people would pay it. Even it it only took a few hours to get the 737 working in ms2024, they will charge.

Ill wager they will wait for enough sales of that ms2024 B747 then the 737/patches will then come out.  Youve got to love PMDGs drip selling.  Ill throw a guess they will do the 736 before the 738 and 777, the normal drip selling techique.

Just like with p3d v4, the 747 came out first then the 737/777... oh but only after the sales of the 744 dried up.  All part of the plan. They dont miss a trick.

Good luck to them I say, the community never learns.

I understand that you seem to be throwing random Cool Words N Phrases out. Or you're drunk.

Could be both...? 🤣

A lot of bla-bla for nothing.

PMDG has a business plan and they follow it. Us, as simmers are abosultely free to buy or not their products.

If they make huge sales (and it seems it was the case for the 737 and 777), then their business model was indeed the right one. And when I see the number of 77F online on Vatsim or IVAO, I assume the 77F is again a huge success.

It seems it becomes a national sport here on avsim to bash PMDG for eveything even if most of us here own their products (an I assume enjoy them!). There is a simple way, you don't like that company anymore or their products, then don't buy anything from them anymore and if their sales plunge, then they will disappear or change their business model. Everything else is just plain bulls*** and bla-bla

Now about updates, the 77W and 77F updates to msfs24 will be free for msfs owners and they have faith it will be the case for marketplace users.

We will see for the 737. But keep in mind it's a 2 y.o product so if some huge work is required for updating it to 24 and it has more functionnalities, it dosn't seem unrealistic to pay a small upgrade fee. Nobody is working for free and most of us wouldn't work for free IRL. And if we have to pay for the 737 upgrade and you decide not to pay, then the aircraft will still work as usual in the simulator it was designed for.

Wow...I hardly know where to start with THAT cornucopia of..."thoughts".

They need to get their existing line up running in v2024 as I bet their sales are already trending downwards.

The drip selling thing won't apply to the compatibility updates and it's silly that you believe so.

So while the 747 is undoubtedly well along, all this other stuff will be long cleared up by the time it releases.

I wouldn't be surprised if v2024-specific features are a paid upgrade - from any developer.

And IF you were right in that "the community never learns", PMDG wouldn't need luck. Right...? 😂

We'll "learn" when something better comes along in the form of a viable competitor. Such as iFly's MAX, which seems to be garnering a rather good reputation....

TBH, I'm not willing to pay for a compatibility upgrade. They need to eat that to the same extent that the other devs do.

I AM willing to pay a bit for v2024-specific new features, tho.

The iFly max looks OK, but certainly not good enough for me to spend $70 for another 737, when the two 737s I already have fly great.

I feel mostly the same, Bob.

I think the key in this case is that it's a MAX (which doesn't necessarily motivate me), and that it does seem to have some specific advantages over the PMDG according to a couple of the IRL guys around here.

At the moment, if I were going to spend on a Boeing airliner, it'd be the 777F. As that is truly different, rather than just a big screen cockpit 737 😉.
