UK snow coverage (or lack of!)

FWIW, this is NOT Active Sky controlled weather. There are several clues, including the clear skies preset loaded, lack of any wind layers, default ISA conditions throughout, etc. Your ASFS screenshot does not show what depiction mode you are in, only the weather data source/mode.

If AS preset weather were showing, you would see the Active Sky FS Preset Weather preset name loaded along with the proper conditions. Which would be set as described in the conditions screen.

Not quite sure what we are seeing here. Just wanted to clarify, as this is quite confusing and misleading. It looks kind of like you have manually changed the preset to clear skies here, or have changed the depiction mode and instantly took screenshot without waiting a few seconds for things to load in.

Who do you take me for? for a circus magician?

I will clarify my version for you. I am on the last beta version of Active Sky and the photo you see is indeed Active sky actif mod there is not even debate! I'm so manic! Before taking these two photos I had already tried both passive/active modes by taking my time and using the camera mode. There was enough time for the weather to load. I played with the drone camera for 10 minutes and it represents the weather in Manchester yesterday without the snow cover but with the real sky .I switched from passive to active mode for these two photos. I never fly with passive mode.I'm going on a trip for a few days and I'll come back with more demonstrations. Good or bad for you.

Do you know exactly what your Beta software looks like?

The back of my house faces NW so departures on 05L are visible to me within a minute. 😁

  • I am currently flying from JFK to ATL(2020, not 2024), and Live Weather is giving me extensive snow coverage along the Appalachians - most probably from the most recent storm a couple of days ago, but

Living 3 miles from the airport I can confirm extensive snow coverage across the whole of NW England. See my website below for current conditions.

I didn’t see any snow in North Wales or Liverpool last weekend - so there’s definitely an issue here.

@Damian Clark Do we get accurate snow coverage with AS set to passive mode?

I think you have misunderstood me. Maybe you are having some kind of weather depiction issue or installation issue or the screenshots were taken out of sequence? The screenshots shown do not represent AS controlled weather as I described with the specific items not being set according to AS preset weather. AS Preset weather will show AS preset as the selected preset, and the conditions will be populated with multiple wind layers and non-ISA conditions, which is not the case in your shot. So there is an issue there. It is NOT AS preset weather. I think that is clear, and I do know a little about my software and MSFS weather depiction.

ASFS does not control ground snow (or any preset-specific weather parameters) in passive mode.

It was mainly a Beta version with all the consequences that this can have. The screenshots are in the right order and Active sky has been in Active mode for a good 10 minutes already and all the installations are perfectly executed.I also think you misunderstood.

Plenty of people have an axe to grind, or have PC/configuration problems.

Perhaps I did, but the fact still remains that without AS preset loaded, you aren't getting AS preset weather, so something isn't right. I can help you via support ticket if you'd like.

With the settings you use are the transitions minimal? I watched a youtube and it was so abrupt it went from few clouds to overcast in the blink of an eye which is no good really for me personally.

That can't happen with ASFS, unless: user manually initiates a refresh, has disabled smoothing, or changed certain options/performs certain actions that reset the weather, or another weather add-on is installed and conflicting (we have numerous cases of this). In other words, that's either user-initiated or some of of problem and not how ASFS operates with preset weather control... where cloud transitions are smoothed, and this smoothing rate is configurable.

With the latest beta version no more real representation problems on the live weather of Active Sky.
