My longest long haul yet...

Featured Replies

I work from home a lot and tend to do flights "around" my workday so I like flights around 10-12 hours.  That way I can depart prior to my first call, monitor the flight as I work, this is my current flight viewed from my work desk.  It's on the other side of one of my Deskpro Conferencing systems so all I have to do is tilt my head to see it LOL.  The soundbar with the 3 cameras is a full room conferencing system but the simulator is hidden under it if I move the Overhead so no one else can see it 🙂

With that said, today is my "longest" long haul in MSFS to date.  KSFO-NZWN direct.  I know NZWN has had 777's before so I know it's capable and I remember NZWN even in P3D as one of my favorite destinations in addition to them both being incredible Flightbeam sceneries.  The challenge will be getting out of NZWN and back to KSFO. I will have to figure out if I have to hop to NZAA to refuel or if I can make it out of NZWN and back with 235,000+ pounds of fuel on board.

I left KSFO at 6am, my first work call was at 7 and sync'd the flight to real world time so it was 3am in SFO and midnight in Wellington.  (my goodness it's like trying to coordinate a conference call with EST, PST, Europe and India together LOL)   Flight distance is 6,026 miles and should take 13 hours.  My last work call ends at 6pm.  I should land between 7 and 7:30pm and it should be about 1pm in Wellington.  It all works out perfectly!!!

So I don't know if I am flying around work or working around flying but somehow I made them work together 😂 🤦‍♂️    I will actually wake up early for physical therapy and get that done so I can start a flight before work, I am either dedicated or crazy or like most things a little bit of both LOL.

What are your longest hauls in MSFS without time acceleration?

My longest in P3D was actually KEWR-NZWN and KEWR-YSSY direct, this is my longest to date in MSFS by 1,000 miles although ironically my longest prior was LLBG-KEWR and despite being 1,000 miles shorter took 12 1/2 hours as it is always a headwind so only 30-60 minutes difference between flight time for a 5,000 mile flight vs a 6,000 mile flight.

Cool moment enroute, Sunrise on the left and Moonset on the right.

Oh, this is the "work" side of the office that pays the bills for the "play" side of the office with a shout out to Avsim on the screen 😂  Excuse the mess, it's been a long week!

I did Tokyo Narita to LAX in P3Dv4 one time, no time accel.

In MSFS, probably KMIA to SBKP.  It's decently long.  I don't fly as long a routes as some of you, I'm sure.  I don't have that kind of time usually.

Tokyo-LAX would be a good one!  I remember back in the P3D days when I had to try to coordinate flights out of scenery I also got good FPS and LAX was never one of them LOL!  Total honesty, I had to go look up SBKP but I learned something new 🙂

Now that the A380X has step climbs implemented I'm looking to do SYD-DXB tonight, synced to real time as well.

UAE417 departs SYD at 2110 real time so it'll be an overnighter.

Another great flight! Dubai was always a great scenery to fly in and out of as is Sydney and a great performing scenery as well!

What is the flight time?

A hypothetically almost perfect antipodal flight would be Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport, Morocco (IATA: TNG), to Whangarei Aerodrome, New Zealand (IATA: WRE), whose designated locators are 10,800 nautical miles (12,428 mi; 20,002 km) apart,[35] almost the maximum possible distance. However, with only a length of 3,599 ft (1,097 m), Whangarei's runway is too short to accommodate any current (as of 2015) commercial jet airliner, especially one with the required range. Traveling between them would currently need at least two plane changes.

---------

When I first got the 777-200LR in FSX I did that one Tangier-Whangarei nonstop, and on the way back did a brief refueling stop in Auckland. I think around 23 hours each way (roughly), more like some long ferry boat crossing than a long flight.

Otherwise I've done Singapore-Bogota, a potential (but unlikely) Star Alliance connection (10,424 nm), Shanghai-Sao Paulo (2 megacities with no direct links 10,033 nm), and of course SYD-LHR 9,188 nm which should soon become the real life longest regular nonstop.

SIN-JFK and SIN-EWR are shorthauls for me, just kidding.

In MSFS so far I've just been using the BBJ1 (PMDG 737-700), and I can't exactly remember the longest, but I believe it was Singapore Seletar to London City, maybe like 14 1/2 hours.

# 1 I learned something else today so thank you!!  # 2 holy cow those are some long hauls!!  My little 13 hour jaunt is a puddle jumper for you!

Wow, 14 1/2 in the BBJ, that is crazy!

And I thought I like long haul, now I get your user name 😂

Hi @psolk! First of all, I like the way you share your "day at work" and also like it, that I am not te only one who "work this way" 😉

My longest flight was round about 11 hours and it´s just a few days ago. Started before my other scheduled things to do and ended after all the mandatory appointments I had that day.

If I recall, I flew from VTSP to NFFN with "Thai-Airways".

The most cool thing was, I started at real Daytime, flew into the sunset at evening, due the night and short before decent the morning glory did it´s magic!

So I had 2 beautiful moments wich had my full attention, besides TakeOff and Landing.

It also happend in the PMDG 777, what a beautiful piece of work. I fly in VR and when working or doing other things, I place my VARJO Aero at my desk and do other stuff.

I have no pictures to share here, because my wife is sleeping there ATM, as I am sick and don´t want to come to close so she can stay healthy and take care of her work as well.

But Thanks for sharing and I wish you further nice flights as well.

BTW: I love Airbus and I will purchase IniBuilds A350 as soon as possible. It will give me other nice opportunities for Long Haul with less fuel consumption....and High fidelity modern cockpit systems!

I really like what they have showcased!

Cheers

Marcus

I used to do IAH-NRT for real in the 777LR. It could be close to 14 hours in the winter months with the stronger winds. We all felt pretty tired by the time we landed. I've never done it in the sim.

SBKP is Viracopos in Brazil.  I like to sim cargo flights and SBKP is a big cargo hub.

There is payware scenery by Paulo Ricardo and if you don't know him, his scenery is high level.   SBKP's cargo area has a big open-air pavilion, and I think they keep at least some cargo under that.  They have some regular warehouses too.   I wish I knew more about Viracopos cargo ops.   Anyway, I have parked DC-10-30F, A300-600F, and 737-700 freighters in front of that pavilion and it's kind of neat rolling up to it, rather than a typical warehouse/freight building.

Wow!  You LOVE Aviation !  You Love Technology ! That room of your's is a DREAM !!!

The model cars also look simply GREAT !!!

Congratulations !!!

And yes, doing those long and tedious flights if one has nothing else to do is better accomplished the way you do it 🙂

The closest I get to your experience is when, during the weekend, I let my FS 2024 session with a medium range flight across Europe in the Inibuilds 321N or 330, and go to the shopping and sometimes even have lunch there, then return home and proceed from there to the arrival 🙂

Oh yes I bet you were worn out...they can have some MAJOR headwinds on that route, that's a strong jet over the North Pacific.

Haha, yes and yes and I also love cars and dogs and mildly like people 😂

Thank you so much!  The model cars are all Lego...  All of those were built by me as well.  It's something else to do during the long hauls plus they kept me going through my recovery and they are great if you are a bit OCD like me 😉

The "real" toy room is downstairs with the race sim, trains, 1:18 cars more Lego and where the tables are made from old race tires LOL
Nope, the rules of the game are the flights only count if you don't leave the same building as your flightsim setup, yours don't count 😂 That is except for your real world flights which I think is VERY cool!!  Congratulations to you as well!!

Well it's not a competition but you win  LOL.  Always admire and envious of the guys who get to pilot these marvels of technology in the real world.  Ironically, a number of the guys at the race track are real world long haul pilots in their day jobs.  I guess it's their adrenaline fix when they aren't flying 700,000 pounds across the globe LOL.  Very cool!  Alas some of us will only ever play a pilot from our desks but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn last night so I may actually be qualified I have to check...

First of all feel better Marcus!  Very considerate of you but you can also tell her that "sharing is caring" 🙂   Very good of you to think of your wife like that!

Glad to know I'm not alone either LOL!!!

I love those flights with either a sunrise and sunset or sunset and sunrise.  It's very cool How is the Varjo?  That is a very high end unit right?

I saw the 350 Live Stream today as well.  She looks great.  I wish we had someone step up to do a really quality 787 as well 😞   Sadly I don't think we can count on Qualitywings LOL...

Thank you again and feel better.

I work from home too and got into the long game lately doing Kalitta Air ops with the PMDG 777F. Longest so far was KCVG-RJAA 13 plus hours. Makes the work day go by faster
