Two confirmed dead in plane crash at Marana Regional Airport

Featured Replies

So are we just more sensitized to these things happening right now or is something out there going wrong?

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

I would say accidents in General Aviation is business as normal, no more or less than usual, but the recent DCA and Toronto incidents has hightened awareness on everything aviation, at least no one is talking about Boeing anymore

Exactly that, it’s the normal routine for the media, normally GA accidents don’t interest them.

Yeah, I was surprised to read about this GA accident on the front page. I think this is media - there are PLENTY of GA accidents happening. This collision happened at an uncontrolled field. Unfortunately, GA is full of folks that make very questionable choices sometimes, thus the accident rate much greater than commercial.

I tend to think that this one in particular is likely a result of "lack of situational awareness..."

High Wing vs. Low Wing, Kit Plane vs. Cessna.

That was the first thing that popped into my mind as well...poor visual separation.

I have a lot of respect for Juan Browne and his Blancolirio channel on YT. His initial analysis on this one was surprising to me...my take-away was that he was actually mad about this accident...not his usual (extremely) objective reporting, IMHO. Going further into the comments on his video post and someone stated that the Lancair was coming in for his second landing attempt...on the first attempt, he came within 100 ft of a previous accident...apparently verified with ADS-B data...I haven't double checked on that.

Fortunate that at least one of the aircraft was able to land safely.

Regardless, RIP to the two individuals.
