What happens at the end of beta if you partake?

Featured Replies

Most likely a silly question.

I am considering updating to SU1 beta in MSFS 2024 to use the A350.

I have never enrolled in a beta yet and I was wondering what happens at SU1 full release?

Do I need to do a full install from scratch again?

Thanks

Scott Griffiths

Usually, or certainly with 2020, the SU 1 Beta becomes the current version once their happy with it. Those on SU1 don't normally get any download when the sim is upgraded, as we had the latest version, You might get a small download to update Nav data.

Now one thing to keep in mind, and was an issue in 2020, if you had the installation on your main drive (C) there is a chance it can be wiped, i don't know if this is still the case, and i was not too bothered as it's only 50gb download in 2024. The other way to avoid that is move your Community folder etc to another drive.

Thanks for the info. That’s great as I have MSFS on D and I link my addons via add on linker.

I assume after full release you can just delist from the beta program?

Yes, it’s easy to leave the beta once they have announced the release candidate version.

That Asobo will announce MFS2028 and back to square one.

Last time I went into a beta, MS wiped my entire msfs installation along with hundreds of addons at the end.  Never again!

If you have the steam version you do nothing at full release.  If not, god knows but plenty of horror stories in the past 🙃

I only join betas because I use the Steam version which is painless.  If I was not on the Steam version I wouldn't touch the beta.

Yes, there have been instances of issues with files but it doesnt' seem to be a problem now. Still, good to know about it.

I'm on the Store version. I have gone in and out of the 2024 beta. Takes about 2 minutes to click the right boxes (unless you remember the procedure, then it's quicker). And then when you start  msfs2024 it downloads files. Less than 4 minutes. Done. It's much faster with 2024 than it is with 2020.

The official list of beta fixes was over 600. The biggest change is that things look a whole lot nicer. There wasn't any fps increase that I could notice.
