March 5, 20251 yr Yeah well lossless scaling works pretty well, but it would still be better if it was natively implemented in the sim.
March 5, 20251 yr Frame generation is a very innovative feature, it comes in two flavors: 1.) The reactive or "after the fact" way. This is what Lossless Scaling does. It needs to wait until TWO frames are rendered normally by the computer, then it interpolates one (or two, or three) frames in between, then shows the first real frame, then the interpolated frames, then the second real frame. It is obvious that there is a certain lag introduced by this process, and a very nimble aircraft will show this when yanking and banking. 2. The predictive or "look into the future" way. This is what DLSS does. It looks at two (or more) frames rendered by the computer, then "predicts" what the next frame will be like by analyzing the motion on the screen. This requires so called "motion vectors", X-Plane does not have these (yet). In my personal opinion, both of these methods are not fully equivalent to simply making the calculations faster (either by better algorithm or better hardware). It seems to be an easy way out and you can see how Nvidia happily jumped on that bandwagon, harping about how many FPS their new 50xx cards can generate...when these are mostly fake frames. Not unlike CPU manufacturers just piled on more cores, claiming they "quadrupled computing power" when going from 1 to 4 cores. Well, it´s a bit like saying "get a second car if you want to go twice as fast!"...
March 5, 20251 yr Well In my opinion xplane on a 120hz monitor with lossless scaling and g-sync is WAY smoother than using it without. Same with MSFS built in FG. So, unless they come up with a way to generate 100fps with optimisation and no Fg, then I’ll take the generated frames any day over the basic frames!

I know you folks are always busy making XP better, so it's fantastic that you (and devs like @GoranM) take the time to share your knowledge. 🙂👍

Lossless Scaling has probably been one of the most beneficial pieces of software I have ever purchased and it was 7 USD. It's almost insane to think that for 7 USD any GPU can take advantage of a feature that NVidia and AMD have been working on for years and is the top marketing pitch for their latest, cutting edge GPUs. Beta 3.1 of LS even adds Adaptive Frame Generation which isn't even something that NVidia offers lol. Oh ya, and it doesn't have to implemented by the game dev like with MFG. Ryan
March 5, 20251 yr Another vote for Lossless Scaling, it extended life of my GTX 1070 which by the way was perfectly fine with any other simulator out there but for XP12 needed some external help. Oh and Laminar released some more info on what will be in 12.2.0, taken from Discord Quote Hello Discord pilots. It’s roadmap time! We’re loving the the positive reception to 12.1.4, and the 12.1.X updates. These have been monumental updates, and we're glad to see that everyone is enjoying them. The next update will be 12.2.0. This is a big one – we can’t wait to show what we’ve been cooking up. Some of the features that we’re targeting: - Dark Cockpits will be addressed in this update - Broad Lighting Improvements - Cloud Improvements - Stability Improvements Stay tuned for more information over the upcoming weeks! March 5, 20251 yr Ok despite what I previously said about using AFG with a 60hz monitor, I have changed my mind. With fps capped at 30 and LSFG X2, natural frames can still dip below 30 when panning around at payware airports for example. When this happens with X2 set, my 60 fps can dip accordingly. So I get a natural frame drop to say 27 and LSFG X2 frame will drop to 54 creating a stutter. With AFG, it keeps the output frame at 60 fps even when the natural frame rate drops below 30....and it compensates fast...like while you're panning around. This is absolute magic. NVidia hasn't even come up with an adaptive frame gen solution and I have it on a 3080ti for 7 USD. Ryan
March 6, 20251 yr 😍 X-Plane 12.1.4 is in a state of development that fulfills my needs and expectations. With the few addons I use, I've made my install "PERFECT" and I can easily enjoy each flight simulator session I do with it. But there is surely room for additional fine tuning, like in ATC, weather, AI traffic, etc... There's always room for improvement 🙂 Edited March 6, 20251 yr by jcomm Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
