Elevator trim change rate

Featured Replies

Is there a way to change the number of inputs per revolution of a elevator trim wheel?

Bravo Quadrant Trim Wheel: The number of input signals seen or acknowledged by the sim varies greatly plane to plane. I can find nothing in Setting/Controls that tells the sim how to react to trim wheel signals.

The Bravo wheel generates a signal every 20° of rotation but the sim only changes the trim (degrees) per ONE revolution of the wheel varies from 0.5° to 2.0°.

However, the CH Yoke produces an signal every time I press a button and the sim changes very rapidly when holding the button down.

Is there any documentation about managing the elevator trim?

Hi there,

you can try to use a command like the following:

TargetDataDefinition="SIMCONNECT:ELEVATOR TRIM POSITION" Value="0.001"

The value can be changed depending on the trim speed you wish according to the special plane you use.

Easiest way is to use an app like "SpadNext" or "Axis and Ohs"

Volker

I must say that trim behaviour seems a bit odd in 2024 compared to 2020.  I use the keyboard to control triim usually, though I do have buttons set on my controller to do it.

I've just learned about, and started to use Simtrim (https://makers-point.com/flight-sim-tools/simtrim/) and it has many options, including setting the sensitivity of the trim buttons (which is Bravo trim wheel). Finally I can trim the C208!

Does this software need to be running with the sim, or is it set and forget and we don't need to open it before flying?

It has to be running alongside MSFS. From what I can tell, it captures the input and sets the trim via sim connect, since I’ve deleted all trim assignments in the FS control menu. I haven’t noticed any performance impact.

the problem with sim trim is that if you have vJoy running it conflicts - I have brunner pedals & stick & they rely on vJoy - but even with the brunner software I have real problems trying to trim the airplanes - some work better than others though

I have the BRAVO and I'll be up front and say superb piece of gear but I'd have paid £50 extra for an analog trim wheel. It's rubbish. At best it's OK for fine adjustment during cruise for example. Anything that needs doing quickly forget it. I have a Saitek wheel and that was brilliant (I forgot to bring it back from the USA).

I use the yoke buttons and fsuipc instead.

You can't beat an analog hardware wheel. Sublime speed and smoothness.

What a great tool!  Thanks so much for the suggestion.

SimTrim works perfectly and is so simple to use.

It was crashing the sim for me on exit (MSFS 2024 Steam version). Had to uninstall it.

This is new information to me. Does it work with PMDG as well?

Thanks
