How to do this, I don't know. The Alcubierre metric. Trouble is you need a huge amount of exotic matter or energy. Negative energy or mass. Thus far, we don't know if negative energy is real. Some might say the Casimir effect is an example, some might not. There was a paper written recently where it was suggested that it might be feasible to travel just under lightspeed without needing exotic matter. I'm sure our resident physicist, peter, will see this and tell us where we are right and wrong and add share his insights. 👍 Edited March 13, 20251 yr by martin-w

If you're a Heinlein fan, you may have missed this book published recently: https://www.amazon.com/Us-Living-Comedy-Customs/dp/0743491548 This is said to be his very first novel, written in 1939 and never published at the time. It's fairly typical Heinlein with lots of Heinlein's social commentary interspersed with the story. I enjoyed reading it. Skip the introduction by Spider Robinson. I wish I had. I'll likely purchase the Kindle edition as it is cheaper and much more compact than hardcover or even paperback. I currently have nearly 2,000 books filling my bookshelves. 🤑 Fr.
