XP 12 and FPS lock, Vsync, etc

Featured Replies

Hi all - I decided to buy XP12 as I have not tried it in a long time (XP10?) and was intrigued with some of the nice improvements (esp in Beta).  I have done a few flights in the Zibo 738 and overall getting smooth performance.  Is it possible to set up an FPS lock in XP?  NCP does not seem to do much as I set it to 30 with Vsync set to adaptive 1/2 rate as I run my monitor at 60hz but my FPS seems to then stick at 60.  At KDCA, I am sitting around 45-50 which makes things stuttery.  I'd prefer to just stick at 30fps but maybe XP is a different animal and I do not need to do any of this..??  Thanks for any help!

I use RTSS to lock FPS to 30 and then use Lossless Scaling to double that to 60.  Works great and is very smooth.

This is with 4k, 60Hz monitor, 3080ti.

I had thought about RTSS and tried it.  I get a consistent CTD upon starting flight with it on XP12.  Really odd....

you can simply add --lock_fr=30 to your xp shortcut target.

"X:\X-Plane 12\X-Plane.exe" --lock_fr=30

In the properties of the xp12 icon on your desktop.

Great tip!

I have been using RivaTuner with limit set to 29, an then LossLess with X2 factor.

My monitor is only Full HD and 60Hz.

But with it's last Beta update fs2024 also allowed for setting an FPS limit in one of the conf files. Now I can do that too in xp12!!! 👍

I do not enable vsync in xp12 or Nvidia control panel or inspector, nor do I limit FPS from those apps.

Interesting...I am not seeing anywhere in the properties directing to the .exe....might be because I bought it on Steam?  I'm getting instant CTD's with RTSS so I may just leave FPS unlimited for now and experiment with Vsync in NCP.  I do tend to get around 60 for the most part in the Zibo.

ah, yea on steam, then u may try to create a shortcut of the exe, and then add the option there to the target, else there is a thing on steam where u can set launch option by right clicking a game, you could try there also

I added a second shortcut from the .exe and it seems to work!  I will test it out and see how it goes...thanks!

I tried already and it works.

Only quirk is that I can't use "Map Enhancement Pro" as I used to : by simply letting the app start X-Plane 12 itself.

It runs X-Plane 12 using it's own directive and doesn't allow, at least that I could find, to use specific launch options. Will probably open a ticket in their support.

Thankfully RTSS doesn't cause any problems here.

Check if option "Framebuffer" is selected under "On-Screen Display Coordinate Space", if it is, then switch to Viewport and test.
