Sadly, we had to put down one of our 18 yr old cats yesterday, Ms Molly.  Her sister cat, Luna, is still going strong.  Both cats have been excellent pets, they kept the three dogs in line.  Ms Molly was also an excellent  mouser, much needed in a 136 yr old Victorian home.  The mice won't miss her!  It's odd, but you can tell the house is missing a soul.  May there be tuna flavored mice covered in catnip in kitty heaven😻

Condolences for your loss; it's hard when one has to put down a faithful pet.

We had to do the same a couple years ago and it was very sad. To date we have not replaced him.

yep know how you feel had to put my 19 year old down last year, waited 2  days went to the animal rescue and got another one to replace her

Today I had to take my cat  to the vet to get her teeth cleaned and some ultra sounds of her stomach due to her always vomiting after eating and  a x-ray of her chest for any other symtoms she may have  had. All went well with the x-ray and ultra sounds found that one of her kidneys was only  halve  the size of  her other one.  So they proceeded to put her under for  the teeth clean  than suddenly her heart stopped and they couldn't revive her.  She was only 9 years old compared to my cat that survived for 19 years. So I'am off to the animal aid for another  cat, got both cats from the same animal aid

So sad, sorry for your loss.  Our favorite cat of all time, Dax, died when she was about 6 yrs old.  Cardiac arrest from complications of diabetes.  She was a cat with a dogs personality.  Greeted you at the door, followed you around the house, had to meet every stranger and always let the dogs know who was boss.  Still miss her some twenty years later.  But again, my condolences Peter.  I think it's most healing to get another pet soon after losing a beloved one.

thx for your remarks, yes moral of story is not get your cat teeth cleaned 🙂  although the vet said her blood red cells were way down from her last blood check so guess this  is  a blessing  since she didnt suffer of kidney  failure which was most likely going to happen soon

As one who had to have cat put down I can empathize with you.

We had a 15 year old cat that had cancer and couldn't control her bowels anymore.

I took her to the vet and petted her as she lay on the table.  she was very calm.  The vet came in and gave her a tranquilizer shot.  She rested her chin on my wrist and never moved.  The vet then gave her the lethal shot.  She never moved or even quivered.  The vet then put the stethoscope to her side and said she was gone.

I'd be lying if I didn't say I teared up and choked up a bit.

You never realize how much a pet has become a part of you family until it dies.

yep so true noel, off to the aid to check out my new cat, going to be hard to pick one out so many cute ones in there for adoption

Or more.  We had a cat come through our back door when it was open one afternoon and she decided to stay.  A few weeks later she had 4 kittens.  We kept two of them.  We always had a couple of feral acts we fed on the back porch.  Once in a while one of them would come in the house and decide to stay.

yea got a simliar thing my next door neighbours cat keeps coming around my back door for food since silly me  made  the mistake of feeding it one time now it keeps coming around 🙂  Shes a outside cat and always been sleeping out side on my back door in cold or hot weather, since of my cat passed away she doesn't dare to enter my house even if i leave the door open since  she doesn't  realize thats she  has gone. Anyway picked out my next cat hopefully be picking it up tomorrow mite keep the neighbours cat company 🙂

Well, that is certainly true. My late dog came into the bathroom while I was taking care of business, lay across my bare feet, and promptly had what my vet pronounced a "stroke." Several in a row actually...

After carefully freeing my trapped feet, I picked Bubba up, who fortunately was a miniature dauschund so didn't weigh too much and drove him to the vet. He was still alive but demonstrably suffering. After a careful examination, the vet gave me the sad news. I held Bubba for the last time while he was put to sleep.

I left the exam room in shock and sorrow, bawling my eyes out. There were about a dozen people with their own pets waiting to be seen. It was very touching that all of them gave me a comforting hug as I passed through the waiting room.

Sorry for your loss. Know the feeling. On the 14th of march last year I took our beloved dog to the vet for the last time. 15.5 years of being read like an open book and always having him around as the constant companion. Watching him die, albeit very peacefully, wasn't easy at all.

Still miss the little guy to be honest.
