AIG Migration from MSFS2020 to MSFS2024 ???

Featured Replies

I've not yet found an understandable(!!!) step by step procedure how to make my AIG Installation in MSFS to work in MSFS2024. I'm really scared about this because in the past, every bigger change in my system/new installation etc. forced me to download the whole AIG stuff again. As much as I like and support AIG, the procedures to change installation etc. are difficult to find. Descriptions are often cryptic to me, if I understand it at all. I think I'm not a totally dumb, but with AIG I have had always problems when I had to change something essential. I'm normally fine with advanced computing hardware and software, but AIG is a different story, at least for me.

have you looked in  their forum

Yes, and I only found this, which appears a bit complicated to me. I hoped, that someone here has already done the migration.

1. Start AIM in 2020 Mode and close after it has fully loaded
2. Verify that AIM has renamed the OCI package in MSFS2020 to "aig-aitraffic-oci"
3. Copy the directory to the MSFS2024 Community folder (DO NOT COPY any other AIG directory!)
3.1
Copy-Item -Path "H:\MSFS2020\Community\aig-aitraffic-oci*" -Destination "H:\MSFS2024\Community\aig-aitraffic-oci" -recurse -Force -Verbose (Sample CMD-command, Adjust the PATHS!!!!)

4. Start AIM in 2024 Mode
5. Open the Settings
6. Navigate to the OCI-Settings
7. Click "Reset SimObjects" (This will take several minutes!)
8. Restart AIM
9. Run a Model Update when asked

It's especially #3.1. which is totally unclear for me. As mentioned, I'm scared that I have to download all 73 GB again - and it is not done with one click ...

Thanks. Than I will try that too. Just copying one folder to another directory shouldn't affect anything.

One of the admins from AIG here.

For some people the solution with just a simple copy paste works great, but for others it does not. Simply because it contains some folders that are "links" to other folders, and that can give issues.

If the copy paste does not work, do the same as mentioned above, but at 3.1 use this prompt in Command Prompt (search for CMD in Windows and run the program found as admin):

xcopy F:\MSFS2020\Community\aig-aitraffic-oci F:\MSFS2024\Community\aig-aitraffic-oci /e /s /b

Remember to change the paths to your own folders.

Then afterward, do it as said in the "guide" above.

Or use a freeware utility like teracopy with file verification (That's what i used ) to ensure everything got copied properly. Cause like you i got hung up on 3.1 and i had forgotten my xcopy flags from dos days.

Do you have a reputable link for this program please?

Thank you all. Now I recognize the problem. In my case, I cannot do a simple copy paste because many of my aircraft folders contain "soundai" folder links which are leading to nowhere. That's why Windows refuses to copy/paste the complete "aig-aitraffic-oci" directory. This also explains to me, why I always see "soundai error lines" when starting FSLTL. I guess that's worth a direct thread/search in the AIG forum to see what is known about "soundai" dead links.

I do not own 2024, but with 2020 I always had my AIG folders linked to MSFS via Addon-Linker.

Since there is an AL version for 2024, why don't you try it, that would avoid all the afore mentioned troubles(?) even it is the only add-on you use it for. It does not cost anything.

Success. Finally I can use AIG traffic in both, MSFS2020 and 2024. The only thing that I had to do was to "Reset SimObjects" while in AIM 2020. This has repaired the dead "soundai" folder links. After that I could do a simple copy/paste of the "aig-aitraffic-oci" directory to then 2024 community folder. Then I continued following the the above description  (topics 4 to 9).

AIG traffic (via AIG TC) shows up and works with the usual issues like non-visible front and main gears depending on the distance. But that's another story.
