The X-Plane Demo is not persuasive for many simmers

I think this is turning into another fever-pitched anachronism in the force over scenery. Let's review a few things

  • Laminar is absolutely committed to improving scenery. No-one on the team (including Austin) sits twiddling their thumbs all day long.
  • Auto-Ortho and Map Enhancements is not an option. It is illegal (and quite frankly... a funky method of injection). Better can be done
  • I've seen no-one here attempt to do an analysis of the infrastructure or workflow to make ortho happen. I think when you do, will some of you will realise... just how much of a minefield you are digging here (and a reminder why no other commercial sim outside of MSFS offers Bing level imagery everywhere.) Streamed ortho isn't impossible... but there are severe consequences that people have gleefully skipped over 🙂
  • Here is a really good article on just how much of a rabbit hole you can get into (Bear in mind Infinite Flight is LOW resolution ortho. Tile size approx quadruples with each zoom level.) https://infiniteflight.com/blog/how-infinite-flight-streams-data
  • Ortho isn't the sole solution to prayers here. What users are craving for is "more detail, more variation, more accuracy". There are multiple mechanics that can improve that.

Calm down, research, go back to flying planes... profit?

And who is going to go through the 50,000 charts out there, read everyone just to add the odd landmark. Your all asumming everyone flys like you, most like me fly for fun. very few would even be aware there are references like buildings on charts. I have to use a chart with a building ref.

Ok, my enthusiasm for my XP12 seems to be winding people up. I'll leave the thread.

Nah, you're like me a few years ago - I too got all excited about XP, but then there are a few people on this particular forum who really will suck the fun out of anything if you let them. There's like 5-6 people that you need to add to your ignore list, after which things calm down.

Also... never, ever, ever, feed the troll.. they will try everything to get a rise out of you, and then will message incessantly till you give up and go away, because you have a life to live besides posting on a random forum!

So just ignore them and pretend they simply don't exist. There are reasonable people on here, but these few gatekeepers make it their mission to drive people away. So just ignore the gatekeepers.

Which 5-6? 🙂 you will know soon enough, if you haven't already realized.

OK, this one's run it's course...and I've removed the gratuitous sniping and the inevitable sequelae.
