NDB World

The dev responded to me in PM's and I'll be picking this up soon.  He's a new developer and I want to support him, and of course I would use the product also.   The dev gets a +1 for actually finding this thread on AVSIM and responding, that's a good start.   There isn't any map but the navaids could be loaded into LittleNavMap or something similar.

People forget how recently NDB's were in front-line use...i.e. the 80's and 90's and that wasn't very long ago in the overall scheme of things

We don't even do visual circling in the sim anymore!  I have a feeling we work(worked) for the same company haha.

I flew the hs748 and sf340 at that regional. Took both to the Arctic. Left in 2001 to go to our provincial govt to do forrest fire suppression with a c310 and cl215.....job came with a pension. Doing a NDB approach during a ppc ride in a machine with round engines was kinda cool......like turning back the clock  in time.

If there's no map, how do you know where the NDB's are, just station names, that I probably won't be familiar with?

You should ask the developer that question

There's a free trial of the NDBs in New Zealand available on flightsim.to, and there the developer mentions that you can use Little Navmap or PlanG to see where the NDBs are.

Thanks to the developer for this add-on.  I love flying in Northern Canada and I'm flying a lot of dead-reckoning nowadays in-sim (2020) versus even FSX, which, I'm pretty sure had many more NDBs/VORs around the world.  I'd be nice if he or someone else would do the same with VOR's.  They're slowly going away, too.  I'd like to see an NDB/VOR add-on based upon certain decades/periods in the past.

As a practising IFR instructor I will be glad when the world is rid of NDB's 🤣

Even if I wanted I could find any ndb near me within 100 miles. Gotta go way north lol

I was wondering if there was a list or map of NDB's included, or if it's everything from say circa 1995.  Not a big deal if there isn't but I was just wondering since I learned to navigate before GPS and sometimes I miss retro navigation.

Thank you for responding to me here, that's great that a developer will do that.  I did respond to your PM with pretty much the same question.

Hello sorry for the late reply..

There is not a biilt in map however if you use Little Nav Map you can get a list of all the NDB in the world. Here you can download Litle nav Map here https://albar965.github.io/littlenavmap.html

Search for Navaids then select NDB and if you are in MSFS 2020 you should see 9188 NDB if you have NDB-World installed if not i think there are around 3400.

For all those that are not intereested in NDB's. I know that Aviation has long left them behind. This project was created for a fairly large cummunity that still enjoys flying them.

disregard.

In the sim, NDB approaches are a good mental workout and great fun, especially dual NDB approaches that you can find in some countries. In IMC in the real world, an NDB approach was a last resort and definitely not fun!

Also when I learnt NDB tracking many years ago, most light aircraft were fitted with RBI's, Relative bearing indicators, the compass rose was fixed, with North at the top. Most aircraft in the sim have RMI's, Radio magnetic indicators, were the compass rose aligns to the magnetic heading. It was tougher to do NDB procedures with the RBI. Pilots I flew with who had learnt ADF tracking with an RMI, often struggled with an RBI, if you'd learnt on the RBI, the RMI was easy!

It's still possible to find RBI's in the sim, I've got a C150, and a C172 with RBI's, can't remember if they're stock, or payware? If I fancy a challenge, I try some approaches with those.

I started flying in the 1970s with the same type fixed card ADF. You got pretty good with it eventually. When I first got a RMI it was like dying and going to heaven. Add to that HSI. Absolutely glorious. The thought of GPS back then was a wet dream. Thought I'd hit the big time.

Wish I could get a map showing the ADF locations/info with this add-on then I'd buy. I'd be happy with a map of Canada only. Really enjoyed having an ADF capability.

Same here, I tried the authors suggestion for seeing how many NDB's showed up on a Little Nav Map search (MS2020), it came up with 7759 NDB's, a lot more than the 3400 suggested by the author. I'm sure the app will add to that, but probably not in the parts of the world I fly in.
