What has happend to msfs2020 ground textures?

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me what has happend to the groundtextures in msfs2020? I flew my normal route from EKCH to ESSA yesterday (in the LOVLEY recentley updated FENIX A320!!! What a true work of art that is!!! AMAZING!!!) and noticed a HUGE drop in groundtexturequality! It was almost like a "kickback" to the "good old" FSX/P3D days...

The groundtextures from above now appears in squares/blocks and looks blurry and diffuse. This was not the case a few days ago. I have mixed with msfs map enhancer, and other setting in the sim, but to no avail.

A few days ago the textures when crusing at fl370 from EKCH/ESSA was crystal clear! (with msfs map enhancer) almost like a sattelite photo, but now... A blurry, washed out blocky mess in distance...

Anyone know what/why this has happend and is there a fix?

Best regards

I do not care about any performance improvements where texture resolution is concerned. I would rather keep higher resolution textures.

Yes, but what does this mean? Are the current streamed Bing maps textures standard? If they are, then I have nothing to worry about. If they are currently high resolution (and I can expect a reduction

  • They degraded the graphics so the game worked on the Xbox, see SU5 when it all went backwards.

Are you in the SU16 beta?

Cheers, Ed

No

I did report an issue in the last version (8.0.3) that ground textures do not load properly in the distance ( this is with High LOD turned off).

This only affects Bing New maps.  And i tested it with both 15 and 16 and the problem affects both versions

I tried some other maps such as Mapbox and it seems to work fine

Ok! Thanks I will try with mapbox👍

If u go onto the github page there are previous versions that u can download

I dont have access to my PC at the moment

Try this one

https://github.com/derekhe/msfs2020-map-enhancement/releases/tag/8.2.11

If u could download one of them and test with New Bing Maps without any high LOD enabled  is the texture loading issue still occuring?

(Just want to add to my existing bug report)

On SU15 not the beta

Thanks

That sounds good!

After you download and install this version u may see something like this

Do not restart the app to update. Just go about and use the current version.

👍😃👍

Using version 8.2.11 of the Map Enhancement Tool works way better with Google Maps compared to the new Bing Maps (that I suppose were changed/"updated" by the MS gang in the background).

For the time being, I'm able to turn on the HIGH LOD images when flying, at least until the infamous SU16 is released which I hope it won't.

As said before, anyone can use this older version of the tool without updating.

NOTE: haven't tested yet with the new Bing Maps with this Map Enhancement Tool version (8.2.11) and HIGH LOD disabled. I suppose it won't work well, due to the new Bing Maps being the main issue at the moment. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers, Ed

Worked like a charm with the older version om map-enhancer! 👍👍👍(And I did NOT care about the update!) Then, on my "early bird jump" from EFTP to ESSA in Finnair FENIX A319, it was absolutley and simpley fantastic! The sim, butter and smooth like silk, the wievs from fl330 was again STUNNING!!! Approach into RW19L at ESSA, via HMR, this beuatiful morning, glanced out of the window to the left, switched to outisde wiev, and WOW WOW WOW!!! This is as real as it gets! Flying this fantasic FENIX Airbus, with map-enhancer, REX-atmos, frame-gen and auto-fps enabled is just beyond words!!! FANTASTIC!!!👍😍👍

Besr regards and thanks for Your tips on reverting back to older version of map-enhancer!!!👍

MET author (after understandable considerable backlash) amended latest version to auto detect your sim version to check for sd16 (sic).

If NOT installed you can keep using HIGH LOD if IS installed then HIGH LOD is disabled.

Unfortunally I guess that the workaround is temporary. When SU16 goes live we are all on low res.

But how about google maps? And what impact does those have on addon airports?

What exactly do we mean here by "low resolution"? Have Asobo downgraded the resolution of the terrain textures when using the normal Bing maps, or are we referring to some "even higher resolution" Map Enhancement mod texture option that I will never have seen?

That's exactly the question which is going around and I see no clear answer - only speculations.
