August 13, 2025Aug 13 Hi, Wonder if anyone can help. I'm running win 11 but my shortcut icons for starting both msfs 2020 and 2024 have changed to just white shortcuts. I can still start both sims but would like to get the proper icons back. I have the microsoft bought versions of both sims but I have no idea where the icons might be on my computer to replace the plain white ones. Can any one advise please. I don't like them along my taskbar Thanks Pete Little
August 13, 2025Aug 13 It happens to me also. If you start the Xbox app and select the sim you want, there's a small box with 3 dots. Left click the 3 dots' and select manage, then select "create desktop short cut. That should restore the icons. August 13, 2025Aug 13 Rebuild the Icon Cache: Open File Explorer: Press Windows Key + E. Navigate to the Icon Cache: Type %localappdata%\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Explorer in the address bar and press Enter. Delete Icon Cache Files: Locate and delete any files starting with "iconcache". These files might be hidden, so ensure you have "Show hidden files" enabled in File Explorer's View settings. Restart Explorer: Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), find Windows Explorer, right-click and select "Restart". Restart your computer: This will allow Windows to rebuild the icon cache Regards, Jan Ast Win 11 PC | Ryzen 7800 X3D | RTX 5080 | LG 42 C2 Cockpit 😉 | TrackIR 5 | Octavia IFR-1 | Virpil Alpha on WarBRD, Virpil CM3 Throttle, Virpil Sharka Control Panel | Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo | TM TPM Rudder
August 13, 2025Aug 13 Go to the XBox app and click on the My Library button on the left. Click on the relevant edition of MSFS and then click on the button displaying the three dots. Select Manage from the drop down menu. One of the choices will be CREATE DESKTOP SHORTCUT. There you go. EDIT: Or see the two responses above. August 13, 2025Aug 13 You may want to use a .bat file with the content below. I named it IconRepairCache.bat. I'm using it since many years. It repairs faulty icon symbols in nearly all cases. @echo off taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local DEL IconCache.db /a Start explorer.exe - Harry 9800x3D (Strix x870e-E) - 64GB RAM (DDR5 6000, CL 30) - RTX 5090, 34'' 1440p OLED HDR - Windows 11 Pro (1TB M.2) - MSFS 2024 (MS Store, 4TB M.2).
