The West Virginia Mothman.

Featured Replies

Sightings were reported in 1966-1967. Point Pleasant, West Virginia where the Ohio River and Kanahaw River meet. The Silver Bridge collapsed during that time killing over 40 people as cars crossing the bridge tumbled into the Ohio River. There's probably 40 to 50 videos on Youtube about the Mothman of West Virginia. A recent one:

I've seen the giant Sandhill Cranes here in California, same birds as in West Virginia. I've seen maybe 10 to 20 of them at the same time up close resting in a tree from time to time. And then they all fly. Never did they seem to look humanoid, they just looked like birds. They were huge. And protected by law.

Never more than say 5 or 6 in one tree. But with several trees close together there sometimes were a dozen or twenty altogether. Nothing spooky about them, but there were quiet and very still, even if you were trying to shew them into flight.

When I was a volunteer at Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge I would help count the sandhill cranes around sunup when they took off to feed in  neighboring farm fields.  There were typically four of us counting, each at a different point in the refuge.  We would typically count between 9 and 12 thousand cranes in a morning.  None of them ever looked humanoid.

Looking at that statue of mothman I would estimate it to weigh between 170 and 180 pounds if it had a human anatomy and bone structure.  There is no way the breast muscles could flap those wings to lift that weight.  Mothman would need enormous breast muscles to achieve flight.  15 to 25% of a birds weight is in the breast muscles.  If mothman had a body weight of 170 pounds his breast muscles would have to weight 25 to over 40 pounds.  That's assuming it flew like a bird.

The photos shown don't look like any sandhill crane and I've seen thousands of them at one time or another.

Motman would have to have a mothfather and mothmother and perhaps mothsiblings.  What kind of habitat would it need to survive in?  What would it's diet consist of?

Like bigfoot and the abominable snow man we need more than grainy photographs and in the case of bigfoot more than footprints.  We need something tangible to scrape some DNA from.

Mothman and bigfoot are fun things to think about and even chase.  But where's the evidence.

Maybe it’s a community desperate to attract tourists.

Roswell, New Mexico statue is a fake! Point Pleasant statue is a lifelike image of an alien from space! Red eyes! Flies along on big wings!

The Merced River runs over Yosemite falls. It joins the Stanislaus River and dumps into the Pacific Ocean. Where the rivers join, the SandHill cranes gather. Perhaps the birds jabber amongst themselves and call to the Mothman from space to come and perform their will in West Virginia. Important hero stuff, like flying alongside a pickup truck that is carrying a frightened couple speeding along the highway, trying to reach Point Pleasant in safety.

Mothman is quite a sight, running along the rode beside cars at 100 miles per hour! Obviously, an important mission!

Mothra is associated with a race of miniature fairy people known as the Shobijin, who can telepathically communicate with Mothra and can translate the creature's thoughts to mortals. The Shobijin are generally seen as two twin fairies, who have also been referred to as the Cosmos. Mothra is very protective of the Shobijin and will attack a major city if one of them is threatened.

I was educating my staff on the Mothman based on this thread, one of the girls said this is exactly why she wants to visit the USA someday, to visit small towns like Point Pleasant WV to see stuff like Mothman, she is right only in America can you see stuff like that 🤣

They also said some of the artwork would make for great tattoos 👾

Edit: I will admit the Statue is pretty cool...

I've taken several motorcycle trips through West Virginia, Beautiful!  Never saw the Mothman, but I did almost get taken out by a Turkey Buzzard.  It was standing on the side of the road and decided to launch itself into flight just as I rode by.  I had to duck to avoid it hitting my head.  Probably missed me by a couple of inches.

I have taken out the Mothman several times in Fallout 76😁
