August 24, 2025Aug 24 Is anyone using this (MSFS Global Power Lines - Orbx)? Is it different from: 1. Puffin Flight's "We Love VFR" (We Love VFR - Region 2 for Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS) or 2. Mamudesign's "Powerlines and Solar Farms" (Powerlines and Solar Farms for Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS)? Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space. Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).
August 24, 2025Aug 24 I'm pretty sure #1 is now included by default in 2024. August 24, 2025Aug 24 I have scene radio towers in MSFS 2024 but can't see the lighting on the towers.
August 24, 2025Aug 24 tried it and removed it the minute I tried it. to much clutter and overdone. they towers stuck out like a sore thumb in the scenery. Just my opinion. Win 11 pro 64Bit, X670 AORUS ELITE AX, Ryzen 7 7800x3d, RTX 4080, 64Gig G-Skill 6000 DDR 5, Samsung 990 pro 2TB NVME.

Doesn't answer my question though if the payware objects themselves significantly improved from the default. @christb Too much clutter? How so, the description state that it does not add objects?... It replaces the default MSFS power tower models with higher-quality versions but relies on MSFS/Asobo’s streaming data for placement and direction." August 25, 2025Aug 25 "Doesn't answer my question though if the payware objects themselves significantly improved from the default" In my honest opinion, yes, some of the towers you can choose from look much better, some are more basic. The Global Power Lines by Orbx replaces the generic power tower models in the sim. This product comes with a utility to select between 14 variations of low power lines and 60 variations of high power lines. You can only select one low power line and one high power line at any one time. Some of these towers have power lines, and some are only the towers. They range from simple looking towers to very complex looking towers. The ones with power lines attached has one big issue, and that is that the power lines don't always connect between the towers. Sometimes they overlap, sometimes they are a slightly different direction, and sometimes they don't quite reach each other. I always use the ones that have power lines, and it doesn't really bother me that they don't always connect correctly. I usually don't fly close enough to see that they don't connect. From normal flying they look great. I feel they are closer to the correct size compared to "We Love VFR" and Mamudesign's "Powerlines and Solar Farms". For the most part, the spacing seems pretty accurate as well, though there are areas where I've seen way too many towers. Having flown many cross country flights in southwester Ohio in real life, I've noticed just how complex power line networks can be. In some ares there are tons of powerlines running everywhere, while in other ares not so many. The Global Power Lines product replicates this better than the other products in my opinion. I no longer use "We Love VFR" since the sims come with those objects by default now. I still use Mamudesign's "Powerlines and Solar Farms", as you get lots of variations of towers depending on the regions you are flying in without needing to run a utility to change to a different variation when you move to a different region. And Mamu's towers look very detailed, and the power lines always run the proper direction and always connects. But I also still use the Global Power lines by Orbx. I feel their towers are closer to the proper size, and the networks of towers look more like what I see in real life, in my opinion. I do lose a little bit of performance with Mamu's, but not enough to stop me from using them. I don't notice any performance loss with the Orbx product, even when used by itself. I feel they both compliment each other. I haven't noticed anywhere that looks like they duplicate each other, meaning I don't see one's towers laid on top of the other, though I'm sure there will be areas that do. Where I have seen both in the same area, they look natural, being laid side by side. So it doesn't stand out as being incorrect. 32GB DDR4 3200Mhz i7-9700K RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6
August 25, 2025Aug 25 Mamudesign’s is far superior and well worth the additional money. I refunded the Orbx product.
August 25, 2025Aug 25 Also Mamudesign’s Ski Lift pack is well worth the money. His Marinas pack is good too, but I don’t consider it an essential like the Powerlines and Ski Lifts.

August 26, 2025Aug 26 Any interest that I had in this product vanished when I discovered that the powerlines only extend a short distance from each tower. If you are going to include powerlines with your 3D electricity pylon models, then they need to be done properly. August 27, 2025Aug 27 I prefer Mamudesign's over Orbx's Global Power Lines. Not only are their towers more varied but their power lines, marked by red and yellow balloons, are well visible and are real objects. You touch them, you crash! I tested it on the power lines crossing the valley between Morgins and Châtel in the Swiss alps. Regards, Andreas Gutzwiller
