NEW GSX Update 3.7.2

Featured Replies

Have done 5 flights now re-trying out GSX.  The first 3 went quite well.  Pushback went well enough on all 5.  Integration with my fav addon SLC went fair on 3 flights, and the other two got weird in spots but that may in part be my forgetting some issues between the two.  Even though I setup SLC to use GSX for door management, prior to the end of loading the door shut itself and I have no idea why.  And this kind of thing in the shot below which just now happened at ENBR is just another reason why I hope Asobo takes on development of essentially a 'GSX Lite' w/ reliable pushback and pax loading provided of course they have better access to critical data than is available to Umberto.  I will try to hunt down a profile for this purchased airport, but I fly into a lot of foreign to me airports so not practical nor do I wish to spend time hunting down solutions to deal with the fact GSX is hamstrung in this basic area.  I've always said Umberto likely is doing the best anyone could given these limitations.  Very sad these marching animations can't track the actual jetway, instead of locators of where it's supposed to be or however it works.  Perhaps pax would have walked in the jetway were this a default airport?

So my plan will be essentially to try using GSX primarily for pushback and look for profiles for commonly used airports.   Never want pax walking into the cabin nor cleanup crews after.  As long as we don't get stuck in couatl issues for startup that is my plan going forward.

I’m astonished at the lack of gratitude shown to a developer who has given us one of the most useful utility in many years. Criticism is unwarranted especially when no extra charge has been made.

Jetways don’t have taxi-line references, no idea how Umberto figures out path process for a Jetway that can extended to different locations … let alone the height and grade of the Jetway.  I can’t find anything in the SDK that identifies any sort of pathing vector for jetways a product like GSX could use … perhaps the airport developers provide some sort of data GSX can use?

Salvuz.  It was the more preferred option in the Market where I bought it on sale.

Imagine a sim without GSX.

I used 2024 for six months w/o GSX and TBH it was a relief for me at the time and I was a veteran user in P3D and in 2020 for years.  Most of my focus is on getting all the pre-flight and flight execution as close to perfect as possible for score in SLC.  Clean, simple pushbacks just using default but of course....a bit lean as well, hence we're re-trying GSX now.  The coup de grace was the couatl startup issues that occurred too often back then.  Sounds like this piece has improved according to Umberto now, and so far we're 5 for 5 working basically.

there's a few GSX profiles on fsto, one of those might fix the jetway issue.

Yep I found one, went to the same gate, and all was well, thanks.  Are there other sites w/ unique profiles do you know?

IniBuilds also offers some. Neatly searchable through their IniManager. Mostly for the airports they sell on their store.

The advantage is that they can be installed with a simple click and no need to copy them into the appdatafolder yourself.

I currently happily use the Gaya KDEN and can't find a profile for it.  What tools does one use to make a profile?  It might be a fun activity to do it for the very few gates I use there and not too onerous.  I'll try a few pushbacks first and see if we may already be good enough.

Cheers

None. It's all done in GSX yourself.

Read the manual.

Since I got GSX for the A321, I prefer to buy airports that include an 'official' GSX profile.

That seems like a fantastic idea if there are actually devs doing that.  I went to see if Propair's KBJC offered one and on Discord they said no plans to do that.  Seems like a very tall order but one that might attract more buyers so will help pay for the effort it takes.  I wonder, is building profiles a task for AI?  Seems like it could be.

Possibly, but it would take considerable training effort ... AI doesn't just magically work because it's not really AI (Artificial Intelligence).  It can be useful and I use it frequently, but it is over hyped.  The cost to feed it the "correct" data sources and how to interpret patterns (key) would far exceed any ROI.  Decision trees and pattern recognition is stretching the limits of justification in call something "AI" ... today's AI it's really "Narrow AI" and not AGI (Artificial General Intelligence ... across all domains doesn't currently exist).

Most of the better devs do so. Inibuilds does. MK does as well. It's just something that is best done by the developer of the airport as they can easily keep it updated.

9800X3d, 4090, 64 GB DDR5 6000 RAM, 4 TB NVME (2x2), 4K Ultra + Framegen

inibuilds' scenery profiles are done by RWProfiles most of the time. Which is funny, considering inibuilds got their start making GSX profiles. That's what the 'ini' in their name is for.

This is also the type of thing that usually requires some degree of local knowledge.  For example, I wouldn't expect Umberto to know that at Gate 102 at KEWR you get pushed back then rotated 180 degrees then pulled forward to the hold designator and there are 3 depending on wing size...  777 uses the dashed lines for example.

To think Umberto is going to have this type of knowledge at every airport let alone just add-on airports is completely unrealistic.
