Can't imagine the terror and disbelief of the pilots.  Thank God they're both alive.

Kind of reminds me of the tragic death of Army Ranger and former NFL player Pat Tillman.

also reminded me of  when they mistakenly shot down the civilian aircraft thinking it was  hostile aircraft flying towards them

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱

Ummm... I still have a question that was not answered in that article.  U.S. military aircraft are equipped with IFF systems, how is it that the IFF signal was ignored?

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Seems they had multiple issues with their radar, Link 16 and IFF systems.

That is a far more in-depth article.  Yes, a failure with some of the technology, but also failures with training and also a break down in the chain of command and personnel.

As our technology gets more complicated and refresher training more limited due to extended and/or expanded operations these kinds of episodes are bound to happen.

When I was a Marine during the Korean war we toted an M-1 Garand, a cartridge belt, a first aid kit and a canteen.  I look at today's infantryman and I see a gaggle of equipment hanging from their shoulders, belts and helmets and I wonder if I could handle all that technology and equipment.

The more options you have the more things can go wrong.  It's incumbent on the manufacturers to exercise the ultimate in quality control when manufacturing these systems; on the best possible training for the operators of these weapons and systems; and on the rapid repairing of down systems including easy removal and replacement of a marginally operating system.  Doing without for a while ceases to be an option in today's combat arena.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Thank you for serving for us Noel.  👍to all veterans.

I think you nailed it perfectly, Noel.

From reading about the Vietnam war, doesn't the expression 'fragging' imply that he was killed deliberately by his own comrades?

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

That's affirmative!  The military tries to "soften" it a bit by saying "Friendly fire".

Deliberately kill (an unpopular senior officer) with a hand grenade.

Yes, but the term "fragging" isn't the same. Fragging is deliberate, as @Delta111 points out. Friendly fire is inadvertent or accidental.

Are you saying Pat Tillman was killed deliberately by his comrades, or are you using the term 'fragging' in error ?

IMHO  he was done in by his own troops!  It happened a lot in Viet Nam with over-zealous company and platoon
leaders who volunteered their men for all of the dangerous missions.
