December 8, 2025Dec 8 Since I stated using XP12, I have had what I guess would be called standard addons - SimHeaven, Global Forests and ortho. In the last few days I haven't been able to complete a single flight because XP12 is crashing. Looking at the Log file I see many messages about a RunLoop - Runloop is backed up. Current task count: 495, estimated runtime: 23.938s I see a lot of errors reported from SimHeaven regarding roads missing. So I decided to install a fresh XP12. I then installed SimHeaven USA and Global Forests (freshly downloaded), with Ortho4XP v1.4 zoom level 16 tiles between departure/arrival airports. No plugins were installed. The same result on the first flight - a crash shortly after take off with the errors as above. No other way to find the problem. And none of those are standard addons. Dont use any.

December 8, 2025Dec 8 Yes, your test was not valid. You need to test with ZERO add-ons, then starting adding them back one at a time and test each time you add one. If you crash on a virgin base install, then you go in the direction of hardware, drivers, etc. If you do NOT crash on a virgin base install, then you go the one add-on a time and test route. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. - Carl Sagan

A bit too late, except for future reference: since 2017, I have never had to reinstall XP for anything other than a new computer or parallel Beta. while XP will CtD once in a blue moon, the few repeating problems I’ve had have all come from misbehaving plugins or addons. Disabling 3rd party stuff has always been the immediately successful path to resolution for me 🤙 And fwiw, the same holds true in the other sims I use. 😎

Thanks. I am now flying successfully with a vanilla XP12 install. Strange though, because SimHeaven and Global Forests seem to be pretty standard addons in the community. At least I am OK with nothing added to XP12 because I have to get my XP12 fix daily because of scenes like this... December 9, 2025Dec 9 For testing bunch of add-ons, instead of add back one by one, just do it half then half, narrow down fairly quickly if the fault happens reliably

SH and GF are indeed rather “safe” addons (at least they’ve never given me any issues). my favorite troubleshooting trick is to simply undo whatever change was last made Since you’ve had success with SH and GF previously, it may be all that new ortho you created, or maybe a subtle scenery order conflict (idk - just throwing it out as food for thought)
December 9, 2025Dec 9 12.3.3 just released, and it fixes crashes due to object instantiation using the SDK, which sounds suspiciously similar to your problem. Flew a 3h 30 minute flight with no crash. Installed LiveTraffic Plugin. 3 hours in to the same 3h 30 minute flight, XP12 crashes at the point it is saving to the Log_ATC.txt file! Investigating that I find out it is a known bug with injected LiveTraffic, even though I was not using the ATC system in XP12 - it remains active. So even though my system is no slouch, it crashes with the Map Enhancement tool or ortho tiles from Ortho4XP. It crashes if SimHeaven, Global Forests and Ortho are in use due to overloaded VRAM with a 4090. Now I can't inject LiveTraffic aircraft - even with a clean system? Incredibly frustrating to say the least! Incredibly frustrating to say the least! YIKES!!! 😖 but there’s gotta be something in the mix… my system is relatively modest - an old Ryzen 5600X and a 4070. I use SH, GF and custom ortho, too. or Orbx TrueEarth HD in some areas. plus always some Hi Fi payware addon… VERY stable for me. but I’ll note that I never fly for more than 2 hours, either.
