Friday morning rant

Featured Replies

I was just looking through various items coming up on my PC and a couple caught my eye, as they were recipes for Christmas treats.

However, I gave up after 10 seconds. Why?

Because they were ruddy videos.

Am I one of a few people left who prefer to read instructions, instead of following pictures and listening to someone waffling on for 5 minutes over stuff that I could absorb in one or two at the most?

Maybe I am just getting old.

Happy Christmas.

And they call these people who make the videos....Influencers!  I haven't been influenced in a long time! 😵‍💫

If you are looking on YouTube for holiday treat recipes and are now frustrated, I'd recommend watching/listening to this recipe video.

I kinda like getting recipes from Allrecipes.com as they have all sorts of information besides just the recipe.  Shopping lists, nutrition counts in many cases, as well as a video for those who need it. The recipes are generally in a couple of different formats.

Heck, Google AI will give you decent recipes too if you ask.

One of my pet peeves is when a person hosts a meeting and read the slides to me when I can do that myself. I'm old school and prefer to read instructions if they are clear. In those videos you mention, they will spend minutes yacking or talking about one item too long and refuse to get to the point. Videos and pictures come in handy when there is an action I need to take. Such as, remove these three bolts or rotate the fan to this position. Other than that, I prefer to read it.

"Influencers".  To me, another example of what's old is now new.  Like sanitation workers used to be garbage men, or flight attendants used to be stewardesses.  So what were influencers?

Carnival barkers!  That's all.  Same game:  fleece the rubes.  It's the same old song.

Influencers = paid shills

I am sure that is true for at least some of them.
