We, the virtual aviators, never stop dreaming…🙂

TBH, similar “What if” scenarios have crossed my mind too in many instances.

I think that after Fenix releases the VNAV update it wont be a dream anymore.

fwiw, it's been discussed. The issue with A300 is it's an older codebase that would require significant rework which just isn't possible at this stage.  despite that, we bring it up in discussion of

  • Lots of us A300-600 lovers out here.  +1 to the idea of the Honeywell Primus Epic cockpit planes, like what UPS has.  It would be so cool to make I would think.

Dont let her die 😕 Do a modernized version (Like the UPS ones maybe?) and charge for it

I seem to recall that when inibuilds launched the A300, they said that they were going to do a version with the avionics that UPS has for their fleet. It was going to be a paid upgrade.

That would be so nice.

FedEx was another major A300/A310 operator that had significantly modernized the cockpits of these workhorse freighters, that seemingly kept (keep) going for ever.

FedEx still has about 50 300s in service, but I miss seeing their 310s. In a clear blue sky above O’Hare, I could often see the unmistakeable (and stockier) A310s in FedEx colors, now gone along with their MD-11s for the moment. I hear they might be bringing back the MD-11s by this spring/summer.

To still have these freighters flying in our virtual skies…especially in authentic recreations, is indeed welcome.

Cheers…!

I really hope so, but as UPS have now decided to retire their MD-11 fleet and accelerate fleet replacement (with 767Fs), I have a feeling that Fedex will follow suit and also decide not to bring back their MD-11s.

There's such a negative perception of the MD-11 now, after the terrible UPS accident last year. It's a real shame because if Western Global make the same decision, that'll be it - no more MD-11s in the sky. Retired for good 😔

Is a negative perception very relevant here though?  I mean, it's not like it's a pax airliner anymore.  And parcel freight has no opinion.   Maybe people on the ground dodging falling parts might care?  Most people don't know the difference between a 767 and an MD-11 though.

If the MD-11 is fleet-wide withdrawn, it won't be over negative perception, but rather a sadly-convenient escape path to retire an aged, relatively fuel-hungry plane that would have been retired in a few years anyway.

I completely agree.

The negative perception isn't rational or justifed.  But it still exists, IMHO.

iniBuilds A350 Update v1.2.1

I finally got to test this evening my updated A350 (v1.2.1) for the first time, along with a bit of happy news ...

I set up an ultra-long-haul flight (Chicago/KORD -> Singapore/WSSS), of ~8000 nautical miles, somewhat hypothetical, because there is really no (RW) direct flight between this city pair. See, my first screenshot below, which shows that a SAS 359 left Chicago O'Hare this (Friday) evening destined for Copenhagen, from which (layover) airport, a SIA 359, will then complete the 2nd leg of the journey to Singapore.

I'm into ~4 hours flight now, at FL 360. I've set Sim Rate 4X (see final shot below, where the Sim Rate is clearly and conveniently shown on the top edge of the EFB). All is well, so far, and I've faith that this (marathoner) A350-900-ULR will continue on w/o issue...though I'm a bit tired after a long week, and will probably end the flight in another hour so, to start afresh another time...

Here are my 5 screenshots below:

  1. FlightAware 1-stop RW flight en-route this evening (ORD->CPH->SIN).
  2. SIA A350-900-ULR with marking "10,000th Airbus Aircraft" cruising along at FL360 into ~3 hours of flight.
  3. All is well in the flightdeck along with the HUD for comfort.
  4. My ever-attentive First Officer...🙂...
  5. The iniBuilds A350 EFB showing 4X Sim Rate.

Hope you too have good success with this ultra-modern A350...!

Cheers...!

I am flying the TBM 850 atm but eventually I am going to learn this plane. I just have to get through the TBM, Citation X and Fenix first. Looking forward to it!

Take it slow and easy, Rob, as you progress through these things…that’s the way to enjoy…

They said they’re still thinking about it, but A300 code is pretty old now compared to their newer aircraft

A350 v1.2.1 (wrap-up of my test flight):

Flew longer than the diameter of earth and the longest of my (virtual) career...

Yes, with this Airbus A350-900-ULR (see my earlier comment), today I went on to finish my epic journey of 9,400 miles, from (KORD) Chicago O'Hare to (WSSS) Singapore Changi Airport...non-stop...! Earth's diameter being appx. 7,900 miles; indeed, I flew 1,500 miles more than the diameter of the earth in this flight. This is also the longest I've ever flown in the sim.

Actually, I wasn't planning on carrying on from last evening, but when I got up at 4:30am for a drink of water, I noticed the (diehard) A359-URL suspended in flight, eager to continue. So, I couldn't resist its call. While noting the bitter cold outside temperature to be 10 °F (for folks in EU, -12 °C), I brewed myself a strong cup of Coffee, from fresh-ground Frech Roast beans...🙂... and resumed the flight with about 5,000 miles still to go.

The A359-ULR, the Xbox, and I, together as a team, survived the endurance test. Please find 5 images below, as my A350, guided by its competent ILS system, touches down gently on Runway 20C of Singapore Airport, off Changi Bay.

There were occasional (and momentary but auto-recoverable) freezes at 4X Sim Rate, but no cockpit-blackout, no orange (WASM) screens, nor any other (apparent) issues (subject to my limited domain of knowledge). This A359-URL has now become a good friend of mine, and I've also developed new respect for those pilots that do such ultra-long-hauls in the RW...at 1X ...🙂...

(I'll post a fuller account with more pictures, in the Screenshots Forum).

Cheers...!

Folks:

I just posted a fuller account of this ultra-long-haul flight with the Airbus A350-900-ULR, in the Screenshots Forum, if you wish to inspect and read some additional details...

Cheers... and happy flying...!
