February 3Feb 3 In the past it was a start/stop process of reading the PMDG docs/manuals. But with the online manuals, I’ve spent more free time reading what PMDG gave me for $75 … and frankly I’m blown away. Snippets: I didn’t even know “physiological comfort” was a thing on a 737. Had no idea … absolutely didn’t know. Again, seriously … is this actually modeled? Dang, variable delay in engagement due to pressurization. Another thing to try … No idea what a BITE test is? Anyone? Live real-time load usage for all the systems?! And I’m not even 1/2 way thru the first document of three. Impressive … looking forward to learning more about my $75 expenditure. February 3Feb 3 PMDG always has excellent documentation, as far back as I can recall, whether we (virtual) flyers do justice to it, is another matter. I still have a hard-copy of the 440 page PMDG MD-11 manual lying around somewhere, one, I’d pored over more than my normal….🙂… Of course, these days, everything is digital. Enjoy…and make best of it…!

Built In Test Equipment https://www.aviationhunt.com/boeing-737-bite-test/#:~:text=BITE tests are typically initiated by maintenance, reducing troubleshooting time and improving maintenance efficiency. It's a bit like plugging an OBD reader into your car, to see what the onboard diagnostics have logged, as potential faults or problems. But nothing needs to be plugged in as BITE test results are interfaced via the MFD. Maintenance crews will check BITE results, to identify items that may be required for MEL consideration. February 3Feb 3 Author PMDG should create several scaled tests in the EFB, if you pass the tests, they unlock new features, or future aircraft discounts or something along those lines. Not only would it get folks understanding all the work that was put into the simulated aircraft, it would reward them. If so, a decent one…though I admit to know of only the other one, out of respect for the developer… This thread is about PMDG documentation, and how the OP is enjoying reading it, not just skimming it as some of us do…🙂…

Mea culpa. It was just too tempting. But again, back to OP. I admit I probably never read a manual so dilligently and only ad hoc when dealing with colorful lights going on when they should be off. Nowadays I rather google and would never find let alone appreciate those subtle details. February 3Feb 3 I'm sorry to say this, but I have never heard of damaging the FCC in any Boeing airplane by applying force to the controls while the AP is on. As a norm, if you apply sustained pressure beyond a certain threshold (usually around 5-10 lbs of force for several seconds), a clutch or torque sensor in the system detects this conflict and automatically disengages the autopilot. A warning sounds, and you have full manual control. The idea that you could “damage the FCC” by overriding controls with the AP engaged is intriguing. I suppose any strategy is valid if it helps sell a product. 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.
February 3Feb 3 Enjoying the PMDG Karens with their non-stop grudge fest. "I am owed a new simulator version for free without question, and those updates better be on my schedule. And better sound like a youtube video as YT is the definitive source. Don't they understand how important I am? Why do they ignore me?" Opening a whine bar in MSFS2024.
February 4Feb 4 PMDG has spend considerable time developing extremely detailed models for Boeing which I think are used in actual training for prospective actual users. I guess this attention to detail is modeled in their sim products. Jump in and fly only scratches the surface of the model. James M Driskell, Maj USMC (Ret)

February 4Feb 4 Interesting discussion! For those who are new (ie started simming in the last 10 years or so) PMDG was a company that originally published and sold manuals, ie detailed documentation to use with flight simulators (I think for the 747?). It was only later when they were well known for their manuals that they started to build aircraft for the simulator.

Their first move into aircraft modelling was the 757 for the ill-fated "Fly!" simulator. I owned them all. Edited February 4Feb 4 by DavidP David Porrett
