February 19Feb 19 Are we polluting the atmosphere for exploration. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpd8z4eqlxno Raymond Fry.
February 20Feb 20 Every time a rocket or missile is launched it pollutes the atmosphere, but I don't hear anyone complaining about it. Same thing with business jets and multi-million dollar luxury motorhomes, yachts, and tour busses, but, again, few complain about that. There's a lot of hypocrisy to go around. Someone's managed to convince the Little People that they have to give up everything, eat bugs, use paper straws, but the aristocracy simply ignores these rules. It's only when someone is a major polluter but also tells us we have to stop producing carbon that it becomes hypocrisy of the highest order. There's always somebody complaining that a celebrity jets around in a business jet. As for the rocket launches. Not currently an issue given the small number that fail and burn up. And hopefully after SpaceX's developmental phase Starship will be as reliable as Falcon 9.

I sure don't. The blame, if any, should be placed on those who made you believe that flying on business jets is bad, especially if they're flying on their own business jet at the time. I sure don't. My nephew (stepbrother's son) was a naval aviator, flying (I think) F-18s. When he got out of the Navy, he got into commercial aviation. The last I heard, a few years ago, he was flying a private jet for a businessman. Now, that sounds like a great job to have! 😄 He was looking for a pilot job with an airline. Not sure where he is now. Ain't nuthin' wrong with private jets. 🙂 37 minutes ago, stans said: Ohhhhhh, this is going to be a good one! IBTL. 😁 I think we're good. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! February 20Feb 20 How about another great story? Harrison Ford learned to fly from the pilot of his private jet. Now, tell me this isn't the greatest job in the world! Ford eventually bought a Beaver, made a few videos. In the movie "Six Days Seven Nights" he plays a Beaver pilot. You know, you just know, that he's a real life pilot/mechanic when he bangs a knuckle in the movie. 😄 If I ever met the guy in real life, I'd tell him this was my favorite role. February 20Feb 20 When William Shatner did his space tourism thingy, I don't remember anyone complaining. In fact, they were cheering him on! But then, he didn't come back and demand we all eat bugs while he dined on Wagyu beef. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Yes, there's certainly a high CO2 cost per passenger in terms of private jets, but by the same token we do have to be realistic and consider that some business people have such crazy travel schedules that always taking commercial flights would be very difficult, if not impossible. Then we have security implications. There are some that would be rendered less safe on a commercial flight. I mean, imagin sitting in an A320 and King Charles is sitting next to you, ain't going to happen. We would hope, though, that such individuals that feel they have no other way to get around that fits in with their business travel or security requirements, try to limit their emmisions in other ways. And the end of the day, everybody has a different carbon footprint dependent on their wealth and occupation, so rather than telling rich people to give up their big homes and catch the bus to work, its more about asking everybody to make the changes that are feasible for them.

It's the stuff that's still up there! 😄 Hook Yeah, from what I recall the negative aspect of the ozone hole is more about zapping those below with UV. The ozone hole can shift wind circulation, I recall. Its a lot smaller now though, thanks to the CFC reduction. Its expected to disappear by the end of the century
February 20Feb 20 Given the amount of hair spray used in the 70's, I'm not at all surprised it had an effect on the ozone layer! 😄 😄 Hook Edited February 20Feb 20 by LHookins Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
