March 18Mar 18 Folks: Today, I subjected the (iniBuilds) A350 to the ultimate endurance test, mimicking the Qantas "Project Sunrise" flights proposed to launch direct Sydney-London service in early 2027. Qantas will use a specially modified Airbus A350-1000ULR for Project Sunrise flights, which are designed for nonstop journeys of (unprecedented) magnitudes in commercial aviation: ~11,000 miles and ~22 hours. This will be also probably the only time normal folks (like you and I) may cross two barriers together for the first time: 10,000 miles distance and 20 hours airtime. (My own closest to 20-hours was a ~19-hours flight in an AA 777). iniBuilds has replicated all the three A350 variants in MSFS, that are currently in service in RW: A350-900 (base), A350-900ULR (the a/c of choice for my test flight here), and A350-1000 (not ULR). [Side Note: A350F Freighter, the 4th A350 type, is expected to enter service soon. The well-regarded cargo carrier, Atlas Air, who, you may recall was the one to receive the very last built 747 Jumbo (a 747-8F), will be the primary customer of the A350F, with 20 units ordered.] Until iniBuilds comes up with the A350-1000ULR variant, I've put, for now, my A350-900ULR variant, the longest range A350 in the iniBuilds line-up, and also among the A350s in RW service, into this rigorous test flight. We hope to see iniBuilds add the types, A350-1000ULR and the A350F, into their line-up in future. Anyway, taking advantage of an unseasonably bitter cold (-7 °C) and snowy "Spring Day" here today, I chose to stay indoors to fly 11,000 miles in 22 hours airtime (the flight duration was actually shortened to 22/4x Sim Rate = 5.5 hours of family time...🙂...) ... With a 10pm local departure from YSSY/Sydney, my ultra-long-haul-flight today, as predicted for the "Project Sunrise", offered me the (unreal) opportunity to witness 2 sunrises and 1 sunset (all magnificent; from FL350) in the same flight. 1st sunrise over the Pacific Ocean; I believe, before I got near the Hawaiian Islands; I'm flying eastward here, per SimBrief suggested Flight Plan 1st sunset over the U.S. Rocky Mountains 2nd sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean; south of Greenland; before final arrival into EGLL/London Heathrow The two significant landfalls, I encountered on my route, was first, at North America, near Los Angeles (flew over LAX VOR; see shot); and then the final one across the Irish Sea, at United Kingdom, into the airspace over Liverpool and Manchester (see shot). Once there, breathing a (huge) sigh of relief, and thanking iniBuilds silently...🙂..., I then flew on for the final stretch to land on EGLL/Heathrow ILS Runway 27L. The A350-900ULR has a max range of about 10,000 miles, but my distance being about 11,000 miles, I have taken recourse to a bit of (magical) mid-flight re-fueling...🙂..., as soon as I caught sight of the (dreaded) low-fuel indications on the ECAM displays. Otherwise, the iniBuilds (A359ULR) passed this endurance test with admirable tenacity; smooth and steady flight at FL350 throughout, at 4x sim rate, except for 1x during the climb and descent phases. This marathoner is leading me to (virtual) frontiers that I have never imagined before in this hobby...🙂...and may not even IRL... Below, are sample images. I will try to post a fuller account along with more pictures, in the Screenshots Forum later. I flew Air France here, because I did not find a QT livery for the A359ULR. [Note: The Airbus A350-1000ULR for Qantas’ Project Sunrise is currently in advanced stage of production, with the first unit undergoing ground testing and the second entering final assembly in early 2026. Delivery of the first aircraft is scheduled for late 2026, with commercial flights from Sydney to London/New York expected to begin in early 2027. If interested, please take a look at this (3min 26s) You Tube Video for more information, search for "Qantas' Very First Airbus A350-1000ULR Nears Completion."] Happy flying...with whatever SIM and whatever aircraft...you're flying at the moment...and it's OK if you don't like this one, but this is the only (virtual) Airbus A350 we have got now and may be the last one for some of us here...🙂...! Plus, occasionally, it helps to go beyond the mechanics and systems of it all and think about the real-world (amazing) aircraft that this virtual one stands for...! Cheers ...!

Multiple orders of magnitude difference in the complexity between the aircraft that Carenado produces and the ultra-modern (ultra-long-haul) airliners that iniBuilds produces, and I'm certainly glad it's not Carenado that's producing the A350...🙂... I would not be able to use Carenado to do the flight I did yesterday, so, I'm thankful. Edited March 18Mar 18 by P_7878

March 18Mar 18 Very impressive flight analyses of the A350.I haven't made that distance it the plane yet. I think the longest trek for me was 8 to 9 hours across Africa. Very beautiful visual ground scenery. Arriving at HECA Cario Egypt. I'm personally looking forward to a freighter model and 1000ULR. I actually flown my A350 flight in real time. For the A359, I had M02 for cruise fuel bias in Simbrief. I’ve done a few hundred hours with that and fuel burn was within 1,000lbs for all length on f flights. After this update, fuel burn was much higher than predicted. Eric

If continue reading this thread you will see I posted about this and that this another bug this apparenly untested update introduced.

Yea, saw that after the fact. I see the released another update. It says it fixes “inaccurate fuel burn predictions”. Vague. Did they just adjust what the fuel prediction shows us on the MCDU or did they actually adjust the fuel flow parameters within the aircraft configuration back to what it was prior? Eric

Very nice post @P_7878. @Bigmack Appreciated the kind words. I always read your comments with interest…🙂… Yes, the A350 is such a novel airliner in our SIM, flyable (and enjoyable) for any durations of our own choice. I respect people who fly at 1x. However, currently, in my life, it’s not possible to do 20-hour flights at 1x…maybe one day, when I expect to have more time…🙂…I do slow down to 1x for the sunrise and sunset experiences, that appear to be such divine moments …🙂…, especially from such a high altitude. Flying along (virtually) across the seemingly endless Pacific Ocean, at night, while keeping watch over the PFD tapes and the green symbols of the HUD, despite this HUD being not accurate enough, gives me a unique feeling, not achievable otherwise in our SIM…🙂… Enjoy the ground level visuals with your A350, whenever possible. I could clearly make out the Sierra Nevadas and the Rockies, while I overflew the west coast of U.S. here, noting that I might have passed over your LA neighborhood…🙂… Cheers…!

Hi: Though the fuel burn was not a factor for my ultra-long-haul exercise, due to expected fuel-exhaustion issues here, I refrained from using the v1.2.3, to stay out of trouble. I do see that a v1.2.4 is now out. I will test the A350 in a shorter flight, with that latest update next.

March 18Mar 18 From ini staff on v1.2.4 fuel burn: It's been reverted back to 1.2.1's predictions and fuel flow so it should be as you are used to Eric
