March 29Mar 29 This is very much a "I was today years old when I learned..." thing. Since moving to 2024 the sim loads much more quickly than 2020 did, just as advertised. What surprised me though was how long it was taking me to actually load a flight from the Free Flight screen. It was taking forever to load in the airport diagram to choose a start spot, and even longer afterwords to load in the plane and airport and be ready to fly. I mean, ridiculously, frustratingly long. The problem was my TLOD setting, which I had set at 300. I reduced this to an arbitrarily low value and suddenly the load performance I was expecting for the actual flight was there. A huge change. And in my case, the setting is meaningless anyway. I use Auto_FPS which will change things based on the parameters I have set there, so making this change cost me nothing. Everyone else on the planet probably knew this already, but just in case there's anyone else who, like me, needed to buy a clue... Scott
March 29Mar 29 Idk sometimes the sim seems to hang on loading. It should always be pretty fast (like 30 seconds) or less imo. I generally run 200 TLOD but then run autofps later. I disabled auto start. I've also had times where it just sits on the overhead view forever and never loads in. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
March 29Mar 29 I sometimes get hung on the overhead view also. I always thought it was just because maybe the servers were busy during peak times. My TLOD is set at 200 and I don't use any frame rate controls. Most of the time I don't have the issue. March 29Mar 29 No problems with load time here at TLOD 400. No Auto FPS. 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2 - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base
March 29Mar 29 A long load into the sim itself usually is due to WASM file compiling within an aircraft. Whenever an aircraft, like the IniBuilds Airbusse, the PMDG Boeing's, the TFDI MD11 or the Aerosoft CRJ are loaded up the first time or after having being updated, the files are compiled from scratch and this can take long. Sometimes over 15 minutes.

I set TLOD to, I believe, 10 and bang! Fast loads - problem gone. I start Auto FPS manually before loading the sim so it takes over once the session loads in. This makes the whole thing completely transparent. 4 hours ago, tamba765 said: I sometimes get hung on the overhead view also. In my case it was always slower than I expected, though there was certainly a lot of variability that I'd also guess is related to server load. But with my current settings, it doesn't seem to matter. It's consistently fast now. 4 hours ago, Farlis said: A long load into the sim itself usually is due to WASM file compiling within an aircraft. The TLOD change completely eliminated the long loads, so it seems unlikely to have anything to do with WASM compilation. Scott

Scott I guess what I could do is load with TLOD 10 and then start auto fps after hehe | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

Good to know actually, as I do adjust TLOD according to whether I'm flying "scenic GA" or "Airliner" flights. Not that I know this, I can set TLOD to a low value before exiting each session of the sim. March 30Mar 30 My TLOD is 250, and it takes a few seconds to load my PMDG planes. As for compiling updated aircraft, this generally takes no more than a minute.
