New VR Update for XP

Featured Replies

I don't see anything about quad views. No eye track on the Crystal Light.

The VR update is awesome. Not complaining, just wondering if it's going to support quad views since the Crystal Light does not have eye tracking. Thats why they call it the Light Version.

Presumably that just a foveated view setup that's fixed to the centre of the display rather than tracking the eyeline ?

Basically. The center of the view is rendered at full resolution while the peripherals views are rendered at lower resolutions. Works really well in 2024, and DCS.

I have Quest 3, 12900K + 3090, and via Virtual Desktop High or Ultra preset, XP12 barely runs at 36fps in VR, just barely. GPU is screaming. When I unlock fps in VD, it shows ~40fps, so it's on edge even on default airports, no AI, and Aerobask DA50 (not fps hungry unlike Toliss or Zibo). I wonder will latest VR update bring FPS number a bit up, so I can lock to 45fps (with frame reprojection of course). It's strange since in MSFS I see usually 60fps in COWS DA40, Ultra preset in VD.

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

I really would love to use x-plane, but it's a shame that even with high end PC's (9800x3d+RTX5080) i'ts impossible to run the simulator in VR at a decent resolution without using this awful spacewarp stutterfest feature. I was hoping laminar to make improvements on performance by giving us DLSS or FSR4 support, instead of focusing on supporting that ridiculously overpriced apple vision headset that no one cares about.

Sounds like VRS (eye-tracked if the hmd has that bit) could be an alternative to quad views.

And here's hoping that linux VR gets some attention.

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

Alternative yes, but Quad Views has a bigger performance boost. Its better than nothing I suppose.

Hand tracking could be really helpful.

Hopefully, better VR locomotion makes the feature list. The current system to move around in VR is plain bloody awful.

Yeah, that could be fun. Mouse interaction can be a bit of a pain at times. I might be tempted to upgrade to Dream Air.

The story here is that we would very much like more modern AA methods. But they all require motion vectors (to predict the next frame). Which is why everyone is banging the jail doors trying to get released from MSAA 1080p h###. Motion vectors also require a few other ticket items to be done, and the list to get there is LONG.

So we're aware, and is one of our highest priority items (perhaps second to next-gen scenery... I'm not going to argue with what people think is more important). We have been constantly working to whittle down the checklist. But the best thing to do is check back in with the roadmaps.

Hopefully sooner than later.
