April 27Apr 27 Nevermind, posted too soon now that I found confirmation of it being a known bug over on the official forums. Edited April 27Apr 27 by hangar Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons
April 27Apr 27 That does sound more like a current 2024 scenery bug than a bad local install, especially if the official forum report matches what you're seeing. I’d still do one quick sanity check with an empty Community folder and a stock aircraft at Meigs just to rule out an add-on conflict. If it still happens after that, I’d leave your install alone and chalk it up to the sim for now.
April 27Apr 27 Author Yea no, definitely not me... I don't use any 3rd party scenery, only have a couple of aircraft in my community folder. It's been well documented for a long time now actually, but I guess they don't consider it an iconic or important airport in the sim to fix. Too bad. Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons

I still find this 2020 addon an improvement: https://flightsim.to/addon/834/merril-c-meigs-field-kcgx I added a Z in front of the file name to make it load above DD Chicago. Bert
April 27Apr 27 This is an abomination to the memory of Sublogic and early flight simulator, I suggest a diversion to KCMI. 787 captain. Previously 24 years on 747-400.Technical advisor on PMDG 747 legacy versions QOTS 1 , FS9 and Aerowinx PS1.

For some of us old timers Meigs represents a deep seeded memory from way back in the early days with MSFS, and provides a sort of warm, fuzzy feeling knowing that it was back by default in FS2024...only to find that it's not even usable now... talk about anti-climatic, sheesh. Thanks for the suggestion (KCMI). Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons

April 27Apr 27 On another note, there will always be a soft spot in my heart for Meigs - I had the pleasure of flying into the field late on an afternoon in 1972. A businessman desperate to make it to a meeting in the Chicago Loop showed up at the FBO's office just before one of my training flights. Considering what the owner was going to get from me for an hour of dual compared to a charter into Chicago my training got cancelled that day. However, I was offered a free seat for the trip. We took the owner's C182 into Meigs and dropped our grateful passenger at the Meigs FBO. We ended up in the Loop at a great restaurant. That night we flew back to our field in Rockford - it was an amazing flight. We lifted off over the dark water at the end of RWY 18, then turned west and flew out over the city. It was one of those amazing nights in Chicago - the weather was clear and the city just sparkled. We could see every bit of traffic going in and out of Midway and O'Hare. It felt like a punch to the gut when Daley destroyed the runway and shut down the field. Edited April 27Apr 27 by RandallR Randall Rocke

Thursday at 12:25 PM3 days If you're checking it in FS2024 now, I'd probably start with the clean stock airport first before adding any scenery on top. With runway/elevation oddities, extra scenery and old cache/content leftovers can make it harder to tell what is actually broken. If the stock version still looks wrong after that, then at least you know you're not chasing a conflict from another package.

There's a huge misalignment or something in the 2024 default KCGX that can flip your aircraft during rollout after landing. Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons
Friday at 02:59 AM2 days My brother and I flew his Cherokee 180 from Henry County, OH 7W5 into Meigs on Sept. 10, 2001 for a big printing show at McCormick Place, flew back out that evening after a beautiful walk from McCormick to Meigs under clear skies and about 75 deg. Next day, Sept. 11, 2001 did the same flight to Meigs but never made it...on the way in we were listening to Gary approach talking to a KingAir - Controller: "the FAA has issued a nationwide ground stop, land at the nearest suitable field or return to base." The KingAir pilot begged to be able to get his passengers to Valparaiso but the controller just repeated the same command. Since I'd never heard of a "nationwide" ground stop (neither of us had) I decided that was a good time to let my brother handle the comms and call the Gary controller to see what was up. He repeated the same command to us and said "when you get on the ground turn on the news." We made the mistake of landing at Goshen, IN. My brother's plane stayed there for two weeks and then he had to pay a CFII to fly it back to 7W5 on an instrument flight plan. These were a couple of MANY flights into Meigs and I'll never forget how cool it looked on final to 36 with the city skyline, Soldier Field, the museums and McCormick all right there in front and beside you.I was very angry when that jack@#$ Daley had X's ripped into the taxiways and runway in the dark-of-night.On the 1 year anniversary of 9/11 we took a commercial flight out of DTW to Manchester, NH - when we got to DTW around 8 am the airport was like a ghost-town - there was 1 person standing on the walk in front of departures and inside we probably didn't see 50 people all the way to our gate. Pretty uncommon for DTW any day at 8 am. Guess everyone else was afraid of a repeat. i7-6700k • Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 • 32GB DDR4 2666 • EVGA FTW ULTRA RTX3080 12GB
