MSFS2024 loading time

Featured Replies

Hello Mates,

A month ago my loading time until the home screen was about 1 min 30 sec.

As I installed more addons (aircrafts, sceneries, utilities) I've noticed that the loading time has increased significantly (2 to 4 minutes).

Examples of utilities I have installed and available in the Tool Bar: Navigraph, FS2Crew, Chase Plane, GTN 750, Flow, Active Sky.

Once I've installed GSX but I've noticed that it increased a lot the loading time. So I've un-installed it.

Right now it is the World Data that is the most time consuming to load.

Do you think I should do something or is it normal?

Thanks.

  • Simicro changed the title to MSFS2024 loading time

I recently installed GSX and I was surprised to see that on my system it had little to no effect on loading times. My sim still loads in under 2 minutes. So it's not GSX. GSX is an excellent add-on! Don't let loading times stop you from enjoying an essential add-on.

When loading times get longer for me, I do the following:

#1 I use the add-on linker to remove everything from the community folder.

#2 I start the sim and check to see how long it takes to load. If it loads in under 2 minutes. Great!

#3 I also delete the Rolling Cache and let the sim create it.

#4 Exit the sim.

Then I use the add-on linker to add the essential add-ons and load the sim again. It usually loads in under two minutes with my add-ons enabled.

Try it and let me know if it works for you.

Jose

The add-on linker allows you to load only the aircraft you are going to use for the flight.

I doubt that it's the aircraft causing the longer loading times. I enabled the PMDG 737 and Fenix A320, and my v2024 sim still loaded in under 2 minutes.

@CFIJose I'm not surprised to see you praise GSX because I read your recent post about installing GSX 😉In the end I'm a bit like you (before you installed GSX): I bought GSX a month ago, installed it then uninstalled it. I keep it for later because currently I don't have time to start at the gate. I will use GSX later. However when it was installed, the "World Data" took a long time to load, I think it's because of the various objects. I suspect that when I uninstalled it there was some left-over. But it's not the only cause I think.

Regarding the add-on linker, I've heard about it of course but I've never used it. I have to investigate and think about it because I'm a fan of standard and default installation, avoiding tweaking as much as possible. Many thanks for the suggestion though.

However I would like to try the Rolling Cache, which I did not know. Where is it located?

YOU MUST TRY ADDON LINKER ASAP. If you need help PM me.

Then, reinstall GSX. Trust me on this one.

maybe you guys should go to the kitchen or some where else whilst loading the sim, watching the screen is not going to make it go quicker. Are we really worried about wasting 2 minutes 😄

Flightsims have always taken a long time to koad, especially with lots of addons. I usually do a bit if web browsing whilst mine is loading

It does seem though at certain times of day though that workd data takes a lot longer to load, but not sure if that is down to MS servers being very busy or my ISP is slowing down during peak periods.

These are good suggestions, but they don't really fix the long loading times.

v2024 loads very fast compared to v2020. It did not matter what I did to try to speed it up. It always took about 5 minutes to load to the main menu and about 2 minutes to load to the scenery. Crazy!

I normally plan a flight while v2024 is loading. So those 2 minutes go by pretty fast.

I fully support CFIJose suggestion of using Addon-Linker. It is so easy to use. I read here on numerous occasion, that people did not want to use it because they had no idea what flight they were going to make before starting the sim, therefore could not select the add-ons they would need! In other words, they jump in the car (or their plane), start the engine, and then think about where they want to go...

When using Addon-Linker, you need to have the following checked: 1/ The plane you want to fly, 2/ eventually the livery you desire, 3/ the departure airport, 4/ the arrival airport, (and any dependencies you may have for the same) that's it. GSX will be loaded by default since it is linked directly to FS24. Try that and time your loading time.

Jose and Bernard, thank you for your inputs guys. Much appreciated.

I had a look at what it does, and saw the interface. I will think about it. I have many addons, but less than 50, not hundreds. So I think it's not worth adding a software layer/"complexity". At the time of P3D there was similar software and I have not used it.

It's my current position though, maybe I will change my mind sometimes.

Try repairing MSFS2024 by right clicking on the app icon in the start menu. Took my load times from 5 mins down to 2.

Thanks I'll try after I finish my long haul and keep you informed. I'll have to see how I can repair because I have FS2024 Steam.
