So I was chatting with a guy on discord about how this helicopter works. Manuals don't really help me that well I'm more of a visual learner.

He said you need to bind the trim release to a toggle. It's that grey button the cyclic. (Or you can click it with your mouse but thats annoying while flying). But anyway you can bind it by searching AS65 trim or something. So for normal hand flying, that button needs to be pressed! I was doing it backwards. I thought it's unpressed while flying by hand. I was fighting the AP. Press it for normal hand flying.

Then when you want to engage the AP, this grey button must be NOT pressed! Make sure Lane 1 and 2 is lit green (this is the VIP version, the N2), try to get into a straight and level flight path, and engage FD, press HDG and ALT, and then CPL. The servos will kick in and take over.

I've found 4 guys now with an inop TDS so I'm hoping we can find a solution to that. But Taog and crew have been responsive about it, and some of the other minor bugs I found. It's seeming to be a great helo. I saw headsets in someone's pic but I'm not actually sure if there's ANR simulation - I would love to have it (along with LPV GP support) - I think a heli of this cost should absolutely have headset/ANR simulation.

Ah, so it’s a force trim interrupt, then! Makes sense.

Ka-50 and AH-64 are the same in DCSW. Takes a bit to get used to it, esp for airplane guys where we only expect changes when trims are pressed, instead of the inverse.

Once you get it down, it’s really quite easy (assuming things are working correctly in general).🤙

Just love your signature. You forgot how many rooms your house has and what kind of car you have. 🤣

  • My money is on Taog's as well, easily. Every helo they have developed for MSFS 2020 and 2024 has been solid and a hit within the helo community. As for MilTech, I want so bad to love the Seahawk but t

I can't get the 750xi to follow the course either. It arms but that's it. It does follow with the asobo gns530.

I really could use a tutorial video for this bird as its quite complex especially with the AP and ASE/SAS stuff.

This guy has 6,000 hrs in the Dauphin 😎:

Thanks for the help. I did what you wrote, but flying is still a mess. When press trim release helicopter hold attitude for few second then pitch up abruptly up. Situation is getting proportionally worse with increased speed. It seems works better with speed below 60kts

Can you share a capture about your settings in the Taog's tablet (Controls) and what kind of joystick are you using ( spring centering, FFB...)?

If only there were a comprehensive and well-written manual and key binding guide available that explained how all this stuff works....

Oh wait! 😄

I read a lot of the manual. I'm a visual learner, I don't learn easily from manuals, I already talked about this above. I learn better from someone showing me.

Basically there are several ways of flying this helicopter and they are modeled as the real helicopter:

SAS mode: you don't have to use the Force Trim but you can still use the Beep Trim ( I think this option is very good for simulators and people with short spring loaded joysticks, other helicopters in SAS mode you can't use the Beep Trim). In this mode you can't use Upper Modes (like HDG, ALT...).

ASE mode: with this one you have to use the Force Trim, Beep Trim, can use Upper Modes and you can fly through (you "force" your cyclic for a turn for example without pressing Force Trim and when you release the cyclic it will come back to the center position before your turn).

Usually in this helicopter in ASE mode you keep pressing Force Trim to go to hover and to take off, when you reach the speed and the V/S you want (60kt and 1.000ft/min for example) you release the Force Trim (depends of your joystick, with a spring centered one once you release the Beep Trim you should release the joystick too and let it center otherwise you will be fighting the AFCS) and then use the Beep Trim to make the changes that you want, usually you don't use Force Trim again until you are going to land. During flight you use Beep Trim, fly through or Upper Modes but if you want to hand fly all the time the best way to do it is in SAS mode.

If you want you can share here your mapping configuration and the Taog's Ipad control configuration (and what joystick you are using) and see if everything is as it should.

Sure, I get it that some people are more visual learners. My comment wasn't directed at you, or anyone specific for that matter, and I didn't mean any offense.

I was just sharing my confusion that for a helicopter this complex, why a prospective buyer (who is almost certainly aware from prior experience that trim and AFCS will be confusing) wouldn't proactively seek out the manual and go through it before just jumping in and trying to takeoff. This is absolutely a recipe for frustration.

It seemed to me from some of the comments on here that some people were oblivious to the fact that there was a full manual and key binding guide that pretty much answered all of their questions. So guys, helpful suggestion, if you haven't already done so, seriously, RTFM! 😄

Not that it will be the perfect source for everyone, and I too was happy to see Matt Crawford quickly get a video out explaining things, but it's a much better place to start from than zero.

Do you happen to know if the key bindings for the CRS knob are working? I didn't see any AS65 specific ones but even my default bindings aren't working on the HSI. I like to have these things bound for hotas style flying but they just don't work on this bird. HDG bug works fine. Is it working for you?

Doesn't look like there's any custom keybinds from Taog for this and I haven't tried the default bindings yet, so I'm not sure. Sorry!

Can’t say about that specifically, but I’ve noticed there are a LOT of “AS365…” proprietary key binds on this bird! 😮

I really dislike that kinda stuff, but it is what it is…

Thanks for that.

I’ve got the basic trim assignments down and am presently getting more comfortable with the helo.

Haven’t gotten thru the manual yet to wrap my head around the upper modes, so the above “how it thinks” is very helpful 🙂

I’m having an absolute blast with this thing so far - LOVE IT! 😁
