There have been a couple of substantial updates to the Phenom in the last week or so. A few things of interest include some flight model changes and a final fix for knobs and switches in legacy mode:

• - **Updated PRO Flight model presets**: Adjusted Friction and increased the smooth wind factor by 15%

• - **Easy Mode Flight model presets.**: Adjusted Friction and adjusted all contact points to make the absorbers stiffer, adjusted cross wind effect to be easier on the user.

• - Fixed rotation switches, so they can work in legacy mode.

• - Fixed 3 way vertical switches so they can work properly on legacy mode.

There are a bunch of other changes/fixes as well. Full change logs for the two recent updates are available in the announcements channel on their Discord.

I hadn't realized that there was an update to the flight model which involved a new "Easy Mode" to make landings a bit simpler. Not sure I'm too interested in this as, yes this can be a tricky plane to land well, but it's quite rewarding when you start to get it right. But it's apparently there if you want to try it.

I've not flown it since these updates but looking forward to doing so soon.

My flying scores are usually in the 90s until I land then it drops to 45 and once 30.

I feel my landings are usually decent so hoping the updates help.

I've only flown the update once, but there are some nice changes that are apparent right away. The G3000 has some further customizations to make it more like the real Phenom version. CAS advisories are now auto acknowledged after a short amount of time (nice during startup and taxi when the Bleed advisories appear), the transponder page has been completely overhauled to match the real aircraft, and I believe some text colors on the PFD have been updated. I also noticed the adjusted crosswind ground handling on my first flight (the takeoff roll seemed to need gradual rudder correction instead of needing a bunch of correction all at once at higher speed).

One thing I'm testing is extremity deadzones on my yoke... most of the nice yokes out there have 180° of roll axis, but the real Phenom seems to be only 90°, so I set extremity deadzones so the yoke reaches full deflection at around 45°. This makes it more sensitive, but should also make handling in crosswinds easier.

The one bummer is the new flight model shows up as a different variant, so I needed to sell and repurchase my version in career mode. About to take her up for a spin again and will hopefully find a destination with a bit of crosswind to test the handling further.

Since this is a marketplace plane, the updates are automatic. Microsoft/Asobo list the marketplace updates every week in their marketplace newsletter, or you can join the FSReborn Discord or keep an eye on the Phenom thread in the official MSFS forums.

Its an MP buy so they are automatic.

Also you need to be streaming the Phenom.

The second sentence is the key. If you downloaded, you'll have to do it again. If you stream, the updates are transparent and you're always flying the latest.

it’s worth it to note that if installed, you’re advised an update’s available when you go to the MP.

I’m so used to checking other stores for updates, and I like to check out what’s on the MO anyway, so this doesn’t bother me.

But the streaming is dead simple and aitomatic, so 👍

Will have to check out the update this weekend - they sound worthwhile.

side note: anyone know if the Piper M600 has received any patches? I glanced around but didn’t see anything but acknowledged bugs. 🤷‍♂️

Updates for this aircraft are in the Marketplace and you get a notification of pending update when you start MSFS 2024.

I wouldn't recommend streaming, always download whenever possible ... why wait on a much slower internet speed (1Gbps) vs. local storage speed which in worse case will be 300% faster (HDD) to best case of 10,000% faster (NVMe Gen5).

According to the developer, update files were sent over to Asobo a while ago. I sincerely hope they aren't going to wait until SU6 to release them.

It's so flawless it makes no sense whatsoever to download anything unless you have a truly archaic internet connection.

IOWs if you only stream and want to get pushed updates, have a good size roaming cache. Mine is 128gb.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but updates like this make me wonder what good all that self-l promotion is for many developers who use real pilots as testers and then, weeks or months later, have to patch the flight model. 🤔

Reading the discussions on the Phenom's Discord might be helpful if you're really looking to understand.

In a nutshell, the only changes to the original (default) flight model are minor tweaks - something which happens all the time. Few things in life are ever perfect from day one - it's a process. The new alternate flight model was done because many found the realistic one was too hard to land, especially in crosswinds. To satisfy demand, a second easier - but less realistic - model was added.

For my part, I like the original model and yes, it is a tricky plane to land in a crosswind. It requires precise technique and practice, but it's so rewarding when you get things dialed in. But I'm all for offering an easier choice for those frustrated by the difficulty. We don't all enjoy the same levels of realism, so allowing the user to choose between realistic and easier is a great idea.
