I have searched Youtube for a tutorial without success (for what I want to do).

I have 'played around' with settings trying to work it out without success. I also found trying to map the joystick buttons to be horrific. No problems in 2020.

I have a Saitek/Logitech 3D Pro joystick.

I had no problems setting it up in 2020.

I want to set up such things as -

Button 2 Cockpit/External view (toggle) That is what it is called in 2020

Button 4 Flight Control surfaces elevator trim down

Etc

In 2020 you can search by name but I can't work out how to do that in 2024.

Does anyone know of a video tutorial which I can follow?

This one is not bad and shows the method I sometimes follow, by searching in the search box for specific controls.

OFC the name conventions used by ASOBO are far from consistent / adequate, but we have to live with it 😉

This should get you started, there is a significant learning curve to work out the logic.

Top tip, sensitivity settings are stored in the 'General Controls' profile, but you set them by clicking on the controller's settings cog.

If you are just starting out I would highly recommend getting chaseplane. Way easier once you figure out the software.

Seriously, it takes about 10 minutes to map all your devices. The question becomes your devices.

For instance when I got my XBOX controller I didnt have to do anything - it was already fully mapped.

XBox Sure. PC. Not really that fast. I have 5 controllers to setup not counting the mouse and keyboard.

But once you figure it out and have one done, you can pretty much copy to your others planes with little change.

I have 8 axes and 93 buttons on my controllers, which I use forGA and airliners. The airliners also have FSUIPC assignments which overlap the same function in GA aircraft. Throw in different sensitivity settings for each aircraft, specific aircraft controls, custom views, add-ons, etc. I have developed a complex set of profiles so all this works flawlessly and it took a bit longer than 10 mintues :)

For a list of equivalent MSFS2024 commands, I use this list quite a bit: https://flightsimcoach.com/msfs-2024-keyboard-commands/

It gives you the command names and the default key setting. It is possible to search for specific commands using the Search field when you are in the Controls section of the sim. The Search field is right next to the title for "Devices List" and above the "Categories" header. Note, there is also another useful function named "Search by input". 'This will navigate to/display the relevant control/command name when that keybind or axis is moved/activated.

As for those specific command/keybinds, in MSFS2024 it should be labelled as:

Cockpit/External View Mode = Backspace key (default MSFS2024 keybind)

Elevator Trim Down (Nose Down) = I key (default MSFS2024 keybind)

One last hint, MSFS2024 does come with with pre-defined profiles and there is a MSFS2020 one which should map the default key bindings if you used those and did not alter/customise them, however since I am not a MSFS202 user, I can not provide any detailed info as to how easy or accurate those profiles are. To be honest I found that one by accident having previously viewed several others, but this one seem to explain some of the "anomalies" of the FS2024 profile management. I did actually learn some new things from this video.

The tool is a left brain exercise. Rightbrainers may take a bit longer to get it. I think it is fun. 🫣
