Hello, I want to create a fictional livery for the PMDG 777 and 737 BBJ to simulate a personal aircraft, as if I owned them myself. I am looking for some recommendations for an airport to use that is within range of most other airports around the world. I might do some short flights, but I would also like to do some flights that really stretch the limits of the plane. Since I plan to simulate a privately owned aircraft, I plan to simulate lower weights to increase range. I was thinking of using Anchorage since I have the polar option with the 777, but the 737 in The Sim isn't capable of it. Either way I would need something with a long enough runway to handle ultra long flights with full fuel load

So what would you're guys suggestions be? My home airport IRL is LAX.

Do you need to be based in the US? There are some good payware airports in Ireland, Scotland, and Scandinavia to choose from as well.

LSGG - Geneva is my hub though I live nowhere near IRL.

Great payware scenery, 4km runway, scenic and intuititive Alpine approaches and 7000nm puts pretty much everything in reach except Australia and New Zealand. 778 gets you further than that, but the real beauty is there's something different in every direction you go.

No, it doesn't need to be in the US. I just prefer something in the northern hemisphere and with a long enough runway to handle long-distance flights. Also, I would want something with ILS so I can use autoland when needed. I do like the idea of Scandinavia, just not sure if there's anything besides the main airports like Oslo or Stockholm that have long enough runways with ILS..

Thanks, I will check it out. Does this airport have ILS ? I tried searching Google but couldn't tell.

Orbx KATL is a very good choice, meets your long haul needs. It should easily cover Europe & South America for your 777.

Yup, LSGG has ILSs to both runway ends, though CAT II/III only to runway 22.

Central to almost everything? Maybe KMIA, LIRF, LTFM or KIAH/KDFW. You're right when saying no to the Southern hemisphere, cities are too sparse down here.

What do you mean the 737 can’t do AK? The BBJ’s have roughly 6k nm range…

I personally prefer PHOG (Maui, HI) because it’s a small-ish, scenic airfield that can still handle the heavies.

PHKO in Kona, Big Island is an alternate with a longer runway.

The problem with HI is that it’s literally in the middle of nowhere, so you’re looking at either short island hopping trips or long over-water etops flights.

A more practical US hub would probably be KDEN or KDFW. Those Would open all of N & S America, etc

But if you really want to maximize your number of destinations, I’d say somewhere like Cairo, Turkey, Greece, Italy or the Balkans. Out of all those, I’d probably pick Italy. 👍

You have plenty of good options actually.

EINN, EIDW, LSZH, LIRF - MK Studios
EGPF, EGPK - uk2000
EKCH - Simnord
LGIR - Lisium/JustSim
And a couple Italian favorites that don't get much attention
LIPE - MK Studios
LIPQ - Tropicalsim

These all have runways of at least 2600m or more

Yeah, I have nothing against the Southern Hemisphere lol, I just prefer airports in northern North America or Europe. I like cold places.

I meant the 737 from PMDG isn't capable of flying over the North Pole in the sim. At least if I go with an airport in Europe, I will have better access to Africa as well.
