I finally decided to take the plunge with the deal going on (that comes around every now and then) for FS2024. I get so much out of 2020 I didn't see the need to switch (amazing releases still pouring out, smooth VR, etc). Plus what's important to me was AI/ATC getting fixed at least to the level of FSX was for airliner flying. Since this was never addressed with 2024 to any meaningful level and overall it's in worst shape both in 2020 and 2024 I resorted to more GA flying. I've actually grown to love that more. Private Jets and releases like the BlackSquare's A36/Baron has more than filled the gap. Now that real world Airliner flying is right up there with the problems of the Greyhound buses we used to avoid in the US in some cases worse (unruly passengers, over crowding, TSA etc.), it's a headache to even think about it even in the sim world. A broken AI/ATC system makes it even worse of a bother. There's no joy anymore flying into cities in the sim knowing the hell of the real world on a few different levels (LA, NY, Chicago, etc). After my son's private lessons and seeing corporate passengers just walk up to their jets and head to places like Aspen, that's the better way to travel especially in the sim. With 2020's amazing ground scenery GA more than fit the bill.

Now off to 2024:

1. First off I need both sims to run on my computer which seems to cause more trouble than it's worth

2. I tried copying my controller settings so I can use them in 2024 (I hate where 2024 went with controller setups). I ended up by mistake blowing up my 2020 settings so I have to rebuild them. So much for that...

3. After installing 2024 Deluxe Pro Edition it won't get past 97%. I tried everything. It's not in the XBOX directory, it's not on the C:\ drive but in the 4TB drive I have for FS2020 in it's own FS2024 folder. It will not get past 97% even if I pull the internet connection just to get it past that hump (AI suggested this)

4. Last but not least Navigraph HUB will not load up. It just hangs

5. I've since uninstalled 2024 and all magically has started back working as it should (Navigraph Hub, XBOX App pointers, etc)

2024 seems to be all or nothing on my end. I've heard some have got this to work so if there's any suggestion please chime in. I'd like to start making the transaction but I need both sims to work for now.

Way back when, last year, until I bought a new PC, I used to run FS2020, XP11 and XP12 simultaneously. Keeping all three sims up to date was an effort.

I wish I could help, but I'm not sure what's caused you so much grief. I ran '20 and '24 side by side for months before finally deciding I was never going back to '20. I did nothing special and had no issues with Navigraph or, really, anything else.

I did do one thing to prepare for a more seamless transition for my various hardware pieces and that was to commit completely to SPAD.neXt for all controls. I had previously kept axis controls (throttle quadrant controls, rudder pedals and brakes and yoke) in MSFS. Moving everything to a 3rd party app meant I didn't have to deal with '24's changes for hardware mapping. My device profiles seamlessly worked across both platforms.

Hopefully someone else has experienced similar issues to yours and can help.

I believe it's possible, as long as you avoid importing or adding add-ons from 2020 to 2024, due to some incompatibilities. The reverse is impossible. I have both, but with the fluidity, quality, and relevant options of FS2024, I stopped using the previous version.

I'm thinking the latest SU's might have changed some things that were previously not a problem. Too many people in the past as I've read different forums had no issue running the two sims on the same PC.

Even though I haven't used 2020 since 2024 release, it's still on my computer and operational. I installed them both to their default locations and the only difference is that I moved my 2024 community location to a separate SSD. But they will run side by side. I would uninstall 2024, reboot computer, reinstall to default location, reboot again. Then start without making any modifications or using any addons. Once you get a vanilla install you can then make changes, but I would advise moving 2024 community folder to a different location or HD to avoid future issues. Also, if you're using Map enhancement, make sure it's completely off and not making changes to your system. It can stop 2024 from loading. Will 2024 start in safe mode? What video drivers are you using? You can go to the location of the user.cfg and delete it and let 2024 rebuild a new one.

I have no issue running them side by side even after SU6. The core sims are installed in default location on C drive, and the Official/Onestore and Community folders are together on a dedicated external SSD for each sim. Works like a charm. I also regularly bring 2020 scenery packages over to my 2024 Community folder without issues.

I was thinking since the I have the store version of 2020, get the Steam version of 2024. My point above is if you've install 2024 before SU6 it may have not been a problem. Just shooting in the dark here.

A Community folder is not created without the sim being fully installed. I can't get to fully installed on initial loading. It stops at 97%. Was you install of 2024 prior to SU6's release meaning you already had 2024 installed well before SU6? As with anything there shouldn't be a problem if you installed the sim around the SU2 era or something like that. Heck SU6 might not be it, it could be SU5 or it just could be something screwed on my PC blocking the two sims.😒

Yes, I installed 2024 when it first released before SU's. But both copies are own through Xbox or Game pass not steam, but I don't think that should matter. I stayed with Xbox or Microsoft game pass so I can move all my 2020 compatible scenery and aircraft over to 2024 using Marketplace library. Yes, move community after a complete install. Are you installing using steam app or is there a desktop install app? But I don't see why anything should be blocking the startup unless you have Map Enhancement installed or running and not knowing it.

Weird issue to have and is likely system specific - I have both 2020 and 2024 installed and both work. Purchased both through Steam.

I do sometimes get hang ups on 2024 due to authentication errors on the Microsoft game bar; IIRC 2020 did not have or require any connection to the Xbox Games service, but 2024 does. I'd check and make sure you have the ability to log into the Xbox PC platform, even if you have no intention of using it, 2024 will run it in the background to track gamerscore and achievements.

Would like to help too as I don't understand why the issue happened. Me too, have both 2020 and 2024 side by side even in the same SDD, sharing a main Microsoft Flight Simulator folder and inside goes the division 2020 and 2024, everything fine.

I'm not using Steam at all. Like you I prefer the XBOX App install. I don't have Map Enhancement installed so I don't know what's causing the issue. Like I said above I may try Installing through Steam but that's another purchase. I'm pretty confident that should work because both installs aren't going through the same Microsoft app.

That may be the secret sauce for this. I choose two separate folders on the D:\ for the install. Maybe if I install it in the same folder as 2020 that may work. The problem is I don't want 2024 to anyway affect the 2020 folders in the same parent directory.

If installed in their default locations on same drive 2024 and 2020 will go to their own respective locations on C drive. One will not interfere with the other, they are completely independent of each other. Also make sure that you have exclusions for 2024 set with your anti viruses and firewall software if using such.
