Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

Actually, that's really interesting. Ive not heard of this phenomenon before.

I'm sure there will be no chain pulling. It would be sad if interesting natural phenomena like this, that isn't specifcally banned, can't be discussed.

Gotcha Charlie. I'll behave myself.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Except for when it goes off into the wrong direction! It happens way too often!

Have faith young Charles. Exemplary behaviour incoming. 😁

I think I'll just post IBTL right now and avoid the rush. 😆

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Nothing is definitive in this universe. All we have is probability.

Cats told me that and they know stuff. They also said, keep an open mind.

The exception to the rule, cats said, is when your feline master demands food, that my fellow human, is truly definitive.

Stay tuned for more wisdom from that which is cat.

I think there is a perfect explanation for this, although I might have gotten it wrong ;)

I'm not intending to reopen the El Nino thread but Kelvin Waves are something I never heard of before. They are impacting the California coast.

Noel

It's called storm surge, and is caused by rough seas due to high winds from storms and hurricanes.

"Since 1854, at least 107 tropical cyclones have affected California, including an event in 1858 that produced hurricane-force winds near San Diego. The biggest danger from these storms is usually heavy rainfall, which can cause flash flooding"

The above is from an AI search and the sources are wikipedia and Accuweather.

Nothing new under the sun here.

Before replying, Dave, you should read the article first.

"Kelvin waves are not like crashing waves at the beach. They are planetary in scale, spanning thousands of miles."

I did read the article, although the source is dubious at best.

I guess you can't detect it, Noel, but I can. The article very subtly tries to connect these types of waves to "unprecedented", "record-breaking", "never before recorded" blah blah blah. The author goes on to claim that this is ***likely*** the biggest El Nino in 1,000 years. Note the use of the word "likely", so if they're wrong they can claim they didn't say they were 100% certain, which of course they aren't.

I also find it funny that the article states that Kelvin waves don't "crash" like other waves, and then right above this there's a picture of huge waves literally crashing on the California shore. They also include the typical fearmongering map with big angry red blobs like they do with high temperatures to make it look more scary, and this map is time-lapsed so the blobs pulse and move to make them even more ominous.

Oh god. 🙄 It happened. Sorry young Charles. You were right. I hoped for once it wouldn't happen. 🫣

No "yanking" at all but it still happened.

Sad we can't discuss such an interesting phenomenon.

I've been watching too much Star Trek. At first thought the title of the thread was Kelvin Timeline......

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.
