  1. Where do you get this number from? The only official data we have for XP11 has GA as the topmost flown type of plane just a hair above airliners. http://dashboard.x-plane.com/
  2. I have all my orthos in 6 folders, one for each continent (I don't fly Antarctica) so a total of six entries in scenery_packs.ini Did not notice an increase in loading time, I'm assuming XP only loads a preset area around the starting point. This method saves a bit of space as opposed to have a folder for each tile because often DSF are duplicated across folders.
  3. The other sim has a freeware tool that is super user friendly to use and works beautifully allowing you to choose several different imaging providers on the fly. I'm hoping some clever programmer could do the same for X-Plane. Authoortho could be the first step in the right direction.
  4. ORBX Central support for XP12 was added sometimes in late September or beginning of October. The do have a specific library for XP12, free to download. Not much in terms of scenery, the only in-house developed is YBBN released only a couple of weeks ago. Looks beautiful, if you fly in that area https://orbxdirect.com/product/ybbn-xp12
  5. Good amount of fixes. Finally the fuel trucks error will be gone from the log. Great work on the ATC front. At some point LR said the global scenery would get a recut and autogen should be improved but at this stage I don't know if these will make it into 12.00 given the December timeline. For the subpar antialising we might need to wait until the engine can accept TAA, hopefully sometime next year.
  6. This is puzzling, the strongest point of the other sim is exactly those things you mentioned above. Ortho does not come with XP12, you need to generate it yourself via a tool that is not yet fully compatible, X-World is great for a one-man project but the autogen is very basic. Global Forest V2 is not free. XP historically excels in other things
  7. One of the biggest achievement (IMHO) is to have a dedicated person working on ATC, reacting to user feedback and constantly trying to improve this extremely challenging aspect of the sim. I often wonder why Laminar did not bring Traffic Global into XP12 and price it accordingly given how that developer now works for Laminar. Seems like a missed opportunity.
  8. UKflyer, I don't think this is the case, they did improve several aspects of the scenery with V12. Maybe it could be that improved autogen based on OSM data (if legally possible) would not play well with the default terrain
  9. Agree clouds are the most prominent difference. I would add a few more points after carefully watching the video. XP had some minor stuttering here and there, maybe it was the recording method, or possibly a low end PC. The shimmering is quite noticeable and for me fairly annoying just like the basic reflections. The aircraft seems a bit more 'on rails' in X-Plane compared to real life, this might be a wanted behaviour to prevent people getting sick over their keyboards 🤣 The author mentions XtremRealistic V2 in the video description, I think it was supposed to be XPRealistic V2. Of course the big elephant in the room is ortho scenery which Austin hates so much but there's no viable alternative at the moment. In terms of autogen, I don't understand how one guy in his spare time (Armin) can come up with something like X-World and Laminar cannot. What could be the reason?
  10. Laminar just posted a detailed article explaining all the new ATC features. https://www.x-plane.com/2022/10/new-atc-features-v12/
  11. Off topic but that quote comes from one of my favourite movies and thanks for bringing that up, I'm going to watch it again today 😁 I don't know about this, take the tipical GA pilot, many dangers come from things like birds, drones, balloons, kites, etc. I don't think XP models these too well if at all. Note, I'm not comparing to other sims, let's keep this discussion civil and constructive.
  12. @tonywob Orbx has been fairly quiet so far on XP12 compatibility. I was expecting some announcement following that joint interview with Austin and Anna. Is there anything you can share please?
  13. Orbx offers a demo of their GB South scenery. See here https://orbxdirect.com/product/gbr-south-demo-xp11 This is not optimized for XP12 hence the 3d water and trees do not show but otherwise it works fairly well. Really worth trying if you have 5GB of free space on your disk
  14. I don't think so, unofficially it was mentioned a few months of betas before release, most likely to be at beginning of 2023
  15. If you are using xOrganizer 3.0 there is an update out exactly for this new version of X-World, use the built in update function to proceed.
  16. Excellent, I was waiting for https://x-plane.to/ to become available, hopefully it will trigger more developers to create addons for X-Plane.
  17. @1st fltsimguy Yes agree, if you only need to modify only a few of the pictures then something like GIMP / Photoshop is the best way. I use ortho4xp filters method mostly with Bing imagery to decrease the greenish tint across all pictures
  18. in the ortho4xp folder structure there is one called filters, in there there should be some default ones that you can use as reference. You can change the levels for the three channels R G B ad also modify brightness and contrast For example: levels 0 0.95 255 0 255 0 1 255 0 255 0 1.05 255 0 255 brightness-contrast -25 10 The above would decrease the R channel to 0.95 of the original value and increase the B channel to 1.05 Then decrease brightness by -25% and increase contreast by 10% See also this link on how to get the filter to be used by your image provider of choice https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/169759-how-to-change-the-color-tones-for-a-source-in-v130/ Keep in mind this gets applied across all images for the provider, if you only need to color correct a few ones your method is the only way I know of.
  19. That's incorrect, you can modify color levels, brightness and contrast. This is not done via the UI but instead in the configuration files. I did it all the times to minimize the overly greenish tint of Bing imagery
  20. See their video at https://youtu.be/VDSlVVabTAc Also this quote What I take from this is that native 3D trees are used to populate these forests. Oh and they do have a free demo for XP12 covering Eastern Europe, see at the bottom of their website at www.global-forests.com
  21. The video and the picture look great but keep in mind this is not what you get out of the box. You need to learn how to produce your ortho imagery and possibly a replacement for the default autogen. From here and until release it can only get better, my only concern being the non-beta release might be several months away
  22. Frankly it's you that only see monsters, there's several x-plane people here. This thread is to point out the positives and negatives of the current betas. Nothing more. Nobody is taking Laminar to court over the sharp roads. Laminar has said the global scenery will get an update before the beta run ends. Then in 12.1 or so we might get 3D grass. From the WED developer: Also this other quote from one of the main XP12 developers, Sidney Just
  23. I only have the demo so I cannot confirm but based on the first post of this thread, the usual German style houses are showing across some European countries. Austin said a few times in this past year how some east european artist(s) was redoing the autogen, is that maybe coming later? Or is it already in this beta1?
