  1. Once you know about it, you will see that VATSIM is a large community of both virtual pilots and controllers.I guess the part that is missing is finding it in the first place, which I suppose there is a bit of a lack of exposure.
  2. A Snowbird is a term used to describe Canadian citizens who enjoy spending the winter months of the year in warmer climates. It is well known fact that a great contingency of Canadian citizens migrate to Florida in the winter months and when they first arrive are usually pale, this why they are called Snowbirds.Canadian Xpress® would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, March 17th, 2012 at 09h00est (14h00z) for our March 2012 Fly-In where we will transport the Snowbirds back up home.Departing from the Sarasota Bradenton International (KSRQ), we will bring back our passengers to Toronto Pearson International (CYYZ).This is an open invitation to all pilots no matter what your flying experience to attend this Canadian Xpress® sponsored event that will be flown on the VATSIM network.More information regarding this event including operational details, charts, optional add-on scenery and the Canadian Xpress® SB Model Set can be viewed by visiting www.CanadianXpress.ca or by directly downloading our Fly-In document here.See you all on Saturday the 17th!
  3. The site is back up, but they are having some temporary issues. More details can be found on their home page.
  4. The site is a bit on the flashy side and it does look kinda of quiet.I do agree that having a huge list of pilots where a good portion of them are inactive for over a year is a little misleading.Good conversation Peter!
  5. There is no set rules on what is is the perfect VA as the opinions on this will vary from person to person. Some pilots only like real-world VAs with fixed routes.Others prefer fictiional VAs that are a little more flexible.Just because a VA doesn't have fixed routes doesn't necessarily mean it is not a good VA. It simply means it is not the virtual airline for you. :)One thing for sure though, if there is no activity on a virtual airlines web site, that is never a good sign.
  6. I myself do not own this card (I have the 590), but I know about 3 guys that recently picked up this card and they all have given it a thumbs up and have seen significant performace over their previous cards (285, 560, etc.)
  7. Anything has to be better than BluePrint Simulations CYYZ. The buildings look horrible and not the greatest on Frame Rates either.
  8. If you are really truly once the largest, then you probably will want to look into Pheonix Virtual Airline. http://www.phoenixva.org
  9. Just got coffee up my nose when I read this. :(
  10. Moncton Flight College DemoSaturday, February 4th, 2012 from 09h30est-11h30est (14h30z-16h30z) This Saturday, February 4th between 09h30est-11h30est (14h30z-16h30z) there will be a demonstration of Flight Simulator, Virtual ATC on the VATSIM network that is being held at the Moncton Flight College. All pilots are invited to provide local, inbound or outbound traffic in the Moncton FIR specifically Moncton (CYQM). Full ATC services will be provided and fascinated on-lookers will be impressed at our skills.
  11. It is not a question of VATSIM taking the hobby to seriously. You have to keep in mind that all servers and bandwidth are donated, so why would you someone connect to a free server, only to walk away from their PC.If you have to step away for more than a couple minutes, disconnect leave FS running and then reconnect when you get back.
  12. I use a yoke (and rudder pedals) for all types of aircraft that I fly, except for Airbuses in which I bring out the old joystick.
  13. Anything from PMDG or RealAir, you can't go wrong with.Although not the newest product out there, I also still really enjoy the Level-D 767 as well.
  14. Have a bunch of their scenery and although there is a lot to download, it is definately worth it.Be patient until they get everything back up and running. It will definately be worth the wait.
  15. I agree with Sekstifire. Looks like you are ready to fly online on either the VATSIM or IVAO network.Nothing like interacting with our people. :)
  16. Make sure all screen savers are turned off. Also check your power options. There is a setting for the screen to go blank after X minutes. Make sure this is disabled.
  17. There are few really good ones out there.PMDG JS41 and RealAir Duke are two of my favs.
  18. I hope you got approval from WestJet to use their name, logos, etc. They have already shutdown several VAs using their name without written consent.
  19. Canadian Xpress® would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, February 18th, 2012 at 20h30est (Sunday February 19th 01h30z) for our February 2012 Fly-In where we will fly from Italy direct to Venice over the most famous Italian cities; Naples, Rome and Florence.Departing from Palermo (LICJ) in Sicily, we will fly to Venice Marco Polo International (LIPZ) for the Venice Carnival. We will then take a gondola and cross the Canal Grande to Venice S. Nicolò (LIPV) where we will depart and fly over the Dolomites to Bolzano (LIPB), a nice town in South Tirol. The Carnival of Venice is one of the most famous carnivals in the world and has very ancient origins dating back to the end of 11th century. At the age of the Serenissima the carnival began on December 26 and ended during mardi gras but in some years, the carnival lasted 180 days. The Dolomites are a mountain range located in north-east of Italy and they are famous for skiing in the winter months and climbing, hiking, base jumping, paragliding and hand gliding. In other words, it is a tourist Mecca. This is an open invitation to all pilots no matter what your flying experience to attend this Canadian Xpress® sponsored event that will be flown on the VATSIM network.More information regarding this event including operational details, charts, optional add-on scenery and the Canadian Xpress® SB Model Set can be viewed by visiting www.CanadianXpress.ca or by directly downloading our Fly-In document here.See you all on Saturday the 18th!
  20. Is this the same VA as these guys http://canadiannorth.virtual-airlines.com/
  21. You are in for a treat! FS Global with GEX is great.
  22. The JS41 is a great aircraft as it is a mix between a prop and a jet as it has an FMC, but can land anywhere. The PMDG model is well modeled with a fantastic VC and is a pleasure to fly, but is VERY unforgiving if you miss a step in your check list. So if you think you can purchase it, install it, loaded it up and fly, chances are you will end up with an engine fire. There is a learning curve to this aircraft, but once you master it, it is a lot of fun to fly and well worth it.
