  1. Hi William.. That is one really beautiful production. The author is someone who really loves his job. He/she is a professional. No frantic zooming - audio is on cue - the shots are amazing...and they have that very professional ability to hold the camera steady. Congrats also to the editor who put those clips together. A really professional production. ..and in HD 1920 x 1080 also. Wonderful. I particularly admire those shots of passing aircraft. Goodness me - that co-pilot looks young. I'd love to know the track title if anyone knows it - an excellent choice. Well spotted Sir ! It's a keeper. Regards Bill
  2. Well, it is a Flight Simulator forum...you've heard of JATO surely ? :LMAO: :LMAO: Regards Bill
  3. Yippee ! I'm so glad that I'm not alone in my beliefs... :Worried: I'm considering starting a 'Windy' club. Annual meetings/dinners etc to spread the word. Anybody interested ? Bill :wacko2:
  4. Hi Jerad... I only fly in the summer. So can I have mine now please ? Regards Bill
  5. Yep - joint accounts keep the peace - most of the time. However it does become a problem if your end of month total get a little below what she expected it to be....I get online statements also, but I do hear the occasional 'I haven't seen a bank statement for a while - are they still issuing them'. Sorry dear, I'll check. My worry is that she is becoming more 'computer literate' day by day...she may check herself one day. It then becomes time to grovel. You want a new perm dear ? that's ok - by the way FS Labs are bringing out a really superb airliner - everybody I know is drooling over how it looks - do you mind..... It works most of the time. If it doesn't, then the 'pressure' is exerted for next month...eventually, after more bribery, I succeed. Now I'm saving all my grovelling for FS Labs...come on guys, help me out here. Throw me a titbit on 'when'... Regards Bill
  6. Hi Rob... There's one particular component of these storms that I haven't seen mentioned here - and that is the NOISE. This is the most memorable (for the wrong reasons) part of living through a hurricane. It is, IMO, the scariest part - there is absolutely no escape. It just bores through you, and I found it very tiring at the time. Glad to see that the (relative) numbers of lives lost are not as great they could have been. I sincerely hope that all of you who have lived through it can return to normality very soon. It is amazing what we take for granted, like utilities - and only realise how essential they are when we are denied them... Best of luck to all those who have suffered. It make you feel so vulnerable at times to what nature can throw at us.... Regards Bill
  7. Hi Rob.. I was in the hurricane that killed some 12000 in Mexico/Central America in 60/61. The storm had crossed into the Pacific - I was at sea - and one particular image I can recall is standing on the ships bridge - some 40' above the water - and looking UP at the crest of the next wave. Some scary moment that was. I was 19 at the time , and I was ok until I noticed that even the old seadogs aboard were looking concerned....we had left the Panama Canal a few days before, and we were heading North, with some 800 cars aboard for Long Beach. I sincerely hope that you all suffer only inconvenience, and nothing more. Best of luck to you. It just rains here. All day. All week. All year..No summer this year... Regards Bill
  8. Hi FlyGeordie.. My 'Pfui' was meant as a tongue-in-cheek comment - I was trying a little humour - to explain that my 'Advert' in my sig had not been effective due to posters not being interested in adverts ..... Sorry - I did not intend that my remarks would be taken seriously... ..and I agree with you - 100 per cent..I hate all advertising. In fact, my family often criticise me for recording all my films (sorry - movies) on DVD - so that I can watch them without adverts - I have edited them out. I hate the fact that over here, I am paying 1/3rd of my Pay-per-View subscription to Sky just to watch them. Screwy... Thanks to the BBC...I can at least watch a couple of channels without them. Regards
  9. You actually don't like advertising ? Pfui.. Hey - I've wondered why I've had no offers for the item below - perhaps I should display it in larger type ? :LMAO: ...sent from the doghouse.....
  10. No, it didn't work out. Her sense of timing wasn't very good - she always interrupted when I was on approach....so I banned her from the flight deck... Actually, it was when I asked her to 'bounce' my chair on touchdown, to improve the immersion. Apparently it was the last straw....
  11. Hey Zach.... My missus uses that description 'Silly Game' a lot....I'm a little suspicious.... :LMAO: Bill
  12. I know....let's get FS Labs to do a 'Flight' business model. Release the tail - let us merge it with the default Airbus. We can then see the quality emerge. Then the left wing. then the right wing....then the... Just think - you can buy the parts you like ! If you don't like the engines, then you can slew to FL 350 and glide....just like the Gimli glider... At least it would make the waiting EXCITING... :LMAO:
  13. Are you trying to say that there is life 'other' than FSX ? Wait...I've got the door open - hey - it's very bright - what is that big yellow light in the sky ?....Hey - THERE'S PEOPLE OUT THERE ! :LMAO: Regards
  14. Hi Bill.. I'm also a dinosaur re mobile phones - I've still got my 'Brick' as my daughters call it - but I have tried to upgrade my lighting. So far I've got eight LED lamps in daily use, of which one has already failed - it went 'Pop' a few months ago, after less than 2 years' use. I'm hoping that it was a 'one-off'. The others appear to be ok after 3 years or so. I suppse I must have saved quite a tidy sum off my lighting bill. I must try and work out when I shall break even... I've spent a total of £255 so far. Now where's that calculator.... Regards
  15. I'm pretty sure that it is a weather balloon... :P Bill
  16. Hi Leo... Glad you have explained that....I was confused, and I used to play it ! Thanks for making it just a little clearer... Regards
  17. Now where did I put those short pants of mine 60 years ago ? Where can I book a window seat ? :LMAO:
  18. Hi Robin... Sorry to hear of your frustration. I know what it was like for me. However I am now running FSX perfectly, and the NGX. I have had no problems whatsover with FSX for about five years now, and none with the NGX since it was released. I dumped AMD - I don't touch them now. I found that when I had an AMD system, most of my problems were due to the much higher temperatures involved - My AMD CPUs seemed to run much hotter, and I became aware of this after restarting flights that had been saved immediately prior to the crash, noting temps and programs running. This was after I succeeded in dismissing software problems as the cause...If these problems do occur some time into the flight - try saving often and make a note of how long your system has been running. Try to keep your system clean from dust. I tend to use one of my daughters' make up brushes to clean the mobo/fins/fan blades with the vacuum cleaner. I had to do that very often with AMD, In my experience Intel CPUs don't seem to suffer the same problems with temperatures. In my experience, AMD systems require much more efficient cooling. Once I nailed that, and introduced more efficient cooling, the problems disappeared. I see that you have a 1Tb HD. Try the usual re-install - rename your current FS Folder to 'FSX Old' or similar. Re-install using a separate partition, not drive 'C'. Use default aircraft only. Perform a few takeoffs/landings at San Francisco/New York etc - using only the default scenery, but load as much as you can. Now check your hardware temps. As others have said - try the defaults first, monitor your temps (I use 'Core Temp' displayed 'On Top' of Win 7 - it's freeware). Introduce more intensive aircraft slowly, keeping notes. It takes time. I have said this before - IMO MS have excelled in their FS versions - running such detailed sims on desktops, where they were originally confined to special £15m hardware installations, is a fantastic achievement. FS has always been very hardware intensive. Double check all your BIOS settings. Inaccurate settings can be a problem to sort. FS is very picky. Try your BIOS default settings first. I wish you the best of luck. Keep at it. It is worth it in the end. You have a wealth of experience available to assist you here at Avsim. Let us know how you get on. Sorry Chase - time to move it again, to the Hardware forum ? Regards Bill
  19. I see that a lot of posters have missed the point here. I would imagine that should such a situation arise, and you were aboard, then someone obviously would have to do something. Doing nothing would not be an option. Had I not been a 'serious' simmer, but merely a passenger, I'd much rather have an experienced simmer at the controls than a FA. Yes - the FA would be experienced in emergencies, but not in the actually flying. I'm not saying that a simmer would be successful in safely bringing the aircraft down, but I'm pretty sure that a level headed 'experienced' simmer would have far more commom sense, and would think carefully prior to any control input. In addition - he/she would be well aware of the location of the switches/controls and would, in response to ground instructions, give a good account of themselves under pressure. Having said that, I certainly wouldn't like to be in that position of having so many lives depending on my efforts. However if I was aboard, and there were no other passengers qualified to take the controls, then I would, in all probability, be more successful than a FA in at least maintaining controlled flight, enabling a safe descent, maintaining airspeeds and setting up autoland, conditional upon constant input from the ground. It is fine discussing whether a simmer or FC could do better - but that would be a little irrelevant if you were aloft and had to make a decision on 'who'. Would there be enough time to take a vote on who should take the controls ? I would not feel comfortable knowing that a FA was flying the plane. Nice post, Bruno. Ronan: 'Here here, I was honestly expecting a lot more "I could maybe set up an autoland, sorta, kinda." type answers, but some people have blatently come out and said that they'd manually land it no bother.... ' I agree with you. No way would I attempt manual control. I'd just act as the monkey pulling the switches under ground instruction... Being serious for a moment - re the Helios flight 522 - I do feel for the CC who was seen in the cockpit by that F16 pilot. What a situation to find yourself in.... Bill
  20. I want one - yesterday ! How about it, PMDG ? Regards Bill
  21. Hi Marc.. If you go to this site: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=SDK_Installation_%28FSX%29 You will find lots of data on the SDK and installation/use etc. I learned a lot from the FSDeveloper site. Regards Bill
  22. Hi Pierre... I agree with Al - Ernest Gann's 'Fate is the Hunter' is a must. There's only one snag - you will not be able to put it down. (..and you will need a hankie after reading a couple of the chapters). My family know when I'm reading that one again....That is the crown of aviation books. An excellent biography. Another good author - Brian Lecomber. His two books that I have, 'Talk Down' (Where our hero has to talk down a passenger in an Arrow over the UK) and 'Dead Weight' (A Carribean adventure) are brilliant. Down To A Sunless Sea' by David Graham is also one of my favourites - told by a 747 pilot in a 'Last 747 flight' searching for a landing strip after a nuclear war. A brilliant tale. 'Jetsteam' by Austin Ferguson, although a little dated by now, is a good read. I think that one was the source for the 'Airport' films. That good, original, now very dated, 'Flight into Danger' by John Castle & Arthur Hailey is also a good read. '90 Minutes At Entebbe' by William Stevenson, is a good read, although the aviation content is minimal, most of the action takes place on the ground. This was the story of Operation 'Thunderbolt', the Israeli rescue of hostages. Most of these books have been made into films. Regards
  23. Hi Al..I'm getting worried about you... What, with Morris Minors, now DC6's....tut tut. I suppose you've got an aspidestra in the hall ? :LMAO: Seriously though, my condolences re your MM. Fond memories...I had a Morris 10 series 2 - hydraulic lifts accessible in the cab, real leather seats, sunroof, but when MOT's were introduced, ah well.. Have to go, my motorised zimmer needs a push start... Regards Bill
  24. I flew one yesterday.... :LMAO: I wonder what they are worth .....a lovely find. Can't wait to see them in the air... Regards
  25. Welcome to the forum, Frank.I started with FS1 on a floppy disk (for those who do not remember, or were not born at that time) I bought it in 1988 on an Amstrad 1640 PC. Still have the disk, and the manual. That's some 24 years ago .....I've bought every edition since, including many of the scenery floppies which were available at about that time - all they contained were river and runways - the remainder was blank space.Created my 'local' airfield for FSX, and enjoying it.Since my first PC, which I bought for Flight Simulator, I've spent over £23k on various computers and accessories - FS being my primary reason for keeping up to date with hardware. So try and negotiate an increase in your pocket money - you'll need it !I'm a lad aged 73..My PC specs are below. It's a great hobby - and you'll meet many experts on these forums. Should you need any help, this is the place.Best wishes
