  1. Thanks for the nice comments  , yeah it's XPX with skymaxx and carenado piper seneca. Those icons are buttons included in carenado aircraft for Camera options like the saved views for Pilot, radio stack, light switches etc. and Options for aircraft door opening and after shutdown chocks and such. New addition is the AP button for a pop-up view of the autopilot system for easy access.
  2. caught this nice capture of the sunset on my flight from Spokane to Calgary  Even got a little bit of godrays going on in there
  3. I tried to install Lubuntu, so i followed the help guide steps on their site. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStickQuick
  4. Oh yeah, I got a rather old netbook which I bought for 200€ on sale when I got it, which is reeaally slow. It came with windows xp but even that is so slow that doing anything on it is rather impossible. I tried to get lubuntu on it, was all set to install but for some reason i couldn't get the netbook to boot from flash drive. I could choose flash drive as 1st boot priority, but when it was about to launch the boot froze and only option to get past it was to set the OS hard drive as 1st boot option. So I gave up. But yeah for pure internet usage i believe Linux would be a great option for the tech-savvy.
  5. http://www.x-plane.com/?p=2415 Yeah, seems like the problem is with the DVD-drive or the DVD itself. Is it always the same dvd/ same file that fails to write to hard-drive? Oh the knowledge base also says that x-plane will check for DVD once a week
  6. I'd be very interested in hopping over to linux mostly out of pure interest of trying it out on a new platform, but to be honest problem is the lack of game support on linux. I still enjoy wide range of games on my pc most of which don't work on linux, tho steam is having great effort to change that, which I appreciate. I guess I could say for me the problem is justifying installing new OS on my system just so I can test X-plane on it, when I most likely would spent most of my time still on windows
  7. navigraph etc. update your addons nav data I believe, but from the x-plane dev website linked above you can get navdata updates to X-planes own database. Addon planes like Jardesign A320 tend to use their own database instead of x-plane, like you said. I think Jardesign uses airbus extended's navdata just copypaste into A320's folder.
  8. To begin with, X-aviation is a software store like Flightsimstore and simmarket, so what they sell aren't produced BY them. CRJ-200 is made by JRollon, SkyMAXX by MAXX-XP and the Saab is made by Leading Edge Simulations. Now, reason why 2 of the 3 wont work is the Gizmo plugin which they use to "talk" to x-plane. I recall reading the Gizmo dev finding converting the plugin for Linux not worth the effort due to the niche customer base. I believe Jrollons CRJ uses SASL or something else, which works with Linux.. Anyway, looking at the Gizmo Dev subforum on X-pilot there is already a topic concerning Linux development, but be careful there. They seem very stern in defending their stance on Linux, but perhaps that will change with increased demand regarding their decision.
  9. Speaking of weather, I've lately been trying to fly my A320 VA flights on X-plane to "transition" my tubeliner flights into it, but one thing I deeply miss with X-plane is indeed winds aloft, for starters. I remember trying NOAA weather plugin sometime back, but it was very buggy from my couple tests and i just deleted it. Does it nowadays work better, as a real solution to achieving winds aloft? With PFPX able to calculate optimal route with winds it has become quite necessary for my jet flights and if I can't use the data then I might aswell just fly in fsx with PFPX + ASN combo.
  10. I do agree with Lee, flight dynamics are very important to me but at the current state they are good enough for me so I would love to see other areas getting some improvement. Altough what I chose were Seasons/improv urban/no blurries at high alt and not ATC because I want to use online atc if I were to use any at all
  11. I'm not sure if i'll give 'em the title yet, but sure does look like Truscenery has a tough contender on X-plane platform, which is great.
  12. You see any WRC rally cars down there!? Beautiful life-like shots.
  13. Also don't forget that PFPX has eurocontrol validation built in which is a very useful feature and further increases it's greatness as a one-stop-shop of flight planning.
  14. Great shots; brings back the memories of those sights when i visited madeira april 2013... Great landscape, great airport Porto Moniz especially such a cool place, too bad weather was not optimal and the natural swimming pool there was closed. I believe there should be a helipad in porto moniz too? In the lowe left-hand corner I think. Thank you for these shots and the island scenery, too! It's great and amazing quality for freeware. Infact, i'm going to do a sightseeing tour with my helicopter too, now.
  15. I don't know if it will help, but have you calibrated your controllers via the majestic control panel too?
  16. what value is your fiber_frame_time_fraction set to? You may want to try to increase it to give FSX more time to load the ground textures (but that ofcourse comes at the expense of framerate, but it's minor impact ) Other than that, yeah i recommend deleting fsx.cfg and letting fsx rebuild it, and then apply the tweaks from old cfg one by one and checking the situation. edit: just realised this is an old thread with a new question, but I hope my answer still applies
  17. Well, getting back on topic, I noticed this funny occurance that sims have now changed, in regards to the low-visibility "feature" while in clouds.. Whilst doing some test flights in FSX with ASN, the new and rather hyped up feature that causes clouds to really drop the visibility... Is essentially exactly same thing as x-plane's default low vis feature when you fly into overcast. Except your FPS skyrockets, not so much in FSX. Was doing some flying in Oregon, real weather with rather low overcast ceiling, like 500ft. Tried to stay below the clouds in order to keep my vision ahead of me, but even while overcast ceiling was noticeably high above my aircraft, the vision "fogged up" very quickly; Just like in xplane which we all hate.. Funny how we pay to get rid of that feature, while in the other sim this is a new revolution in weather depiction. ^_^
  18. I was wondering the same thing about the terrain.cfg modifications as i completely f**ked up and forgot to install the fixed terrain.cfg and now after utx and orbx messing with my terrain.cfg i cba fixing it... But I couldn't find any notes about terrain.cfg regarding NSX III so I think that means they are not necessary anymore.
  19. Thanks for the updated version, too bad after reformat I just this morning decided to figure this out myself... should've waited a bit longer!
  20. Can't remember which one of the top of my head, but your missing one of these libraries: ff_library_extended_LOD , R2_Library , ruscenery , OpenSceneryX . Though my best guess would be ff_library_extended_lod. Try that one first
  21. I feel like I know what you are talking about, when it comes to soulness and realism with the looks of x-plane. It's missing some of the vibrance that is in the real world, and in fsx too with addons... (FSX default does try to make the world feel like it has "soul" and vibrance, but it looks so 2006 and fails because it's so old.) X-plane world in default looks and feels so bland and sterile, if you could call it that. But even though this has been said like thousand times lately, its true, with HDR on, running skymaxx and replacement lights that make 'em really pop out versus default lights, my X-plane has a totally new life. Every time-of-day is so much more vibrant and lifelike I find, that it beats FSX with addons textures and enbseries fake-bloom/hdr. X-plane with my addons feels like just the right amount of vibrant; what you would find in the real world in my opinion. FSX goes a bit over the top, sort of a glorified look most of the time like you would see in a movie. X-plane looks like what you would see if you were actually up there in the air, flying. My point is that even though in the demo you might not see what people have been so excited about in x-plane, doesn't mean it's not there. Sadly I don't think you can experience the addons in the demo, and to see what many of the screenshots show you, you just need to take the plunge and buy x-plane and maybe skymaxx in addition to that + some freeware and that can really change your x-plane experience.
  22. over at ISDG website, http://isdg.com.au/downloads/ dunno what happened to their website just now but its on the list, Replacement Day and Night Lightning V 1.1 .
  23. Thanks for the nice comments  Aircraft is Carenado Beechcraft F33A
  24. Testing out skymaxx and the replacement lights i installed also
