  1. Unfortunately, this sim has attracted more of the gamer types who care more about that number on the bottom right of their screen than anything else.
  2. My whole statement was in reference to 4k and I think it was pretty clear. Why would you make the point of saying you have a 4k monitor if you don't run 4k res? 77 inch display on 1080p? What's the point of bragging about 60fps if it's a blurry mess?
  3. Lol, maybe at 10k feet in a Cessna over the desert but no way anyone can maintain 60fps minimum at 4k under heavy scenery/settings. 120 is absurd. This new sim is certainly bringing out the children.
  4. Apparently you guys don't have 4k displays, don't understand how flight sims work, or both. There is no possible smoother solution for a 4k setup than 30hz/vsync. I can maintain smooth flight in ultra settings and no stutters with TrackIR. With unlimited FPS it will have a higher FPS ceiling but introduces stutters as the refresh rate isn't synced to my display. Once hardware gets better, 60 hz/sync will be doable but this isn't possible yet. Therefore, the smoothest solution is vsync with your display's refresh rate at a FPS you can maintain in the sim at all times. This remains the case with MSFS (even though you have to set it to 60 to get 30 for some reason). Flight sims aren't first person shooters. They aren't designed for high FPS. To do so would be to sacrifice scenery, flight models, etc. Anyone who says 30fps isn't enough hasn't experienced the smoothness of vsync/gsync.
  5. Seasons are also a big deal to me. Maybe this is somewhere Orbx can step up to stay relevant. Even just a tree replacement utility could work wonders. That, combined with a way to 'reshade' the countryside/farmland to more of a brown color during the winter months as appropriate could do wonders. I hope that green/snow aren't the only two seasons in the sim.
  6. I'm running Active Sky P3D, ASCA, REX Sky Force (for cloud models when not using EA), TrackIR, VPilot, Dynamic FFTF, ChasePlane.
  7. Works fine, it is an old scenery and as such, the runway textures especially are very low-res. Use the inibuilds dynamic lighting mod, as mentioned above.
  8. Could you send a link to where I might learn how to do this? With AM=245, which cores would I want my other programs to run on? I backed it down to 4.4 with less voltage. Peaked at 77c on a flight last night. Got a couple stutters in the gate area with Flightbeam KPDX + TE Oregon. Also, in my test scenario yesterday, I forgot to add that I accidentally left my Texture_Size_Exp=10 tweak in the config. And it still ran great! I'll chock that up to my 2080 TI though.
  9. Thank you cwburnett and Bert! I tried HT On/AM=245 and did a KDFW-KMCI-KDFW turn using FSDT KDFW, TropicalSim KMCI, MegaScenery Earth plus Nuvecta autogen in the MaddogX and my textures were sharp, even with LOD set on high. The only time I saw any blurries at all was on descent but they went away once I slowed down to 250 knots. Not a single stutter, except for the green text information bar (which is a known P3D bug) even with thunderstorms in the KDFW area+ActiveSky P3D. I was also using FFTF Dynamic to reduce the FFTF value from .33 to .01 when transitioning from 1000 AGL to ground level. I could hear my CPU fan switching into full gear at various times, which is something I hadn't noticed before. My 5 year-old i7 6700 is getting more of a workout, which brings me to the only downside: I registered an 87 degree reading on core 1 (2nd physical core) using RealTemp while I was flying around some weather in Oklahoma. My next highest reading was 80 degrees on core 3. I'm planning on getting a new system when FS2020 comes out, but still don't think I should be flying every day with those temps. I've got a Noctua DH-14 cooler, I'll have to get in there and try to clear out some dust. I don't remember temps ever going that high, even when running HT on before. I guess it is a 5 year-old chip.
  10. Check where Orbx has your temp files. In my case it was on my C drive which was almost full even though my Orbx main folder is on another drive. I got the error then changed the temp folder to the other drive then it worked.
  11. Thanks for the response. Are you saying I should block off the first two cores from hyperthreading, and use an affinity mask of 253, or to leave HT off with affinity mask=253? My first two cores are the ones that get the hottest so that might work if only cores 3 and 4 are hyperthreading.
  12. I did install FFTF Dynamic again last night and it helped, however I still got a few stutters in the gate area with GSX on the taxi-in. My performance in every regard besides texture loading has been vastly improved in V5. I've seen numerous posts about the texture loading issue so I do not think my system is the culprit, other than having an older CPU. I did try HT on a few weeks ago and it helped the texture loading somewhat, but the temp increase wasn't acceptable. I'd have to back off on my overclock to make it work which I think would negate the benefits. The only NCP setting I've changed is Prefer Maximum Performance. What would be the benefit of setting VSync/Triple Buffering in NCP if I also set it in the sim? Wouldn't that be redundant? I've tried setting .50 in FFTF Dynamic but I read somewhere that in V5 there is no benefit beyond .33 and I also saw no benefit when I tried it myself.
  13. I don't have FFTF dynamic installed for HF2 yet, but even that didn't give me the smoothness I would get with FPS unlimited when I used it before. There is no replacement for the smoothness I get with FPS set to unlimited, which is why I want a way for this to be set dynamically in the sim for when I'm on the ground.
  14. I've tried that but it doesn't solve my blurry textures issue. The only thing that solves it is limiting my FPS to 30 in-sim.
  15. Hi all, Here's my dilemma: In V4, I was able to run unlimited frames/Vsync on/30hz with crisp textures on my aging i7 6700k @4.6. In V5 in this same configuration, I have blurry/slow-loading textures. I've tried turning on HT, lowering settings, config tweaks, etc, but the result is the same. But if I limit the FPS in-sim to 30, textures load perfectly and I still have very smooth, constant 30fps while airborne, even with TrackIR. The problem is when I'm on the ground with GSX, SODE, other aircraft in the area, I'll get the stutters that I don't get with unlimited FPS. So my question is, would it be possible for something like Dynamic FFTF, except with the FPS limiter? With Dynamic FFTF, I can set an AGL value for the FFTF setting to transition. If I could do the same with the in-sim FPS target, I could have it be unlimited on the ground and up to 1000 AGL to get my smooth FPS on the ground, and then at 1000 AGL have it switch to 30 fps to focus on texture loading. Would this be possible? I would gladly pay for such an addon. Maybe the FTFF developer could add it as a feature to their already-useful program, if others are in the same boat as me and there is demand for such a product? Thanks, Ben
  16. The deselecting HS seems to have worked. 3 flights in a row without a crash on exit. Thank you! Also, if I may add a suggestion for the next update, it would be nice if there were an option to select the autobrake level the FO sets. Medium is usually more braking then I need; I usually change it to low if I have enough stopping margin. It's a bit cumbersome to have to change it while on short final after the FO does it in his flow. Just a suggestion. Thanks again!
  17. Wait, are you saying PMDG is already selling the NGXu (or whatever they call it for FS2020) for FS2020? Because that would be a load of BS. The only thing they have done is said that the $100 purchase price for the NGXu will go TOWARDS the FS2020 build. You will still have to pay the difference, when it's released.
  18. I've only had a CTD with the Maddog and I'm pretty sure it was because of the WX radar not playing nice with Activesky. No issues at all with the Majestic Q400. V5 with EA is a gamechanger. It's amazing how happy I was with V4 and how much it looks like word not allowed now that I've tasted V5. Never going back. If HF2 enhances EA to the point where the weather isn't global (which is the reason for the sudden cloud changes) then I'll be a happy camper. I'll be even happier if they fix the internal frame rate limiter.
  19. I gave hyperthreading a shot after having it turned off for 4+ years on my 6700k @ 4.6. Terrain loading is improved for me, but I got stutters on the ground at FSDT KORD V2 that I didn't get with hyperthreading off. Going back to hyperthreading off and turning down the autogen is the lesser of the two evils for me. I wish LM would fix the in-game FPS limiter because when I use that to limit to 30, the delayed terrain loading goes away, but I get stutters on the ground. Until then I will continue to rock 30 hz/unlimited/vsync.
  20. Hello, Ever since installing FS2Crew for the Maddog in V5, the sim hangs on exit (only with the Maddog) and I have to kill it in task manager. It wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that the Maddog saves the panel state/hours/cycles/failures upon exit so it never gets updated now. Appreciate someone looking at this. Thanks, Ben
  21. Thinking of skipping this one. Already have DD for the Seattle area and MegaScenery for the rest of the state. DD looks and performs great, was designed natively for P3D and not as a port-over from XP. And honestly I'm not overly impressed by the screenshots. DD's downtown Seattle looks better in my opinion. I might get TE when it's half off.
  22. Agreed, I turned off EA for the first time today and it looks so...V4. I'm not going back now. I'm confident LM and Hifi can sort through the issues.
  23. Just want to add my results after experimenting with different settings on V5. I am a member of the "30 hz/Vsync/unlimited" cult for years now, but after hearing that they fixed the internal FPS limiter, I tried limiting it to 30fps while still doing 30hz/vsync. On the surface, it works well and I did several flights with that setting in the Majestic Q400, but had stutters while on the ground/gate area with GSX, even though if I weren't to cap my frames I could get over 70fps in that aircraft. So then I went back to 30hz/Vsync/unlimited and it seemed to have solved the stutters problem, but I noticed more slow-loading textures when using MegaScenery Earth. So it appears to me that the internal limiter is still not completely fixed in V5. I also played around with the Vsync setting in Nvidia CP and here's that I found (2080TI, 4k resolution): Adaptive (half refresh rate) - I tried this setting while staying with my monitor (TV)'s native 60hz setting. If I use this while setting the sim's FPS limiter to 30fps, I get Vsync but screen tearing when I look around. But if I set the sim's FPS limiter to unlimited, it's exactly like the 30hz setting I used to do. There is still an input lag within the sim, but Vsync works perfectly (at 30fps) and I taxiied into the gate area at FSDT ORD V2/GSX/Maddog X with no stutters. I run the sim in windowed mode, so when I click outside on the desktop it goes seamlessly back to the native refresh rate of the monitor without input lag, and my sim FPS went up to 45. Bring the sim back into focus, and the 30fps kicks back in. I am going to roll with this setting from now on if my initial findings hold up. I am also contemplating purchasing FFTF dynamic, if it can help with my blurries and prevent me from going below 30fps if I am in a situation that might cause that (such as traffic on VATSIM, ground operations).
  24. In fairness though, credit where credit is due: after installing the PMDG 744 V5 update, I'm getting literally the same FPS in the PMDG 744 in the default scenario as I'm getting with the default F-35. I'm not sure if that speaks more to V5 or PMDG's optimization techniques, or both, but pretty impressive.
  25. Don't hold your breath on PMDG working with GSX. Here is a quote from RR on the PMDG forums 6 months ago in response to a customer complaining about the pitiful GSX integration: "GSX is not a PMDG product. We are not responsible, nor do we want to be responsible to integrate someone else's work into our own. I am not a GSX owner (for technical and security reasons I won't install anything that uses couatl on a PMDG owned machine) and I don't know the first thing about how it works. We have seen GSX work beautifully well with our many other products, and I suspect it is just a matter of time before enterprising GSX users create whatever integration files or config files or whatever else is necessary to make it work. You seem to insinuate that we have done something deliberate to negatively affect GSX users. This is not the case. We do nothing at all to inhibit your ability to use it so please do! In fact, we encourage users like you to support any developer who takes the time and energy to create something fun and useful. Our own ground services module is there for customers who do not wish to use GSX. I think it would be in very poor taste for us to disable or remove functionality simply because a user prefers an alternate choice. That really isn't how the sim community works. Since you are a GSX user, I'm not sure why it upsets you- but I suspect that isn't something I can help you solve." So it's pretty much "Well, you can't blame us because we aren't doing anything to purposefully prevent you from using GSX with our products." Why go through the effort of making your own subpar gate services program when you can spend less resources to just integrate with the best? Because PMDG needs to have their logo emblazoned on the catering trucks. I'd venture to guess that the vast majority of people who would spend $140 on a 747 would also have spent $30 on GSX. If you want an immersive experience from gate to gate, fly the FSL bus or Leonardo Maddog. If you want to drive your own pushback tug, fly PMDG lol.
