Agree 100%. Likewise, the purchase or lease price for a new 77W will be astronomical compared to a used 744...which means the utilization rate had better be very high for the 77W's fuel savings (compared to a 744) to matter. Even then it takes years.This is why older aircraft can be successful as freighters even after they are no longer competitive on passenger routes - getting them cheaper makes up for burning more fuel because they don't fly nearly as many hours per day/year.Airliner economics are pretty complicated...

If I recall correctly, to open the cargo doors you need to have APU2 or External Power 2 "available" but not actually selected. Try opening them with APU1 or External 1 powering the ship and APU2 running and "available".I'm almost positive it's in the manual but I'm not at that computer right now...

Lee, I suspect that you are right. I have installed Boeing Converted Freighter repaints into the Freighter aircraft folder for more realistic freighter loading config but had to alias to the passenger panel (and model obviously) for things to work properly. So the panel gauges are particular to the models being used.

May be afraid of being put in a hold over Linden until I-66 looks like a friendly landing site... For me, anything I can't pause is a no go. Maybe when I retire...

Good point. This is not limited to PMDG or to flight simulation in general. Most products have a life cycle, and the fact that an 8 year old software application (FS2004) is even being used anymore - and on such a large scale - is pretty surprising actually. Says a lot about how far M$ missed the mark initially with FSX.In any case Flight! will be here soon and the clock will begin to tick for FSX.

I used to be 2D when my older computer couldn't run the VC. Now I've got a newer rig that can handle the VC ,and a widescreen monitor that distorts the 2D...so I'm mostly VC now. What I like best about VC is better visibility over the nose in FSX.What I have done is set up a custom cameradefinition in the aircraft.cfg for a "modified virtual cockpit" view - where I've zoomed out a bit and panned down so that I'm looking at much of the VC as though it were a 2D panel. That way I can look around using the hat switch and then quickly click a button to snap back to a consistent panel view (of the VC though). Also disabled the momentum effects.The custom view is the best of both worlds for me...

Might not solve your problem, but check out this thread over in the PMDG forum http://forum.avsim.net/topic/330308-consistent-fatal-error/. Newer systems can be impacted by a problem with uiautomationcore.dll that causes crashes when switching windows - might be what's happening here?

Not sure Bruce...since I don't know exactly how you do your paints. FWIW I save mine as Bitmaps and then add the alpha channel bitmap with DXTBMP before flipping and saving as .dds DXT5.I could be totally wrong but that's where I would start looking :) PS - cool paint btw.

Bruce;Looks like you neglected to include the alpha channel for the fuselage texture? It's mostly black with a white glow where the landing lights bounce off the fuslage...

This is true. What I can't remember is whether or not I uploaded the .dll in a .zip or not, and unfortunately I can't access Mediafire right now.If so, it would have been the plain old Windows zip file that you should be able to open with Windows. Good Morning Ed;I just put it in the main Microsoft Flight Simulator X folder.On a side note, it is interesting how this error cropped up. I was running a computer with Vista 64 maybe a year ago and noticed that it did its normal "windows update" thing. Next FSX session I started getting the crash when I changed windows. So something changed in their OS to cause this.Good luck Ed, please let us know if it doesn't work for you (not that there is anything else I can think of...)

David;The "tweaks" we're talking about are modifications to the file called FSX.cfg that is buried in your system ("application data/FSX" folder I think). What you do is submit your current FSX.cfg and some details about your system (CPU, video card, memory etc.) and the Bojote's website creates a new FSX.cfg that you can download and try on your system.Unless your computer store guy is a Flightsim nerd (like us LOL) he might not be able to help much since there is probably nothing inherently wrong with your system...FSX just needs to be configured to run on it, and that is what Bojote does.That's about the end of my knowledge on this...good luck!

+1 on Brian's suggestion to run the Bojote tweaker. I am using the FSX.cfg file that his site created for me and my performance has been spectacular ever since.Among other things it adds a line called HIGHMEMFIX=1 (where in the config exactly I forget) that is supposed to address major problems.
