  1. Use ALT+ENTER to put the sim into windowed mode. It will re enable the curser, and you'll be able to fill out the fields to sign in. Cheers. EDIT: I know this works for MSFS 2020- Not sure about 2024.
  2. Really? Is that what cache is and does? Wow! I didn't know that! Grass, rocks, trees and bushes are AUTOGEN! They are layered onto the map and digital elevation model. That is the ONLY thing that separates the two sims. Their placement is arbitrary, and very flawed at that. Pretty soon people are going to start believing that if they mow their lawns they will be able to tell by how short the autogen grass is in the sim if they fly over their own house. The Map is the exact same map streamed into BOTH sims. ASOBO confirmed this. Photogrammetry is exactly the same as it was in the older sim as well. Do you really think that Asobo has actually mapped out every tree rock and bush at it's exact location in the real world? Ok then, there is nothing left to discuss. Carry on, and enjoy that digital twin. MSFS 2024 is no more a digital twin of the planet, than any other map provider out there, be it Google maps Apple maps Bing Maps or anything else with photogrammetry or 3D assets or objects.
  3. First of all I didn't suggest anything, nor attempted to discredit or spread false info or profess to be an expert. I merely stated what I believe, based on my own experiences as an IT professional. I have no cache at all. It is completely empty, I also get fast loading times on MSFS2024, without any cache whatsoever. Map enhancement clears it upon the start-up of the app. And yes it still loads faster than 2020 from my local dedicated NVME. Can you explain this? 2024 starts quicker because, during actual play, everything streams in real-time AFTER the sim has started, and this stream does not need to be that fast. It is only loading the basic thin client upon start up. The sim does not load the chosen AC, location or terminal, because it has no idea after it has loaded where you want to go, or which aircraft you want to fly. MSFS 2020 loads an entire sim at start up because it has to load and process everything in your community folder as well as it's assets beforehand. MSFS 2024 does not work that way. Thin client. In both sims once you choose your location, aircraft, the loading times are roughly the same. To reiterate I said "I believe". I never said I knew. But if anyone here does NOT actually have factual info, they can kindly refrain from acting as experts. Find me factual info that details what exactly is saved in the cache for MSFS 2020 vs MSFS2024 and if the data is not the same, I will tip my hat. If default aircraft are being cached locally, then why not just have them downloaded in the official folder structure to begin with? What's the point? Ah, you say, well it's because aircraft are streamed in. Apparently NOT if they are locally cached on your drive. Which again begs the same question. What's the point? As far as "Digital Twin" The latest buzzword from a handful gaming sites, how is MSFS 2020 NOT a digital twin? Does it NOT stream the exact same map data? In fact, it DOES and Asobo has confirmed this. So in 2024 they are rendering more trees have added rocks bushes and thicker grassy knolls/fields. These are autogen objects people, and are AI generated approximations of every tree rock, bush grass on earth apparently. And they even got this wrong. Not-to -mention rocks, bushes, grass and daisies just pop out of existence as soon as you are 100 feet over them. The only way to admire these assets is to walk around. Well then I guess it becomes a ground hiking and walking simulator, and totally useless as visible assets in the air. I have seen trees in Europe and in North America where they are not even supposed to exist. The only true "digital twin" factors, are the bare maps themselves, along with PG. That's it and both sims excel at this. And so does Google Earth for that matter-no sim required.
  4. In MSFS 2020 I turned off the rolling cache about three years ago. Never had an issue. Even with default Bing maps. At least in the older sim. For msfs 2024 I've set it to 100Gb, but since I'm an avid user of Map enhancement, it gets deleted by the aforementioned app during every startup. It has to do this due to the fact that it (rolling cache) cannot be turned off in MSFS 2024. The app's creator implemented this, in order not to get Default Bing map tiles mixed in with whatever other map that one may streaming from the app. In either case I do clear the app's own cache from time to time, just to ensure fresh tiles so-to-speak. At least in the older sim, regardless if I use Map enhancement or not, I never have to worry about mixed map tiles, as the sim's cache is turned off. Having no way to turn off the cache in msfs2024 is just another inconvenience on MSobo's part. I see no good reason to not have an option to do so, other than throw a small wrench in the usage of third party maps- which incidentally, the creator of Map Enhancement has found a way to overcome. 😛
  5. I don't believe the cache stores AC data or other sim objects & assets. Just topographical map data and photogrammetry. If you use the Map enhancement mod, it clears the official MSFS 2024 cache upon start-up.
  6. Very nice find indeed. In 2020, even with frame gen on, you can still change the monitor refresh rate. In 2024 it is greyed out and inaccessible. But the setting remains as to what it was set to last, and has an effect, as you have demonstrated here. If I'm not mistaken, in 2024 with frame gen on, V-sync also becomes inaccessible. These have to be oversights I think. But, yes- good find!
  7. An NVME drive is substantially faster than an SSD. On average to the order of about 6 times SSD transfer speeds. This also depends on the quality and branding of the aforementioned devices. However an SSD is also substantially faster than the average network connection to your ISP. Even faster than a gigabit connection. If your network can keep up with the streaming demands of MSFS 2024, then your SSD should have no problem. So the short answer is, you are fine. You may see faster loading times with app and games that rely on local storage with NVME, however since this sim relies heavily on streaming it's assets from the Azure cloud, this makes no difference.
  8. Had this been my review, I would have been less forgiving, and that's saying a lot, as this is definitely not a love letter per se. He is spot on for most of this review.
  9. Look for the "Air Traffic" setting under graphics. ( makes no sense, I know) I believe there are four presets "Low, Medium, High and Ultra. Yes, we've lost the percentage slider. So think of the above as 25, 50, 75, 100 % would be my guess. The stupid thing is, this very setting also controls the quality of the models, as well as the draw distance. I wonder which programmers at Asobo thought that this would be a good idea-honestly. Equally mind boggling, the "Traffic Airport Quality" This is what you would have to use to cull the static aircraft, but as a consequence also culls other airport vehicles and terminal objects at the same time.
  10. And that is a valid opinion, I don't think the term "gamey" should be taken as an insult. Absolutely no need to take it personally? But I digress. Cheers.
  11. Without prejudice, and all due respect to everyone here, I think people arguing about this is pointless. This feature should be optional in the game plain and simple. Just another oversight on MS/Asobo's part. Or they may even had plans to implement it as optional, but was simply pushed to the wayside in favor of not missing the deadline, just like they did for so many other glaring issues with the sim. I won't go over those, they've been published in various forums and social media platforms ad nauseam. We all know what these are, and MS knew all along what it is they were releasing. The bottom line here is, many of us paid a lot of money for this sim. I myself prepaid for the Aviator's Edition. And MS true to their reputation, basically urinated all over us again. When you enter a transaction with a company as large as MS, you expect them to deliver a finished product, just as they expect you to pay them good money right away. If you're going to make me a paying beta tester without my knowledge- sorry not interested at those prices. I may pay eg $30 for a beta, incomplete or broken product with intent to purchase the final release version, when it IS indeed a release version, if I am satisfied that it ticks all the boxes that I expect in the a flight simulator. For all you folks out there who are enjoying the sim, and are willing to compromise, and perhaps overlook most of the issues, you should speak up, Don't come to the forums and make excuses for them, Don't give them a pass, because companies like MS will continue with this behavior. After all they took your hard-earned money. On the flipside, if you are truly happy with the sim, all the power to you, by all means enjoy, but please refrain from berating folks in the forums for expressing their grievances with the sim. They have a right to voice their frustrations. No, I did not go for the refund, but that is my prerogative, and frankly I willing to wait- even out of curiosity to see how this sim plays out. But I will not make excuses for them, and be very vocal about my grievances. They do read these forums. And this this is the last time I ever plunk down good money to MS either by prepay, or even on launch day. You'd think after 20 years, I would have learned my lesson. Thankfully, I don't delete any of my older sims- call me a digital sim hoarder. And I can still enjoy my hobby until this... whatever you'd like to call it reaches a better finished state. Cheers.
  12. Hi. Theoretically by dropping the FSLTL folder into the MSFS 2024 community folder, should replace the default models. But it does not seem to work that way. In my estimation, about 50% of the aircraft are still default Asobo. My traffic settings in the sim are on ultra, or whatever the highest setting is.
  13. I have a theory/ suspicion if-you-will. And if I'm proven to be wrong, that's great. But follow me if you will, and test for yourselves, if the curiosity get the best of you. So, I know (me included) how annoying it has been with how the textures have been loading into the sim. To get even close to the 150 TLOD of MSFS2024, You have to crank it to past 300 for MSFS 2024 it seems. Of course this tanks performance like no one's business. Let's assume it is the MSFS servers just for a moment. That would mean that if we use a third party map provider (Map enhancement) then in theory this should not be an issue. After all the map data is no longer streaming in from the official servers, but the "other map provider". However, for me at least this does not seem to be the case. I strongly believe it is the client itself that decides the rate of the map tile streaming into the sim, as well at what resolution and clarity, depending where you've set your TLOD. This happens regardless of which maps I've used. My TLOD on 2020 is set at 150, and honestly it is near flawless with any map provider. Flying IFR with an airliner in MS2020 is pure eye candy-detailed and sharp. I cannot say the same for 2024-even at max TLOD, and if this is to be a thing, it is really immersion breaking- to me at least. Another thing to ponder. Would it even make sense if both sims were not streaming map data from the same official Bing servers? That would be an awful waste of resources and data, on MS's part I think. This reinforces the theory even further. I'm not sure about the rest of the title's assets, but maps must be common for both sims. You start a session in MSFS 2020. You execute a flight, and maps are just fine. You then shut down 2020, and start a session in 2024, and its low res terrain textures blending in and out before your eyes. That has to be the sim client, and not the map servers IMHO. Cheers.
  14. I guess my eyes are reading faster than my brain 🙂
  15. Also this. Your CPU is over five years old at this point. The Graphics card is fine.
  16. There's your main problem right there. Why would you be running anything other than 4k, on a 4k monitor?
  17. It will do no such thing. The 20 and 30 series cards are in fact RTX cards, and are physically capable of frame gen. In this case "officially supported" is Nvidia's way of saying we want your money, so buy a 40 series card. Greed plain and simple. I have been using it since the mod was released. No issues whatsoever. Besides, your card has hardware built-in fail safes if that is your concern. This mod simply circumvents the driver from denying your earlier 20 or 30 series cards for using frame gen. To take it even further, this mod derives from the official AMD FSR3 released method of frame gen which is available to ALL graphics cards, as released by AMD. And is open source by AMD. See here: https://github.com/GPUOpen-LibrariesAndSDKs/FidelityFX-SDK/releases/ It officially supports ALL cards. What THIS mod does in MSFS, is trick the nvidia driver to 1) ignore the check to see if the card is a 40 series card 2) Trick the driver to enable the use of Nvidia frame gen in any game that officially supports Nvidia frame gen. Let me put it another way, And this is on MS and Asobo. Had MS and asobo officially implemented AMD FSR 3 frame gen in the sims, then this mod would not be needed. ANY and ALL cards would be frame gen capable in the sim OFFICIALLY. EDIT: That being said, any cards earlier than -say a 1080ti or Titan X pascal or XP, are going to struggle, as they don't have the "horsepower" so to speak. I hope this sheds some light.
  18. I am aware now, as I found this setting. However, It is not possible to remove static or parked aircraft, without also removing other objects or assets.
  19. Thankfully, you can revert to 2020 key bindings for the keyboard. There is a setting for it. Click on "keyboard" in the control settings, at the bottom there is a bar with left/right arrow. Select" MSFS 2020 Transversal". You'll get the "B" for the altimeter as well as everything else.
  20. No sooner did I say it, someone on flightsim.to has a mod to rectify this. See here: https://flightsim.to/file/85165/ai-pilot-for-msfs-2024
  21. You beat me to it! My sentiments exactly.
