  1. First off, congrats to PMDG for a great product. I have only done two complete flights to far. MIA-LAX and LAX-AKL but both have been great. Love the airplane and once again PMDG has made the best addon I have ever seen. I do have some questions though. I was happy to not have any issues on a 13 hour real time flight on LAX-AKL. FPS was good for my system so far too. That being said I feel like my PC got a bit warmer than usual which is expected. If I wanted to shut down for an hour and save the flight all I have to do is go to the FSX save flight and the 777 will automatically save my panel state under the same name? As a general question about my PC being warm, being that the 777 is probably the most intense software my computer runs with FSX I have a liquid cooled system. First I have not had any maintenance on it. Anyone suggest I get the cooling system checked out? Refilled? Second for long haul flights I prefer real-time even if I am not at my pc the whole time. Would setting the airplane in the "2d" cockpit view with no instruments make it easier on the PC? Or is that just a silly idea? Those are the only questions I have. Next up is to learn the autoland procedure. Love the autocrusie system for the long hauls, only suggestion is maybe implement the system to also turn off the fuel tanks when they get empty. Great plane. Great product, and hop to be getting many more flights out of the 777.
  2. Well I have the demo and WOW is all I can say. First took the NGX on LAX-SLC-LAX. LAX had a marine layer, the weather ATIS and Flight Briefing are pure awesome. Though two of the voices are difficult to understand/hear. But Landed in SLC with low visibility as it was the morning. Took off about 45mins later and the sun burned a lot of the fog away. It was just awesome. I have a 3 year old i7 system so I take it easy. Only 5 cloud layers 70-80 mile cloud draw and visibility. Had zero performance hits from what I could tell. Landings in LAX are usually FPS heavy for me and it was the same, no big issues at all with ASN or without. I then took my 777 on its first long haul. LAX-AKL. Well it was great. Listening to the weather change on the radios was great. Exctied to finally have real weather in the sim will be making the final purchase soon! Great idea having a full demo out there. Without it, not sure I would make this purchase.
  3. This all sounds great. Perfect timing for me too. Hoping for good results when I download the demo this weekend. After downloading the 777 of course Almost time to fly. Just need to finish this miserable paper on Antitrust Laws.
  4. Did not know there was a demo. Will certainly try it out with 777 and NGX and see how it goes. Hoping for the best. Would be GREAT to have some good weather simulation finally in my FSX.
  5. I have been "stuck" with default weather forever. Does this add in updated real weather to FS? How is it on the frames? My PC is decent but its no super machine. Can I get the updated weather without using Frame Rate killing weather textures? I have been thinking about getting real weather soon for a while now just don't know which program to get.
  6. You can probably get something very decent in the $1500 range. My PC is already 3 years old but it runs FSX pretty well, no major problems running the NGX, don't have the 777 yet. My PC cost me $1400 built and shipped in 2010. So if you don't want top of the line something like mine with three year old technology would probably be closer to $1,000. I would not go that route though. Spend the extra money and get something good. I would say $1500-$1600 can get nice machine already built. If you know how to build the PC yourself you can save more.
  7. Still have not picked her up from Seattle yet  Will go up there and take her home to MIA once I am done with these papers for school.
  8. I am going to guess and say it wont run very well if at all. But I am no computer expert. My question to you is what do you usually fly on FSX with that computer?
  9. I rarely use time acceleration. Now I don't have the 777 yet but will be getting it in about two weeks time. I have flown plenty of long hauls though. Most long hauls for me have to be red-eyes though if I don't want to use acceleration which for a long haul I never have used. To only time I use acceleration is when I am in a middle of a flight and need to go somewhere when I was not planning on going anywhere. I usually only plan to fly flights I know will fit the schedule for that day. The overnight ones work best especially when flying ultra long hauls. 12+ hour flights are hard to fit in without the overnight sleep aspect. I have no problem doing MIA-MAD where I take off at 5pm local time and land at 1:30am local time. With the 777 I am certainly planning on doing long hauls, but I also don't mind some shorter flights that need the extra seats like MIA-LAX MIA-JFK, NRT-HKG. For a 12+ over night I will sleep for 7-8 hours and usually plan to be "in the cockpit" for the first 2 hours and last 2 hours. For flights that I plan on being awake the whole flight anything over 3 hours is too much to sit there the whole time. I will do whatever needs to be done, watch tv, go outside, get lunch or dinner, take a swim. Whatever.. Hopefully everything goes alright!
  10. Thanks for the replies. I figured I was over worrying. I will be making the purchase fairly soon.
  11. I am a little behind with this P3D thing. From what I think I know isn't it pretty expensive? And you need to buy a yearly license or something? Also from what I think I know most add ons and scenery don't work for it including AI Traffic add ons. But I also think P3D uses are newer machines better which gives us better graphics but with lower hits on performance? I would love to see a new platform take advantage of our newer machines. But I want that platform to be like FSX as an entertainment license. If PMDG, scenery developers and an AI Traffic developer go to P3D I can see a major shift. Clearly PMDG intends too. But it might take more than 5 years to see FSX go "bye bye" but I certainly see it and hope it does in 10 years.
  12. My NGX does run fine from the VC. At cruise and at most airports where AI is not too much. I do 100% of my taxi, takeoffs and landings in the VC. Good to hear.
  13. DOUBLE POST. Site error. See: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/427124-should-i-buy-the-pmdg-777/ Thank You,
  14. I have never doubted a PMDG airplane before and I don't doubt that this is an awesome plane to have in the FSX hanger. However, my system is not the newest. It is not bad at all but with some of the things I have been reading I am just wondering what some of you guys think. Currently I run the NGX, 747X and MD-11 well. I rarely have crashes, and I attribute the majority of them to going in and out of the menu and other add ons like FS2CREW. I fly Long Haul plenty with the 744 and MD-11 and might have a "failed" flight one out of 20 flights. I am very happy with my performance with the NGX too. I usually run a decent amount of AI traffic with UT2. As for scenery besides for some major airports most are default, and I still run default weather. Something I want to change but not sure how the computer would handle it. Anyway I know many performance problems are user based but from someone who runs the NGX fine and does 5-6 hour flights on the NGX and someone who does MD-11 and 744x flights of over 10 hours should I be worrying about getting the 777? My PC Specs: i7 930 at 2.8ghz (not OC, will probably start another thread to ask how easy it is to do) 6gb of DDR3 ATI Radeon 5870 Liquid Cooled Windows 7 64bit Am I over worrying? Or is the 777 maybe too much for my system purchased in June 2010? Thanks for the comments.

    Price ?

When I had FS PAX in FS9 and told my GF I had to go feed the passengers she seemed a little concerned. Don't use FS9 anymore. Anyway hobbies are good, everyone needs them ours just happens to be a computer program. Well part of my aviation "obsession" as she would call it. Been with her for over 4 years now and she still hasn't watched an actual flight! Need to do a quick one with the NGX. As for the price even if its $100 the 777X would cost less than one weekend or one nice dinner with my GF. And that is just 1 weekend, the 777 will give me much more entertainment in the next year for $100 then one weekend with my GF would .
  16. Just like your last big release it occurs right after I start up school again. This will be my last year of grad school question is do I wait until my one final is over in December and probably get a service pack or two. Or just get it because I really really want it!!!!!! Either way excited for the release! Great work. Hope the next week goes well! Already have my first routes thought out which means I will probably wait. MIA-LAX-SYD-HKG-DXB. Planning on using DXB plenty, will have to get a new scenery for DXB.
  17. Knew I would purchase it once they announced it was a plane coming up. Will say I had my doubts with no 2D because I am a fan of having some 2D panels but after flying the Majestic Dash-8 around a decent amount this summer I'm starting to become ok with only VC. Can't wait for the 777 already have my first three flights planned. MIA-LAX-SYD-HKG. I'm sure do hope it's out before mid Decemebr. This is my last year of grad school which means my last time I will have a chance to fly on weekdays for a few weeks in a row. Once I start life in the real world it will likely be held to weekend mornings and a few holidays here and there. Would love to finish off with a bang with the 777LR.
  18. Not short but certainly not long haul AA does MIA-LAX in the 772.
  19. The RFP 747-200 is freeware now. Without a doubt the most complete older generation jet out there for FSX. It is the sole reason I still find myself in FS9 some days. It is great. The project Fokker 100 and 28 were pretty good too. If you fly in the Bahamas or Florida there is a package for those areas. I completely forgot what it's called though. It's a great package though. I'm sure if you search avsim for Florida scenery it will be right up there.
  20. Same here. Lately when I actually have time for long hauls I have been trying to time them so that I arrive late at night and I would have taken off in the late afternoon. This usually only works fro North America-Europe/Africa flights. Depart at 4pm my time (real time) arrive in Europe in the early morning (FSX time) late at night my time when I am ready to get to bed. My long hauls only occur when I am on break from school so I usually wont get to bed till 1-2am anyway. And Europe-North America I will try to find time in the day to do it. However sometimes the flights are just too long and the overnight meathod is something I will do also. I will take off as late as possible though to time the arrival about 1.5 hours after I plan on waking up. I think about 1 out 5 of these sleep through flights sometime goes wrong either with the computer, the power shuts off for a second in the house, the plane messes up or I just forget to wake up and miss my destination! But there really is something cool and satifying about taking off somewhere in FSX and landing in a far away place 8-14 hours later. In real life my longest flight was SYD-LAX. Man that was long, but I have always enjoyed long haul flights. Give me a choice of a bunch of movies, some food and drinks and I am happy especially if I am in biz or first class. In FSX my longest was MIA-BOM it was something like 17hours that took off in the morning and landed late at night! As for boring ones I guess trans atlantic ones sometimes are not that great. I want to say LAX-SYD/AKL is the worst but I rarely have the time to do those so I always enjoy them a lot. For good ones: For a flight like HKG-DXB/TLV I try to plan my flights near Mt. Everest that always makes them fun. Also MIA-South America have some cool things to see. Flying over the Islands than the dark amazon near the coast of Brazil etc.. I got the MD-11 recently and have not done a long haul on it yet. I am planning on doing one in about two weeks. Need to make sure I figure out how to set it up to do that because that is the worst thing about sleeping through long hauls. Miss the step climbs.
  21. That was pretty cool. Just spend some time looking at a bunch of sites. Thanks for sharing.
  22. I have the NGX and purchased the MD-11 after flying the NGX for almost a year. I also have the PMDG 744 but I wanted something different for long hauls. The MD-11 is a bit newer and you can tell it is better than the 744. Graphics wise the NGX is much better but the MD-11 is really fun and so different. Unlike any other plane out there with the automated systems. It is a joy to fly and its nice flying something a bit different on long hauls. Also it being a popular cargo planes makes flights to just about anywhere at any distance fairly realisitc. Whether it is MIA-PAP or LHR-DXB its a fun plane to fly. I also reccoemend it even after flying mostly the NGX. It is just a different type of plane. The 2D panels are great and the VC is a 7 out of 10 when the NGX is 10 out of 10.
  23. Well I made the purchase. I was very surprised to find such litle feedback and reviews on the product besides for one 30second youtube video. I won't really be able to use it for another three weeks or so but once I get to and do a few flights with it I will go ahead and post a short review in case anyone else is ever interested. "Cyber Monday" got me. But it is a holiday present for me. The product has been in my sights since it came out, the $180 savings was just too good not to pull the trigger.
  24. NRT-HKG is a favorite of mine have flown a 742, 744 and 737-700 on the route. Will be a great day when I get to take a PMDG 777 on the route too. I don't even have payware HKG but even the default there is something about landing and departing HKG that feels very real. I am not sure what it is but it may be my favorite airport in FSX to fly to. I should look into getting a payware HKG it will be even better. Need to get over there in real life too!
  25. Go Flight has a nice sale going on. I am thinking about/close to buying the 737 Throttle. It is over $100 off. Sale ends Monday Night I think.
